BT is so heavily filtered for language and moderated with an iron hand?

Look no further than page 5 of the now locked thread.
I was trying to post exactly that But failed to get in before the lock.

On some tech forums I frequent, that sort of behavior would be good for a time out.
If this were in a pub, there would surely be a brawl.

Is it any wonder the principal players lurk only and shun anything resembling Internet "friendly"?
I would be interested in SHANIA's take on why the internet seems to exacerbate these tendancies in people. The "Tyrant of the Terminal", so to speak.
It seems to me to be similar to the tendancy to Road Rage. In that the line between normal disgruntlement and extreme rage narrows so dramatically the more isolated and less likely to actually meet in real life one is.

RockinDeano, I'm sure you're a real Friendly, HAPPY- go- Lucky type of bombastic blowhard in real life. ( I mean that in the nicest possible way, really, I do. :) )
It just comes across as so vile when it's simply read as type. There's no body language, gesticulations and timbre to help soften the sheer vulgarity of whatever it is you're trying to say.

It's no wonder the Perry Heads rat pack as hellishly as they do.

As for Andrew, dude, I feel for you. I wouldn't want this job for anything.
There is not enough boat fuel or places to fish on the planet to entice me to regulate this lot.

Good luck

While Andrew's fortune (or lack of it) with this board is for him to decide, I believe you overestimate my regard for the lure of "Easy Money". I've had the pleasure of dealing with this lot in another life and you can keep it.
My grass is green enough, thank you all the same.

I would rather have to herd and shear cats than to ever moderate another Journey Forum .

Hi Alien…You want my take on Internet behavior?Hm...
Last time I posted an analysis about this issue I was mercilessly attacked and told to take my psychology babble somewhere else.
I guess truth is hard to handle…

Anyway, for me,message boards and their residents are fascinating subjects.I've witnessed so many things online…
Maybe because psychology is an exam I have never flunked, I'm able to read between the lines pretty easily and I do have an idea about how Internet behavior works most of the times.

While I believe that Internet is not real life,I also believe that real life issues have a major say on how we act online.
Everyone knows that people say and do things in cyberspace that they wouldn't do or say in the real world.
The virtual space has an immediate effect on people,as in making them losen up and express themselves more openly.
Some of these people really believe that their Net behavior cannot be linked to their real life…Yea,right.

Regarding hostile behavior,I have noticed that people feel they don't have to take responsibility for their actions, and more, they want to convince others that "hey,I am not like this in real life!"... Once they turn off the computer and return to their daily routine, they believe they can leave that game and their online-identity behind.
Why should they be held responsible for what happens in that make-believe agressive play world that has nothing to do with reality?
But as I said,it has to do a lot with reality.

Online aggressiveness is usually used to draw attention, have an impact on other people and wield some kind of power.
This has a correspondence in real life…If your communication style tends to be reactive or angry, you may be even more reactive or angry online.
Compulsive people are drawn to computers because it gives them control over their relationships and surroundings.
They also may need to be in opposition to others as a way to boost up their somewhat fragile identity or to enhance self-esteem by proving themselves right and others mistaken.
Online aggressors are trying to express some unsettled feature of their troubled identity in a desperate attempt to have it acknowledged.
Unfortunately, they do it in a way that abuses other people.
After practicing this long enough, they start feeling more authentic in these online relationships, and this becomes a viable lifestyle alternative.
One of the golden rules is to ignore these people...
Because foul talkers are looking to shock and provoke others, giving them NO reaction at all might be enough to put out their unpleasant conduct.

Another type of poster who may not intentionally be causing difficulties, but is difficult to deal with, is the "depressive" poster.
Technically, these people may not all be suffering from a clinical depression, they seem however unhappy people who attempt to use message boards as a form of therapy or escape.

Anyway, in face-to-face contacts, people may be intimidated to say something to someone because of their job, authority or gender.
Because all these things are not visible online, people feel freer to say whatever they want to anyone.

Oh well…people are complex animals and the Internet makes them even more complicated.

I remember an old Kung Fu movie where one of the masters at the Buddhist temple describes how to deal with an attacker...
Something like, "avoid rather than divert; divert rather than restrain; restrain rather than injure; injure rather than kill." 8)

Sorry if I bored you all.

And then there are those with a reverse false pretense. They're really knuckle-dragging neanderthals that would rather rip your face off than talk to you. But out here in the quasi-public world, they'd rather be civil and sound semi-intelligent.

Funny how that old adage - "What a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive." - still holds true today...virtually from all angles. And try making 'internet forum' synonymous with 'web'.

Actually, deception and reality are quite synonymous if everyday real life. Ahh, the anonymity of the internet...like road rage, personalities still hide within their vehicles...add excessive chems and people really think they're superman.

Gawd, I love psych101! Could go on forever.

Interesting analysis Shania. I find psychology fascinating......trying to figure out what makes some people tick.

I, for one though......am exactly the same person on or off the boards. Journey/Perry friends that I have met can attest to that. I am honest, caring, funny and a complete horndog in real life too. Anything I have ever said on the boards I would say to the person's face and have. :D

Me too. A little more shy at first sometimes, but once I get going I'm just the only me that I know.

I think I've analyzed my own attraction to messageboard involvement and come up with the answer. I quit working outside my home in 1993. My job afforded me a lot of interaction with people with whom I had a common interest. I did some travelling to all the corporation's subsidiary plants and also for various seminars and other company functions. Talking and exchanging opinions and ideas was part of my job. Now, living in a rural area that's an hour away from even a small to medium size city, the only convenient activities are church and Ruritan club oriented and they're just not my thing.

