Well, it shouldn't be a crime. We do have the freedom to be a moron if we want to. Those people simply want to be famous for a few minutes. That being said, I do hate the fact that they are being exploited even though they are willing participants. It's kinda the same mentality as the ancient Romans watching murder and mayhem in the Coliseum.

It should be remembered that those same people, none of whom literally seemed mentally retarded, vied for the opportunity to be on national TV, in some cases undoubtedly emphasising their inherent quirks in a bid to stand out among all the other common folk trying to get their 15 minutes.

American Idol now has Rosie hot on their reality show. She is calling it trash. Something about a pot and a kettle......... with her involved. They were going to bring new surprises this yr. Well,I thought that might have something to do with making the show actually being about musicical talent. Read on Drudge how it has become an insult show ,sadly now including including Randy. Why do Americans watch train wrecks, when China evidently is able to take out our satellites. Oops, there goes your telephones,computer sites , jobs and probably banking and power grids.

And the thing about Chris Daughtry is yeah he was kind of a one trick pony when it came to how he sang the songs BUT he was able to change his voice up a bit. People like the Apollo Creed guy and the juggler just HAVE to know that they won't get through performing like that. And then the families consoling them with the "you will be a star" talks.

I have to agree with Jeremey, Jewel DEFINETLEY had an arogant vibe to her.

Turns out that kid DID have Crozet's disease, or a similar disease that makes your eyeballs bug out. And his buddy is autistic and competed in the Special Olympics. Since then they've become celebrities, and they've signed with a booking agent a la William Hung - So all in all, I'd say things turned out pretty well for them. AI only gives the people what they want to see, and it's also been publicized lately that there are many mentally and physically handicapped people who audition or come down just to meet the judges, and they turn the cameras off and let these kids do their thing. Can't say AI is really to blame for things, though they have experienced more of a backlash this year for ramping up the level of criticism.

I don't understand why they didn't like that first guy that I saw audition last night. The one who was the cheerleading coach. Sure his performance style was a little cheerleaderish but he had a great voice and did a good job of singing Heard it Through the Grapevine.

Then when that blond chick later on did an only passable job on an Aretha Franklin song, they like her. Made no sense to me. She's got a good voice, but she's no Kelly Clarkson, or even Kelli Pickler for that matter.

......I think alot of it is staged......and they also take advantage of some people, but.... Those 2 boys from last week were on Jimmy Kimmel last night....so at least they are getting something out of it.....and getting some recognition in their lives instead of just stares and jeers...so Simons comments and being on the show worked out in their favor.

I believe the parents of these people probably praised them with false admiration for qualities they didn't have, and the kids believed the lie. They didn't prepare their children for reality.
