VH Parental Issues

Postby shaka » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:25 am

I'm curious what kind of parents would let a sixteen year old go on tour with a band like VH? If I had a kid I wouldn't send him out on tour with an alcoholic father whos last career move was scoring a porn flick. Then add the DLR factor in and you know that things aren't going to be exaclty PG-13 after the show.

What is Valery Bertinelli thinking? I kind of admired the fact that when Eddie was spinning out of control she finally said enough is enough. This news had kind of destroyed that admiration. This whole thing is beyond strange.

I couldn't agree more with you. What the heck is Val thinking letting wolfie go off with Ed after how he was during the 04 tour?

Considering Eddie and his team of shark lawyers, she probably doesn't have much say in the matter. One can only hope that common sense will prevail on this tour. Following in daddy's footsteps isn't necessarily a good thing.

Kids get to an age where you need to be able to trust them. We have no idea what kind of upbringing Wolfie has had...spending most of his time with Valerie already, I would think it is possible that he is very level-headed. I would also think that there has been discussions and agreements between Eddie and Valerie concerning Wolfie. It is up to them what they choose to do...not for us to say. In fact, it is because strangers feel the need to be involved with child rearing that we have so many problems with kids these days. There is an organization out here that uses the slogan "Mind Your Family"....there is a bumper sticker response that says "Mind Your OWN Damn Family".

Have you ever watched "Almost Famous"?

Sure have.

I'd have a problem with any parents who send their kid on a rock tour with a band infamous for riotous backstange behavior. This isn't the type of environment a sixteen year old kid needs to be in night in and night out.

I'm involved with kids in various sporting programs as a coach and official. One thing I've noticed is that the most screwed up kids come from overly permissive parents who do not know what activities are age appropriate for their children. By nature kids will push limits on their own. The last thing a kid needs is for a parent to sanction crossing the line because they don't know what's appropriate. Hell, I was went to see Blood Diamond the other night. It's an extremely violent movie yet there were parents dragging in kids with ages ranging from 2-15. Hello people, there's a reason the show is R rated.

Would you send your kid into an environment every night exhibited the following traits:

Alcoholic father with lots of booze and most likely drugs around
DLR's groupies/strippers backstage every night
Other backstage groupies
Women in the front rows flashing their racks

Might as well take your 16 year old to a strip club every night for weeks on end.

I totally agree.

And, for what it's worth, Valerie was seen in attendance at most of the '04 shows in which Wolfie participated - shows that did not interfere with his school schedule (he went back home to school some time toward late August, I believe). It could very well be that Valerie will be going on the road with him for this tour too.

I agree with all the post...
Hopefully Eddie won't push smoking on his son.
I remember him saying that his mom let him start smoking around 14
what was that like 40 years ago?
But as he said that didn't cause him to get cancer
it was holding picks in his mouth that did it....

I saw a couple shoeson the reunion tour & all honestly Eddie played pretty crappy....
Most of us thought he was changing the parts around.
Pretty sad when HAGAR & ROTHS Guitarist play eddies songs better than eddie!

Yes, except Vic Johnson cannot play Ed solos anywhere near as well as Eddie (even when EVH is D.O.A.)!

I couldnt agree more. I mentioned something similar in another thread about how Val could put an end to this joke of a band and tour.

I can agree. But again, you have no idea what values Wolfie was raised with.

shaka wrote:By nature kids will push limits on their own.

Sure they will. But in this case, his father will be there. And there could be an agreement among EVH and Valerie on certain things. EVH may actually man up and be a father to Wolfie by looking out for him and trying to protect him. What if EVH KNOWS he has a problem and doesn't want that for his son???

shaka wrote:The last thing a kid needs is for a parent to sanction crossing the line because they don't know what's appropriate.

Which you don't know will happen.

shaka wrote:Hell, I was went to see Blood Diamond the other night. It's an extremely violent movie yet there were parents dragging in kids with ages ranging from 2-15. Hello people, there's a reason the show is R rated.

