I don't see that at all.....

Posters like StrangeGrey and others are piling atop of Deano and calling him a liar simply because he can't prove the 2001 dvd was re-done in a studio or that SA's vocal assistance stems as far back as 2002.
Well, what these vindicative little shits fail to grasp is, defending his credibility is as easy as throwing up a saved email or two from certain people in the know.
But, why would Deano burn ties with his prized Journey contacts to appease a bunch of hyper-critical Augeri zealots?
The odds are stacked against him even if he does prove his claims beyond a shadow of doubt

Everyone over there is green with envy that Deano does posses sensitive information, while they are all blind, deaf, and naked haggling over crumbs.

Your handle says it all. Glad that you could make an informed decision and choose that handle all the way back in June of 2006. Well at least I can't say that you make impulsive decisions. The fact that your "verdict" was in way back then tells me all I need to know.

OK....fair enough. Then please explain your handle "nolippin" as I may have misinterpreted it.

tour scheds

Postby Arkansas » Thu Jan 18, 2007 3:23 am

Just a couple of missing dates that I know of...I was there for both.
Bad English - AUG ? '89 - Memphis TN, New Omni Daisy Theatre, Beale St., opener - local band
Steve Perry - Feb ? '95 - Little Rock AR, Robinson Auditorium, opener - Bone Pony

And didn't SP have to cancel the end of the FTLOSM tour due to some stomach virus illness?

later~

I still can't believe that ANYONE in a freakin' rock band would EVER believe that recording a song with the title "Butterfly" would EVER be a good idea!!!!!! That's like having a football team with the monniker "The Ladybugs"!!!!

Then you might want to send an email to Neal, Jon, Ross & the boys and ask them WTF they were thinking. No worse than Open Arms or any other love ballad out there. 8) :)

For the record Liz, I DESPISE "Open Arms", and ALWAYS have!!!!! It recently made one of VH1's lists as one of the worst songs ever, and I agree, wholehearedly! That said, giving a song the title "Butterfly" is 1000 times more egregious and offensive, in my opinion, than using "Open Arms", even though they're both a waste of lyrics!

HAHA....I agree...Actually in both cases, I would consider the lyrics to be the worst part...the music in of itself, is rather unoffensive...once you couple it with the cheesiness of the lyrics...that's when shit goes downhill....

Hey Jeff! I would LOVE to hear La Do Da!! Plllleeeeeaaaaaaassssseeee! :D

JSS wrote:Ha ha, no cigar for you either...we put Chain & Message because they're fun to do & after screwing around with MANY songs at sound checks, we experimented with adding/deleting things based on what got the corwds off....much of the obscure stuff left them looking at us like we all had 3 heads! Every day, we toyed with things like La Do Da, Line Of Fire, Where Were You, etc., only omitting them because we knew they'd go over like a lead balloon....try harder next time for the reasons we do things or how we think :)

Easy with the approach thanks. Frank is allowed to have his say - and you your reply. i don't want anyone thinking they cannot express an opinion here - even when I don't agree with it (I dig JSS's raspier/more rock n roll vibe...if you didn't already know!)

Listen gang...I've got a thick skin...it comes from years of liking Trevor Rabin over Steve Howe and getting blitzed by Yes fans....That and lots and lots of Donuts!

Seriously speaking. It's no secret I'm not convinced of JSS in this lineup yet. As it's been covered on our forums, JSS is very much a tenor, the 2 steves are high tenors. This means that both Perry and Augeri have a 'middle c' (I say that to suggest the middle of the vocal range, not a particular note) that's a bit higher than JSS's. JSS's comfort zone is a bit lower than the other two. Not opinion, pure scientific fact. Whether or not Augeri can currently reach his full upper range is an entirely different question, and a valid one right now.

The Reno boot, which is the only full length boot I've heard with JSS....is bad, real bad. JSS is struggling to hit notes all over it...which isn't surprising, since on certain journey songs, he's way out of his range. I suspect Reno was a bad night for him...as I've heard him sing the balls off of stuff as well....the videos that Andrew posted with his interviews are great examples.

It's just a valid point to put forth that Augeri, while of recent, has had very bad nights (when live)...JSS has em too!!

It's no surprise that Journey has adopted some 'other' songs in their live set. The inclusion of 'Message of Love' and 'Chain Reaction' are good examples, as they are less demanding songs for a lower voice.

Like I said, I remain unconvinced....perhaps a live show would do me good. Alas, the last time Journey passed through Long Island, they still had Augeri at the helm....so I've yet to see the band with JSS in person...so I'll have to base my current judgements on what I've heard.

I just listened to Coming Home from the Soul Sirkus CD....and that's probably a good indicator of where Journey will go with JSS......

time will tell.

Yep, Enigma, I saw the VH1 segment. I'm not one for love ballads from rock and roll artists myself..but I gave Journey a wee bit of a pass because of the different stations I hear their music on (easy listening, adult contemporary, oldies but goodies, top 40, etc.).

