OT-- Who is the pioneer of Classic Rock??

I dont think there is a wrong answer is there?? Is it all the bands who were at Woodstock, is the begining after woodstock??

yes to all those and I'll throw in Cream, The Doors and Janis Joplin. It's tuff to pick one--each one contributed in a different way.

As a non-musician and someone who was born in 1968, I would have to say The Beatles, Hendrix, and Led Zepplin. Since I didn't experience any of it when it happened, take my opinion with a grain of salt. It just seems like those three individuals/groups had such a huge impact on the direction of rock music.

I don't know the answer, but I also have a question that I've been wondering about..."What defines Melodic Rock, Progressive Rock, and Metal?" I know what Heavy Metal is, but some groups are known as Metal & they don't sound Heavy Metal. In fact, I'm not sure what consitutes Alternative.

Zeppelin, Yardbirds, and the Stones, as far as I'm concerned. Love Zeppelin, but I've never cared much for the Stones. Not that I don't respect what they've done - just not my bag.

ill go out on a limb and state that Bill Haily invented what we call rock n roll ,, at least in the form that we know it,, built from those amazing blues players of the 40's,, which was built on jazz of the early 1900's...

buddy holly , from lubbock, then paved the road for elvis , then the beatles and stones,, classic rock is what i love... but i have heard it so much that im so sick of some of it,, i hear "sweet home alabama" and i mimic that opening line now.. Turn it Off!.. done with ALL pink floyd radio songs,, i respect the greatful dead , but cannot understand it.. cant ever listen to another Steve Miller song again... i love classic rock stations that play the other cuts.. i go YEA!!! if your gonna spin Floyd dont let it be,, dark side, or momentary lapse , or money,, or another brick ,,

i dont ever see Nirvana being classic rock , they were great at what they did,, KISS will always be Heavy Metal and yet they never wrote or played a heavy metal song,, journey is classic rock but considered wimpy because of 3 ballads... Ted Nugent used to be called ACID Rock when i was young,, i suppose that was the worst of the worst..

right now im into Grand Funk and Head East..

funny , was listening to Satanic Majestys the other day,, 2000 Light Years and Shes Like a Rainbow , and 2000 MAN are GREAT... BUT out there strange,, but Gomper??? oh man ,, the drugs were flowing on the recording,, such a bizzare recording..

Gomper, The Lantern, Sing This All Together (See What Happens) are all aquired tastes of an unusual experimental period.
All recorded JUST before the engine, Keith, went to the crucial "open G" tuning more often and created the JJFlash riff and good night, Irene. A juggernaut is born.

They weren't gods during Satanic on back but I look at that album back to the beginning in '62 as The Stones' "Pre ESC4P3" era. Which is to say they were "only" great.

After that point, much like the first few seconds of ESCP43 from Departure, the difference from Satanic to Beggars is actually stark and palpable. There's even a 1-off transition period parallel with JJFlash and The Party's Over (pre-ESC4P3 but definately POST Departure and the difference to me is CLEAR).


Now to bring the discussion back FULL circle, the Stones every time around are asked why they choose the bands they do to tour with and invariably they say they tour with bands that they think BEST represent what real rock-n-roll IS and that I think is a huge middle finger in the grills of those who like to rip down Journey's now 31-year legacy.
The FIRST band the Stones wanted to line up with on the mega Tattoo You tour was Journey.

i saw them on the Steel Wheels tour in Dallas with Living Colour,, that was the best stadium show ive ever seen , or better yet, best show .. everyone stood the entire time (well until keith sang Sad Sad Sad) ..

ok ,, this is the story i thought i remember reading ... neal knows the stones from the tour with journey,, so when mick gets ready for his solo tour he hires neal ,, neal rehearses with the band, and shows up at the airport and the band left without him , and hired satriani instead.... is this accurate?,,

another side note,, bobby keys (stones sax player) is from lubbock ,, he got drunk one night in 1987 at a club and accused me of stealing his sax,, i said , "no way man" ,, he grabbed me and tossed me to the ground,,,the bouncers beat the snot out of him,, 1 year later im watching him at the Cotton Bowl... found an Expensive Whinos album not long ago,, there he is on the cover... i was floored... the end of the story? i jammed the other night with bobby keys guitar player,, i reminded him of that story and we laughed big..
