I know Lady. I've heard some of John's great vocals. He just seemed to focus on his guitar tonight rather than his vocals.

John Mayer plays some great guitar. Tends to not overplay and just picks the right notes. I believe our own Neal Schon mentioned in an interview that John Mayer was one of the few great new talents out there in a landscape full of crap.

neal smokes him...i dont get it man,, when i first heard the stink about mayer, i really started to pay attention to him , and i saw him sitting with clapton , highlighting the show , on the dvd in dallas of clapton,, i just dont think hes a over the top good guitar player at all... but , i dont dig his songs or his songwriting,, i dont understand his style ,, his and dave matthews,, i dont know why they are at the top of the game,, i miss it..to stuck in the 70's and 80's i guess,, keep on truckin!

Sorry Larry, to each his own but I like his feel. Nice vibrato and uses dynamics well. Some don't know how to play with dynamics and only play loud or one volume.

thanks,, im gonna really check him out this week,, its funny how diff folks hear things differently.. i have gotten into a bad habit of comparing new guitars to the old shredders, blues or not,, ill say , "well , gary moore is better" .. so on and so on,, schon might know what hes talking bout..

Sorry, but I thought Shakira's performance sucked. If she can sing, why didn't she? OK, I know she CAN sing, but why didn't she?

Overall...the look and presentation of this year's show:

Very Classy & Elegant...and everyone is SINGING & PERFORMING LIVE.

Mary J. Blige with an Orchestra?

Rap performers in SUITS?

Very nice... 8)

I don't like the country songs that Carrie Underwood sings, but she's got one hell of a voice.

The performance that she just did with Rascal Flatts on the Eagles music was absolutely rock and it sounded great. Rascal Flatts is closer to 80s rock than any (supposed)rock band on the charts today. Why do we have to catagorize music?

Well, they're both good singers. Carrie is just more versatile than Kelly. I appreciate good voices and talent no matter what genre they perform in.

Christina Aguilera is proving right now why she's several cuts above Britney or Shakira. I wish she had relied on her voice all along instead of falling into the gutter with the rest of them.

Pretty amazing performances from most everyone up there, even Chris Brown's dancing was impressive, though why he was up there with Smokey and Lionel, I have no idea! Smokey sounded and looked amazing, I wonder how old he is - He's been there for just about ALL of it! And John Mayer's just an amazing guitarist. As he gets older and his voice gets less affected, he's developing into a pretty amazing artist. Though I did have to sit through about 80% of a John Mayer concert earlier this week - Pretty sleepy stuff except for the guitar playing and the drummer was pretty amazing too.

Larry, Sir, with all due respect.
I think you need to have the wax
cleared out of your ears fella.
Never mind the breathiness that
he offers in song.
Look at how the man plays his axe, he
plays it in a whole different way than
most pickers, he's way up high on the
neck of the wood.
I'm goona go easy on ya because I
like ya so much and it seem's my fellow
sisters have already slayed ya here
and of coarse we all have our own opinions.

Be nice to John, don't make me come to
Texas and smack ya around Sir.

The Police opened the show and they were lively, looked young and had various colored lighting and sang "Roxanne."
Sounded exactly like they used to and Sting definitely hit the high notes with absolutely no problem.
They all appear to be fit and had energy between them. Sting said before the song," We are the Police and We are back!"

I thought The Police did well, I didn't feel Sting
hit the high notes as he did originally with
Roxanne but I did expect him to.
Age plays a big part in how the pipes sound
almost 30 yrs later in most vocalists.
They did look great and seemed very vibrant
and full of vavoom.

Though I'm not a big Christine Aguilera fan.
I think she did the James Brown tune great!
No dobt coming from my ears that she can sing.

I have been trying to find out who designed
Carrie Underwood's green dress, anyone here know?
I loved that dress man!

Damn, I missed the Police. Christina was incredible. Chic can flat out BLOW. She needs to round up some of the rest of her contemporaries and give them a vocal pitch clinic. She had the power AND the pitch. Wish I could say the same thing about Mary J. B. She's got power and soul, but is flat half the time.
Lionel and Smokey were classy...as always. Smokey's got to be in his 70's.
The Chili Peppers sucked for air and the Dixie Chics make me cringe. Justin tries too hard to be black. 8)

I was surprised at how flat their performance was, but I will say this...they were the only group who was clearly playing live without any help. You heard one drum, one bass, one guitar, and live vocals. Gotta give them credit for that.

All these classic rock bands are coming out of the wood work! I love it!
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.
