The best Journey release of all time??

Postby NCscarab » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:36 am

Yeah, yeah...I know this has been asked a thousand times, but I like to see peoples responses and more importantly..the reasoning behind them.So..one more time...name your favorite Journey album/CD and give some reasons as to why.

Just to get things going I'll give you mine.....

TBF because it was the culmination of years of chemistry and expertise. It also reflected the maturity of the band in the depth of meaning in the lyrics. It was Journey's masterpiece.

The Best

Postby journeywoman » Fri Jan 26, 2007 11:43 am

Although I love TBF and listen to it all the time I will have to Escape on this one. They all found themselves together on this one. They brought rock to a whole new standard at that time.

Departure

To me this is the Journey ultimate album. The songs range from rockers to ballads and some very interesting styles somewhere between the two.I like to refer to this as a journey from one end of the musical spectrum to the other with some cool pit stops along the way.

This release has it all...Any Way You Want It....nice radio friendly rocker

Walks Like a Lady....killer bluesy tune..love the guitar/keyboards

Someday Soon....the start of the teriffic trilogy

People and Places.... my alltime fav Journey song!!!! It sounds like no other Journey song I know

Precious Time.....the end of this awesome musical trilogy...love the harmonica

Where Were You....it rocks!!

I'm Cryin...another of those unique sounding bluesy tunes

Line of Fire....rock and roll with a shotgun blast interlude !!

Departure....lovely instrumental

Good Morning Girl...my alltime fav Journey love song!! The vocals are amazing.

Stay Awhile ...beautiful song

Homeade Love...the rockin closer to the ultimate album !!

Dude !! You blow me away !! I thought almost all of the true pre-Perry fans pretty much ditched the band long ago. You my friend are the prime example of the reason I posted this question. I am in your debt for the response......

Frontiers by a hair. I include Ask The Lonely and Only The Young as part of the album, though. Management's decision, while business savvy, probably cost the band a million to three million in album sales. Journey could have had 3 diamond albums putting them in VERY elite company. Anyway, Frontiers has it all. Separate Ways, an "in your face" jam. SHML, a picturesque, lyrically and musically beautiful song. After The Fall, an extremely underrated gem with soaring vocals and a catchy "sing-a-long" chorus. Faithfully, Journey's masterpiece as it relates to ballads. Chain Reaction and Edge Of The Blade are both solid rockers. Add Ask The Lonely and Only The Young and you have 6 Top 40 hits. An unbelievable followup to Escape. Which is why Frontiers* (*includes Ask The Lonely and Only The Young) is my favorite Journey album.

This is the album that "hooked me in" I had Frontiers and Escape but when I heard this I remember making a list and having it on my door to my room and each time I would get a few bucks from my paper route I would by a new "cassette" Actually have a dual cassete Infinty/Next which was kindda weird. But Captured really capttured me  . Then I have always been a fan of Evolution.

Time3 and it's not even fair.

There should be a picture of the clunky, tall, rectangular cardboard Time3 box as it looked upon release in 1992 beside the word Boxset in the dictionary.

Yeah, of course that is the greatest release ever. But single album? E5C4P3.

Frontiers, because it hooked me in the very first time I heard Faithfully, which remains to this day my favorite song in the world, and then when I listened to the rest of the tape (it was 1983, everything was tape!) it was equally as brilliant. I love all 10 of those tracks, yes, even Back Talk. Also, Rubicon, in my opinion, doesn't get the credit it deserves, either - that's one great song, instrumentally and vocally, with a nice message of hope, etc.

So, while Escape comes in a close second, it will never top Frontiers for me.

My pick for best released studio album is "Evolution."

My pick for best single released would be "The Party's Over."

My pick for favorite released live album is "Captured."

E5C4P3 - it hooked me into Journey and drew me to the Holy Trinity (Infinity, Evolution,Departure) which fired me up for Captured and prepped me for Frontiers. ROR lost me a little (should have been a Steve Perry solo CD).

Frontiers for me as of right now. The rockers on that album are nearly untouchable. However, I'm hoping in about a year (or less) I will have a new answer to this question...
