Sorry about the shameless advertising, but it is Journey related and ALL proceeds will go to a Journey supported charity.
We have some fantastic prizes for the charity auction, but you have to be there on the day to bid.

Several reasons. Firstly, we were trying to locate it in a place that is fairly central to everyone. If you live down south (like I do), Yorkshire does seem like a long way up, but its still actually further to get to there from Scotland than, say, London. On a map of the UK, Sheffield is about as central as it's possible to get.
In addition to that, the support for Journey seems to be more intense in that part of the world. Our friendly Journey tribute band, who will be playing at the convention, are based in the Midlands, but most of their bookings come from up north. They usually sell out when they play up there.
Personally, I'd like to arrange a convention nearer my home in Swindon (which is 3 hours from Sheffield), and maybe a future convention will be. We did consider a venue in Southampton, one in Crewe and several in the Birmingham area, but The Corporation owners very keen to host us and had all the right facilities we were looking for.

Thanks for the explanation Marty. I can understand all the reasons. I actually went to the convention in Barnsley last year and most people thought I was mad to have travelled up from London. In fact...I discovered to my shame that I had travelled the longest distance out of anyone - even the bloke from Scandanavia lived in Manchester. Oh well.
The Essential Journey tribute band were great - but I think I'll stay put this year. But I support you 100% on moving the convention to Swindon next year.

This year, I know we have people coming up from Southampton, Bristol, Newport and Kent, as well as down from Scotland.
