Remasters on the radio

I just heard the remastered version of DSB on the radio. I don't know why that surprised me, but it did. I guess it never occured to me that the stations would upgrade to the reissues. As soon as I heard the piano intro I knew there was something different and then when the vocals kicked in it hit me that I was listening to the remaster of the song.

I don't what technical terms to use so the best I can come up with is to say it sounds cleaner and more like a live performance. The piano intro sounds clearer and more precise, and the enunciation on the vocals is clearer. The balance of instruments to vocals is a little more even too. Like the instruments have been brought up in the mix or something.

Could it just be that the radio station has a better signal? I know some radio stations broadcast in HD or something like that. For instance, there is one station we have on the dial that has two different signals. One sounds normal, the other sounds like it's been boosted or something.

I remember when I was in college and our radio broadcasting class talked about how each station had the capabilities of multiple signals on either side of their frequency (I think), (must be what they are now using). I never thought they'd actually try and use it. There is not a lot of money in radio now days and now you're adding overhead for a product most people probably won't buy.

I don't think so Dave. It's the same station I always listen to on my same old car radio that Ford installed in 2000. I listen to DSB from the old Escape CD on the same speakers quite often. It was the remaster, I promise.

That's one reason I know this was different. The reason listen to this station is because they play a lot of Journey and Perry. I've heard DSB on there fairly regularly. I don't have the Escape remaster, but I do have the new Street Talk and FTLOSM. The difference I heard today in DSB was the same kind of difference I hear between those remasters and the originals.

KZEP in San Antonio just played the remaster of Butterfly(She Flies Alone). Its the radio edit rendition where they let the guy who changes their bus transmission fluid sing lead along with Steve A.

I cant think of his name, but he is also the guy who was Ross's voice coach on the road right before Generations came out. Its Tague or Thompson Something..???? I cant remember. Ross thanks him on the CD jacket.

Anyway, I really liked the orginal radio edit. But this remastered version is TRULY spectacular.

The guy who sings lead along with Steve A. and who was Ross's voice coach was Tully Thompson. Besides do this he also changed the bus transmission fluid and wiper blades. He also helped drive the midwestern states of their 2005 tour.


Tully was a jack of all trades with the band during the Augeri era.

He was given his walking papers along with Steve.
