AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mrs AR said it sounds like nails on a blackboard.

Sounds like the guy on American Idol the other night. Dude sounded like a girl. Simon said the problem was he needed to be wearing a dress and stilettos! LOL   I agree with you, this guys voice is extremely irritating. Very thin and annoying.

It may be annoying, but it's ANYTHING but thin.

Might be thin sounding due to the low fidelity of Youtube. I'll have to check out some other shit he sings.

OK...he does "wail" way too much. With the proper guidance this dude could sing anything. His voice is incredible.

Hey, the guy on AI the other night hit some amazing notes too. It just wasn't right being male and singing like that. Sounded like an air raid siren. Anyone that CAN hit those notes deserves some respect though.

Thanks. It's all personal taste man. Just not my cup of tea and I DO like most metal and hair band stuff.

This guy had one of the strongest voices of the late 80's hair bands....
He kinda blew a good chance to get re noticed with the rockstar soundtrack..
he didn't do any press , videos or appearences for the movie.
I think the song that JSS sang on was called Late for the party.. very cool tune...

Jimmy Barnes also has a good share of the "human air raid siren" title also. Of course, I've also heard "angle grinder" mentioned.... Find a live recording of Barnes doing one of his screams and you will see what I mean.

This is the difference between Perry and 95% of the singers out there. Hitting high notes is easy--many people can do it if trained. Knowing what the song needs (as opposed to using the song as a basis for vocal acrobatics) is what separates the great singers from everybody else. Perry is one of the few that had that mastered.

Matejevic has a good voice (as far as raw talent goes), but simply hitting very high notes doesn't automatically make you a great singer. I doubt Sam Cooke could hit some of Perry's notes, but he could sing circles around almost anyone.

Not a fan of the voice. Too high. Yes, he can wail. But once you get that high, sometimes you lose the feeling in the voice.

See Slaughter, Mark.

Personally I'd much rather hear Steve Perry, Trial by Fire era, than this. bravo to him for honing that wail and finding a niche though. Just ain't my niche.

Put well. To me, "vocal acrobatics" like this are a lot like the Van Halen knockoff guitar bumblebees of the 80's. Fantastic but completely unnecessary, and kinda detrimental to what else is going on in the song.

I did backgrounds on the whole 2nd Steelheart album, the guys were way cool & it wasn't till the Rock Star soundtrack I was reunited with Mike, the guy got up there, cool if it was your thing, I preferred him a lower range instead of the screeching high notes.

Did you do background vocals on their first album too?

Mili Matijevic:

His first name is Mike actually, & yes he has an amazing set of pipes. "Tangled in Reins" is a great album, & I believe Jeff did some backing vocals on it (I can't find mine right now to see which songs, lol). Matijevic is also the voice behind Mark Wahlberg's character in "Rock Star" (Jeff is the voice behind the first singer).

He changed his name from "Mike" to "Mili" for whatever reason...something about his ethnic background...

With a last name like that he has to be Serbian or Croatian. Similar variations exist in my neighborhood and they are all one of the aforementioned two.

When I was a kid my Serbian Grandmother (which makes me part Serb) had a disdain (like most Serbs) for the Croats. I think she just rolled over in her grave with your mentioning of the two in the same breath!

Do the Serbs and Croats get along in your neighborhood? Hopefully time has healed any wounds between the two. I'm not at all active in the Serb community. They frighten me! As a child I attended Serbian Orthodox church - when they still held service in the Serbian language - and they are just a crazy group of angry people.

??? I don't hear the feminine overtones in this performance at all. The kid on AI most definitely needed a dress but not Mili.
