A few weeks back the #1 album in the USA got to that position after selling a mere 61,000 copies.

With the support of WalMart and the like, Journey could do that easly with a single at radio and momentum from live TV appearances for their new record.

So I say embrace where the consumers are and go for it.

Like so many have been saying on here for so long. It's what Herbie would have done. Get the music to the people.

This has been going on for quite some time. From what I recall, Journey has done a few corporate gigs nearly every tour. These gigs are never promoted hence the reason most of the general public never hear about it.

OK. If they have been doing these Corporate gigs nearly every tour, why is this any different now? Did it help them in the past? I guess because it's Walmart it's a better choice than some of their other Corporate gigs maybe due to Walmart's large CD sales? The one thing I hated to see was Tower Records and the like go belly up because Walmart's CD choices are very limited. If you like a large variety of music you will not find it at Walmart. If they can break a new CD so that it ends up in the front racks at Walmart they have a good chance to sell some product since due to the limited selection most people think what's at the front of the racks is the latest & greatest.

Journey does need to think outside the box and do WHATEVER will help. I think Jeff will help bring some new ideas to the table. He is tireless and will help their promotion greatly I believe.

I worked for Wal*Mart for 10 1/2 years and they always had a big name at their yearly Share Holders Meeting. I don't know if they still do, but they used to send one associate from each store and then all shareholders were invited. The store associates never knew who was going to play, but I do remember that when Garth Brooks hit it big, he played and I believe Brooks & Dunn did also. It was in the early 1990's during the country craze.

They even had a tour of Mr. & Mrs. Walton's home. I never got the chance to go and I am not upset by that, because I would not travel well on a BUS from SC to Bentonville, Arkansas!

When I saw your post, I wasn't going to bust on Wal Mart but the customer base they generally attract.
At least in Maryland, any Walmart you go into is filled to the brim with folks that are usually dentally,hygenically and proportionately challanged.

Hehe... I am in Wal Mart at least once a week. Why pay $1.60+ for a can of dog food, when you can get the same can for $0.94 at Wal Mart? When your dogs eat 21 cans of food a week, you do the math! And I am not dentally, hygenically, or proportionally challenged. The hygenically challenged part may have been questionable one night last summer when I ran into Wal Mart to buy several cans of tomato sauce after my dog got sprayed in the face by a skunk!

Don't know how many of you have ever been to Maryland, but there is a very proportionate part of the population that are very..."uncultured" .LOTS of engine blocks in the front yards if you know what I mean.

The idea of Journey using WalMart or another big American store (don't know any others) to promote themselves with JSS is a great one.

In the present market, getting themselves airplay and the new CD seen in some of the biggest stores in America can only be a good thing.

The band's management would probably be best to go with WalMart as they could tie into the deal for similar things to be done to promote the new line-up here in the UK as WalMart own the 2nd biggest food chain over here in Asda.

The Walmart music department blows. LOL! Don't laugh, but I was in there last night trying to find a Ambrosia CD! All I found was latin, latin, and more latin! Don't get me started! That said, I depend on Wal Mart for all of my shopping, with the exception of clothes. You can't beat the prices. On the off grocery store trip my bill was double what I normally would have spent. Now that I have a car payment, I cheap where ever I can. Nothing wrong with that. If people don't like the way they treat their employees, I have three words for them: Don't work there!

I worked there several years back, got an education and decided I deserved better. You are what you put into yourself.

As to Journey playing a gig for them, whatever works. It's all good!