Totally agree that many parents are clueless. And the biggest thing I tried to shield my kids from is violence.

shaka wrote:Would you send your kid into an environment every night exhibited the following traits:

What if EVH has gone to rehab (or has to for the tour)?

shaka wrote:DLR's groupies/strippers backstage every night

DLR might not hang with the rest of VH due to their differences. But whose to say Wolfie will be hanging backstage? Seems to me the EASIEST solution to all of this is to ensure that Wolfie is travelling privately (possibly with a custodian) and prohibited from certain areas.

shaka wrote:Other backstage groupies

Is it still as bad as it used to be? Especially for guys in their 50's? (Honest question...do you think the groupies will be as bad as back in the heyday)

shaka wrote:Women in the front rows flashing their racks

Who cares about that? One, the boy will be 17-18 by the time this happens. (And if he is 18 it will throw all the rest of the arguments out the window). Two, kids these days are seeing more flesh than we ever did already...yes, even the ones raised to be 'perfect saints'. And I am sorry, but I think the taboo of nudity is useless and counterproductive. Nudity would not lead to sex, the taboo of nudity and sex in general is more likely to lead to that undesired behaviour.

shaka wrote:Might as well take your 16 year old to a strip club every night for weeks on end.

That is a stretch. But don't you think if you took your kid to a strip club that often then he would tire of the 'novelty' of nudity and it wouldn't be an issue?

I honestly agree that the biggest issue in my mind is the alcohol.

But my point was really that it is not up to us. We do not know what is going to happen, or what IS happening. And we do not know how Wolfie has been raised. Hell, Wolfie could be gay and then all those issues of strippers and groupies would matter even less. There are just too many things we do not know...and do not need to know. You raise your kids, I will raise mine and they will raise theirs.

I admire anyone who tries to help children in known bad situations. But this is not one of those cases.

With Eddie having porn videos shot at his home, I am very surprised Valerie lets Wolfie go anywhere near there. But on the other hand, this would be every 16-year-old's dream come true.

On one of the Howard Stern interviews, Eddie was asked if Wolfie is getting "laid". Eddie said probably, cause he is a 16 year old kid. He also said that he knew Wolfie was "spankin' it", and that he was taking too long in the bathroom. Eddie says everyone "spanks it".

Eddie is an 18 year old rocker in a 50 something year old body, raising a teen. I don't want to get slammed on Eddies age. They have always publically published his age as being two years less than what it is.

You guys are funny!! You got to remember we are in the 2000's not in the 1970 or 80's anymore. The groupies arent as they used to be or I dont think theres going to be naked women underneath the stage waiting to screw the VH BOys well probably for DLR but come on. Anyone hear of TUTORS. Im sure Wolfie will be getting all of schoolwork done like so many other Kids who are actors and so forth. Look we do not know what kind of parents they are but we can assume they are taking care of Wolfie. You dont see him in the news or VH getting arrested for child abused or endangerment. Hes doing fine. He'll just be in the limelight for a bit , it may be HUGE but kids are more resilent than we think at times. He will be watched over thats for sure. So everyone relax and enjoy the show. Im sure if he cant play the Bass ED will do the right thing if he thinks Wolfie cant cut it.

We'll never know either way. Would you talk with Howard Stern about your kids the way EVH did about Wolfie? I have a hard time imagining a decent father doing that.

Yep, this is the "NEW MILLENNIUM." It's not the '80s. It's not the '90s. It's the uh-ohs!

Raise your kids right as you see fit. I'll raise mine right (if I had any).

Wolfie will be fine.

There's no need to debate about "VH Parental Issues" when none of you knows what the hell is going on with the band anyway. Period.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck then...........

Screw the new millenium. I personally think that we could use a little more conservatism when rearing children. Things have become to permissive. If you don't think there are groupies at rock shows you're nuts. If anything it's gotten worse.

And no, a sixteen year old kid does not need to be touring with a band like VH. It's playing with fire pure and simple.

Okay, shaka's right. Wolfie will probably become the next JonBenét Ramsey, getting raped and killed by a white man wearing a blue polo shirt!

*OMG, I'm about to refer to The Backstreet Boys!*

Yeah, young Nick Carter should never have been on tour with all those teenaged girls flashing their breasts at him! Add A.J. McLean's booze addiction, and it's a carbon copy of Van Halen!
