Rare Journey/Perry Solo Tracks

Postby pepsi » Fri Jan 19, 2007 7:17 am

A friend recently gave me a CD with what he said were rare Journey/Steve Perry tracks. The Steve Perry tracks are outakes from tracks on Street Talk the others presumably Journey or Journey related. Does anyone have information about these tracks?

1 With A Tear In Her Eye
2 What's On Your Mind
3 People Get Ready - superb gospel track
4 Walk Your Face Right Out Of Here
5 Road Runner

They all feature Steve Perry on vocals.

1 With A Tear In Her Eye-Demo from ROR. Jon and Neal went back into the studio, and added created an instrumental for the Time 3 box set.
2 What's On Your Mind-I THINK this is from the King Biscuit sessions, which was the first recording of Steve Smith.
3 People Get Ready From the King Biscuit Sessions
4 Walk Your Face Right Out Of Here- Not sure of the origin, but I believe it is a demo from the Infinity era.
5 Road Runner-From the King Biscuit session.

Anyone please feel free to correct my if I am wrong about anything.

I know that "Roadrunner" and "People Get Ready" was done on a show called the "King Biscuit Flower Hour" back in the day. Two ladies from a local SF group called "Stoneground" were there too. I just can't remember off the top of my head which lady did "People Get Ready" with Steve.

Hmmmm for the others........ I am guessing that Journey did these songs as a one off thing......... and somehow they got out of the vault. But I don't recognize the song title "What's On Your Mind".

Michael,

I don't have "Whats On Your Mind" on my King Biscuit sessions. I wonder if pepsi could upload the song to YouSendIt and I can listen to it. Maybe after listening to it, I can get a better idea of the song.

Can you do that pepsi? Upload the song and post the link here?

After thinking about it,"What's On Your Mind" may actually be the "Something To Hide" demo.
If so it is a demo of the song. It's a neat track as you can hear Perry guiding Aynsley at the end "Yeaaahhh..Bash it out!!"
I didn't recognize the title, and thought it may have been on The King Biscuit how.
It's been forever since I have listened to that.

It was the girl named Annie (Baker I think) that sang with Steve.

I've got What's on Your Mind. It's a demo and at the start of the one I've got Steve says something like "OK, let's make the Stones nervous". That makes me think it was something they worked on just before the tour where they opened for the Rolling Stones.

If someone on high speed doesn't upload it I will later.

People Get Ready was done by The Impressions on their Ultimate Collection. Very good version of the song.

Uuummm, guys, the song I have sounds nothing whatsoever like Something to Hide but it has "tell me what's on your mind" as the hook. I can't upload it on dialup until either late tonight or early tomorrow, but I'll dig it out and try to do so by tomorrow.

Shania, does that mean you have the song I'm talking about and are going to upload it? It'll save me from having to go through a lot of CDs because all the songs aren't listed on all the labels.

Hey Sherrie,
The tune I think you may be talking about, the one when Steve says" Let's make the Stones get sacred is "With A Tear (in your eye)".
At least the copy I have of that tune has Steve saying that in the beginning.
The Chorus is something like "With a tear in your eye, she's cryin',My,my,my that you can't deny, yea. With a tear in your eye, I see you cry'. I think one of the reasons that it was turned into an instrumental on Time 3,is because i don't think Perry ever recorded a real vocal for it.The demo version sounds more like he is kinda scatting.

You're right Michael. I just found it. It does sound as if Perry is sort of making words up as he goes along and filling in with various sounds in places. I don't know why I thought it was the other song unless it's because it's been so long since I listened to some of these obscure things.

Oh, did we decide that "What's on Your Mind" is the "Something to Hide" demo where Steve tells Aynsley to "bash it out?"

Just curious. Thanks.
