You relly think they would work in a duet? My opinion is there is not enough of a contrast, however, Soto can lower his range and get that bluesy feel.

Well, the only reference I have is the original duet,Perry/Rolie...I replaced Perry with Deen and Rolie with Jeff and with their tones of voices in my mind I could hear them blend nicely.Definitely something mid-tempo with a bluesy feel to it,yes.Jeff exploring the lower range and Deen climbing the vocal Himalayas...lol.I hear it.

It is sure nice to have the cards to play isn't?

I wish I had control of this band. It's like an all star band. So much talent.

JSS wrote:You'll get an earful soon enough of things we conjuring up, Neal & I came up with a few gems reminiscent to the Infinity & Evolution era, the guy has chords flowing out of him no other human possesses, what a joy to write Journey-style music with him..Soul SirkUS was intentionally trying not to be Journey which is the main argument of what people think Journey will become now. Trust the ones you have loved for 30+ years, they know what to do.

There's an 'Infinity' quality to some of the more Journey-ish tracks on "World Play".
'Coming Home', in particular, is melodic yet stripped back.
Like "Patiently", the song excels on the simple chemistry between voice and guitar.
Reminiscent of the early Journey days, before synthesizers threatened to upstage Perry's most ham-fisted of vocal deliveries.
I think the next Journey album will be the best thing since Escape.

Damn, I hope you're right TNC. I know they can do it musically, I just hope the support system is there for them.

Gimme 1 JSS/Cain, 1 Deen-only song and 8-10 Jeff-fronted tracks.

Oh and I think it would sound good to have Neal play guitar. :)

Jon does NOT have a good enough voice to be lead or co-lead on anything Journey.

Yes Cain does.
I think he's ALMOST as good as Rolie was. Long's he's adorned with the instrumentation JC does very passable Rolies on FTW/AT and JTSW.

And if we're talking about going old school Jrny for a piece of the record than a vocalist/keyboardist duet's part of that.
BTW, how do you feel about the song "We're All That Really Matters?"

That's it. I can no longer defend you from the stupidity claims you receive.

I think you have lost your marbles. Cain sucks as a singer, plain and simple. Rolie is superb. There is night and day difference between the two.

Come on dude, you are making an ass of yourself recently.

Cain HAS sounded pretty good in concert because, from what I've heard, his voice went through a computer to make it sound like Rolie. Other than that, I think he's pretty mediocre. Every Generation is average, at best. His new version of Faithfully is mediocre, too. Don't get me wrong, the man can sing...just not at the level that Journey requires. And I'm not sure if I've ever heard the song you're referencing.

It's not because of computers or protools all the time when any singer other than Perry sounds good.

I have NEVER been crazy about Cain as a singer. His voice is thin and weak at best. I hate 'No Solutions' and 'Every Generation' is an OK tune. It could have been better written and maybe Deen should have sang it. Cain is not a voice I care to hear on a Journey CD unless its a backing vocal.

You would not be in the minority on that one I guess.
At the very least, though, I need him to cover (as he does quite ably) the Gregg parts on the old classic material.

If I get that, I'm OK but I would really like to hear him do a Perry/Rolie w/ JSS on the new album.

I agree. He can cover the Rolie parts on the classic material. Maybe working with JSS, Cain could pull off some duet stuff on a new album. I would actually like to hear those types of tunes. Before I knew who 'The Storm' was I thought Journey had tried to capture that Infinity-duet sound in a new song and I loved it. 'I got a lot to learn about love' was a very cool tune. Of course it helped that Rollie was a part of it but I think JSS and Cain might be able to do that. I will give Cain credit for pulling it off in concert.

I just can't go with him on his own to carry an entire song.

I don't want to hear music reminiscent of anything from 30 years ago.

Jon's voice is adequate for background vocals, or as part of a three of four part harmony, but if they're going to go back to doing duets within the band it needs to be JSS and Deen.

It's not? lol No shit, sherlock. Cain is just not Journey frontman material, either as lead or co-lead. What's so hard about that to understand? If anyone will be doing a co-lead it will be Deen. Jon is perfect in his current role. That is, songwriting, keyboards and background vocals (and some rhythm guitar once in awhile).
