Thank you, THANK YOU for not using the word "Legacy."
YoungJRNYfan wrote:I know this is probably unlikely, but is there anyway Journey can remaster the Greatest hits album at JSS as lead singer? I know there are likely legal rights owned to the band and to Steve Perry, as well as other band members like Steve Smith. But redoing this album can put Journey out there to the public and introduce them as what they are today, not what they were years ago, which I know is great history. I think it would be interesting though to see a deal get made sometime and let JSS and the band record the classics again with the new lineup. But if they didn't do it with Augeri, they probably wouldn't with JSS. I don't know, I think it would be awesome.

As much as I LOVE what Jeff's doing with Journey, and really enjoy his performances of the 'classics' (Deen's too), I think I would be opposed to re-recording the original songs. Maybe it's the 'loon' in me, but I believe that the Steve Perry 'legacy' (sorry, but true) should remain intact. My feeling is that a lot of Perry fans would be turned off by this, and it would ultimately hurt the band in the long run.
I'm ready to hear new, original stuff outta these 5 guys!!! Starting in Virginia this May!!!

In the liner notes, have a forward from JSS saying how much he admired Steve Perry and how it has been a dream of his to perform these songs, etc..........
Just my take. I think it would be cool if they did that. Looking forward to new material first, but I would support a CD of some classics recorded by this lineup.

Why would re-recording the hits from the 70s and 80s help to introduce the band as it is today?
I guess it would be interesting if they dramatically rearranged the songs - but I can't see that happening. Okay - the drumming might be a bit tougher and the vocals a bit weaker. Other than that it'll probably sound like the classics do in concert; very similar versions but not quite as magical as the originals.

#1) blatant cheap shot, you're lucky I like you.
I think JSS' vocals are pretty stinking strong, but very different than SP

How is that possible?

Just because!

The only message a re-recorded GH would send out to the public is: we are a band who peaked twenty-five years ago and we've run out of ideas and have no confidence that our new material will make an impact.
I really hope that Journey don't pursue this idea - or if they do that they only re-record one song with a successful female solo artist (in the way Waite has rehabilitated himself by teaming up with Krauss) and use it as a single to launch an album of new material.
But an entire album of GH covers? A disaster in the making....

I agree with you on these two points Matt. I could see taking a couple of the older album cuts that weren't released as singles and adding Jeff's touch to them.