Ever think about some of the titles to love songs? Usually funny if you think about it:

"Every time I look at you I go blind" ~ Hootie and the Blowfish ~ (not something I'd like to hear my loved one say to me)
"Close to you" ~ The Carpenters ~ (where else would I be?)
"Even the Nights are Better" ~ Air Supply ~ (like you would want them to be worse?????)

You get my drift......perhaps this should be another thread....sorry for going off topic.....

I like your take on the various love songs  A ballad by a rock band has never really bothered me. In fact, some of my favorite tracks, over the years, have been various ballads, by various bands. I still believe that "Faithfully" is the greatest ballad EVER recorded by a "rock band". It's the quintessential Journey track, in my opinion. It's one of those songs that are timeless, and as many times as I've heard the song, it has NEVER once gotten on my nerves! Unlike "Open Arms", which has gotten on my nerves, EVERY time I've heard the song, since 1981!

"A Better Life" is the best song off of Generations. I really love the haunting, spare guitar on it. It's a Cain tune, and if he can do it more like that on the next album (for the 2-3 inevitable ballads), then that'd be cool.

I never had any deep-seated dislike for Augeri. He's a decent singer.. My issue, from the get-go, was that he's not a fit for pairing with Neal. Perry obviously was one in a million.. And now, with JSS, what's so exciting is that it's already a proven thing. Soul Sirkus has 3 great songs that, in my opinion, are better then anything JOURNEY has done since Perry left. Not to mention a handfulk of JSS/Talisman songs (like "Believe in Me") that kick ass as well.

Cain and Deen, and of course Ross, are top-notch players. But Journey is a guitar/singer "chemistry" band, first and foremost. Neal especially needs to feel .. pushed. They've been paying the bills for the last eight years, now it's time to get back to rockin'. Man.

Think Page/Plant
Eddie VH/ David Lee Roth
shit even Angus Young/ either AC/DC vocalist
Etc.

I don't know where I was going with this...

Peace,
Brandon

Me?????
never!
Actually listening to Peephole right now...
Love this fucking song!

You do know that this song woulda been a HUGE radio hit if
it were released under the PlanetUs moniker with Sammy singing?
That's what pisses me off about Big Corporate radio these days!
Just because Jeff doesn't carry the big "He's So Cool" tag like Sammy
does with the pop culture, a gem like the SS album gets totally
overlooked and ignored. Pretty sad...

I guess that's one of the reasons I want so bad to see Journey
make a splash on the charts and radio next year...
Jeff deserves the long-overdue attention and critical acclaim.

Is it a Cain, tune? I thought Neal said he came up with the melody one night while riding his motorcycle?

Just because something's "overplayed", doesn't negate its merit.
Deano's claims about the Vegas dvd and vocal assistance are 100% on the mark.
Sounds to me like your issues with Deano are personal and have nothing to do with the rock solid information he's put forth.

Just because something's "overplayed", doesn't negate its merit.
Deano's claims about the Vegas dvd and vocal assistance are 100% on the mark.
Sounds to me like your issues with Deano are personal and have nothing to do with the rock solid information he's put forth.

Rather than use the "overplayed" card, I'd like to see them actually discredit ONE thing he has said since this "debacle" began. If he is actually wrong, point it out. They can't, so they resort to things being "overplayed" and "not deserving a response." Pathetic.

World Play is a better all-around disc than 'Arrival' or 'Generations'.
Neal outsourced his prime hooks to a one-off album and let Journey wither away at the vine.

As it is, some of the best songs on "Generations" (Heartland, Harms Way) were initially tossed Sammy and Jeff's way before ending up on Cain's lap.

Neal especially needs to feel .. pushed.

Agreed.
But how much pushing, or leverage, can a singer really have when he has lost his main faculty: his voice?
The only angle of power Augeri had left was his status as a full-fledged EQUAL member.
And by most accounts, he exploited it to its fullest.

#1 I think maybe you feel so only because Augeri is singing.
#2 the "waste of lyrics" is about abused women.

13...

For the record, I wasn't judging the subject matter of the song! I simply said the title of the song is embarrassing, and stand by that statement! In terms of your comment about me feeling a certain way because Augeri is singing....you are WAY off-base, dude! If you think I'm some Augeri hater, you're dead wrong! The most critical comment that I've EVER made on ANY Journey board about Steve Augeri was that he simply didn't have the power in his voice that Perry had! For the record, I really enjoyed Arrival and even danced with my wife, at our wedding to "With Your Love". As for "Red 13", and "Generations"...I think they were both VERY forgettable releases, for Journey. As bad as I think "Generations" is, the couple of tolerable songs on that cd are songs that have Augeri singing lead on, and not Neal, Jon, or Ross, thinking they actually have the ability to sing lead, ON ANYTHING!

I just wanted to make my opinion on Augeri clear. Many people confuse the fact that I LOATHE his fans so much with the misconception that I feel the same way about Augeri. By all accounts, Augeri is a good guy and I thought, a decent singer. His only sins, in my mind, were that he wasn't Steve Perry, and that he chose to not sing live, at some concerts that were presented, as being live!