When I came on the internet in search of information about my favorite singer and band I found a lot of great people with whom to interact on a common interest, Journey.

So here I am and you guys just have to put up with me. :P

A real winner there Allen.

Gee, let's post a thread about Neals' divorce! Yes folks, this scumbag used to work for Journey, now is out on his ass, and has resorted to posting about Neals' personal life, on the other site of course. Can Neal take it? Sure he can? Is it in good etiquette to talk about a personal divorce? What do you think?

You have a lot of nerve asshole, calling TNC and myself liars. We never have lied and you...what's your excuse? Resorting to smacking Neal's personal life. What a loser. I would love to kick your ass.

Here's where Liar = YOU, Jackass.

These have been attributed to you....
You only have a year to live..... Because you've got Cancer
you work for the White House or was it White Castle???
OH that wasn't you??? Which story is it?????
Calls from the tour bus thanking you for breaking the Tape-Gate News.... Yeah, that's a good one..... Like Manglement wants that call going out....

JSS says you're not that good of a friend and just one of the many people he shakes hands with.

Dude, it's ok, I've seen male groupies like you for years.
Clinical studies have shown that guys with exaggerated homophobic behaviors have a high latent homosexual arousal quotient.

I didn't start that divorce thread, Cock-in-Deano. I made one post in an existing thread.

My comment was that divorce is bad for all the kids involved, past, present and future. Hardly the kind of thread crapping you're famous for.

Further, I don't need to smack Neal's life, he's got that covered. I'm done paying off bouncers, strippers, bartenders and other denizens of the dark for the misbehaviors of that drunken guitar hero of yours.
I've poured that guy into his room more than once, and guess I'm not the only one who is tired of seeing that behavior in a 55 year old father of five.

My TWENTY YEARS OF SERVICE to that company and those guys give me a perspective you'll never match, no matter how much you grovel to "party" with them or how many times you wash JSS's jock..

You would love to kick my ass? Better do it before you start drinking.

From the pictures I've seen of you, you've made that offer before and lost.

You're a living joke, making cyber threats that have real world consequences.
You may know my name, but I know your face. It's not like you'll be sneaking up on anyone, as big an obnoxious loud-mouthed blowhard you been described as being in real life.

No, FuckingLameO, I'm the antithesis of loser, especially as it pertains to these guys.

BITTER? HAH!, I'm BETTER because of it !!!!!

I lived a dream that many had, but only a few attained. I have the Credits, The Gold and Platinum Records and the t-shirts to prove it.
Oh, and the property, the boat, the Harley and the lifestyle, too.

You see, I started at the bottom, worked my way up the ladder with hard work and good ideas, through the management changes, interacted creatively (song credits, producing, arranging), commercially (Nocturne Lighting device fabrication for U2, Michael Jackson etc), and socially ( kids births, marriages, divorces, Milestone Birthdays), through the glory years. These are events that are not likely to be repeated the the extent they were 25 years ago. No bitterness there....

I've built their studios. Then built a few more for other musos and producers.
I've engineered recording sessions with musicians whose songs I used to do air guitar to when I was 14. Can't be bitter about that.......

I presented my father with a Platinum JOURNEY record (GH , of course) with my name on it.
I have a MULTI PLATINUM disc set for NEW Journey material also with my name on it.
That's not likely to happen unless lightening strikes JSS into some new, hard ass material, that belies Journey's sappy image.

I bought a condo in the best area to live in the world, Yes, I had the Golden Gate Bridge view, thanks guys.
No, I mean all you fans who paid these guys so much that they had enough to spread my way... I really mean THANKS !!!

I Sold it, made a gazillion dollars, moved back East, and rebuilt my Grandmother and Brother's houses. I own property in two states as well as a little spread in Northern California. Got a little still out in the woods, just like my great grandfather did....
Where I spend my time watching my retirement fund grow as lush and organically as my garden. ;)

Bitter? Ya, I'm soooooo bitter.

Anyone else feel like vomiting after reading that mess? And he calls Deano a blowhard!

You're fighting a losing battle, dude. Many of us have seen firsthand and benefitted from Deano's ties and his generosity. He has done more for this forum, the people who post in it, and for the band themselves than anyone else who posts here. Just because you feel threatened enough by him to have to post things to try to puff yourself up doesn't mean we have to give a shit.

He prefaces his argument with his autobiography to mask some insecurity Deano has dug up in hopes of validating his insults. Yup, sounds like a blowhard to me.

At first I thought it was sad and pathetic. Now I think it's pretty funny.

The arrogance stems from you, thinking I care what you say or think. You are simply a rat-packing hanger- on without any initiative or originality of your own.
Your actions here prove the notion that this is not a friendly forum and that outsiders or those not deemed "desirable' are disregarded.

Who are you anyway? One of those fans who made me wealthy? Then Thanks for the money, chump.

Btw, Nice picture of your mother.

Just let the BS slide off ya. They are trickling over just trying to wear this forum down now that it is going stronger than ever. Not even worth 30 seconds of your time. Hmmm where did I hear this advice before NIG  . Let's just keep this the great community it is!

1) You DO care or you wouldn't have responded to me.
2) I didn't make you wealthy. You did that yourself. Don't spin it differently. Have some pride and at least take credit for what you've done.
3) The mother comment made my day. It exposes you as a bitter and defeated man who chooses to conduct himself in the most juvenile of ways.
