I was a technician for Nocturne for 6 years (83 thru 89 ) and then came back and worked for Neal from '93 until 2002.
During that time I rebuilt, ran and managed his studio, equipment and from time to time, teched for other artists such as Todd Rundgren, Paul Rodgers, Ronnie Montrose, among others.
I worked and recorded Tracy Chapman at Neal's studio, Did guitars for Rancid at Fantasy, and a little known band at the time... Green Day.
I was Neal's personal assistant from 94 through 98 when the band started. I did construction projects for the band as needed from '93 on, and Rindell and I basically did the day to day work for Neal from his return from L A in 1994 after the Northridge Earthquake until we left in 2001 / 2002 respectively.
I also supervised the construction of a LARGE retaining wall in order to prevent the hillside Neal's house from eroding under the foundation. this was during the El nino floods of '95or was it '96....
Next year I installed a dual fuel back up generator for the whole house,
During TBF I ran the songwriting sessions, recording and compiling everything said and played in the studio from start to finish, daily.
managed the stringed instruments during the recording sessions. made lots of espresso's and lattes.
I was officially the Crew Chief and Lead Technician for Journey from 1998 until 2001
I recorded two independent projects with NEal, Electric World and Piranha Blues.
I assembled the items and inputted the data into the software for the rollout of JourneySwag. I was Internet Operations Manager in 2002 for the rolllout and then I melted down. just before the tour start. Thats when JourneyCat took over, poor lady.
A job like this WAS part administrative assistant, part tech, part babysitter, part "drinking" buddy, part EMT.
I have no idea what it's like today.
Basically, kept the gear running, inventoried, shipped, strung, cleaned and operable, as well as kicking the cash flow meter from "out" to "in'.
