Pre-show gettogethers for the Journey UK shows

Postby MartyMoffatt » Wed Feb 21, 2007 5:49 am

Note: This will probably only be of interest to those people attending any of the Journey shows in the UK. Apologies to everybody else.

After a lot of suggestions from local fans and much debate we've compiled a list of pubs we all plan to meet at before each show in the UK.

Here's the list:

Sheffield – Lloyds Bar.
Newcastle x 2 – Trillians
Glasgow – Solid Rock Bar.
Nottingham – Langtry’s
Manchester x 2 – The Stage Door (or whatever they are calling it now)
Cardiff – TBA
Bournemouth – The Moon in the Square.
Birmingham - The Brass House.
Hammersmith – The Duke of Cornwall

We haven't yet agreed on a location for the Cardiff show, so if you have any good suggestions let us know. Otherwise, if you feel like meeting up with like-minded fans and friends before your Journey show come along to the pub mentioned above.

Last year before the Manchester show we met at the same place (The Stage Door, right next to the concert hall). The bar staff there had NEVER experienced anything like it - hundreds of fans converging at the pub 3 hours before the concert - they actually ran out of beer and said it was the best concert crowd they'd ever seen.

You know Marty,,, youve always been a nice guy on all the boards you post at, but this time I am dissapointed!
I mean, if you post about the get-together here and teasing those who cant make it to the UK shows, dont you think that instead of apologizing, you should be a nice guy and make arrangements for all of us(plane/hotel/show) so ,that we can attend your get-together?
And tell you what,,, you do that,, and we'll make sure that we get you over here when the guys are back touring US .
Sounds like a fair deal to me

Well. my question to you is... why haven't you already booked your flight? I'm sure you must have seen Journey several times in the US, and I have to admit you do have far superior concert halls and venues. However, the UK is hard to beat for atmosphere at gigs, and the pre-show pub experience is all part of that.

I'd love to have you all over here to sample our British hospitality, but I need to save my pennies (potentially) for Rush's tour of the US in the summer. Besides, we're already entertaining several US guests throughout this March tour.

I wish I could afford to go to the UK and attend one of these pub parties and concerts. I've always wanted to visit the UK. Not ever going to happen, but I'd love it. :D

Dean, seeing the UK has been a dream of mine since I was a teenager. I'm a history and antiquity buff and the UK is the mecca of that for me. Not to mention it's where the Beatles and Bee Gees came from.

Deano, there are places here even I wouldn't want to go. But, like Sherrie said, it's full of history and antiquity and, although we sometimes take that for granted here, it's still pretty impressive. I'm not sure about the Beatles and the Bee Gees, though. There are other bands I'd prefer we lay claim to, like the Rolling Stones, Queen, Deep Purple (or maybe not, in their current incarnation  ), Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Free, Bad Co, Cream, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, U2 etc etc etc - all groundbreakers in rock music and originating in the British Isles.

And when it comes to live music, although I love the amenities and space in most US venues, I also love the seedy, working class atmosphere at most UK venues and the intimacy and sheer volume of crowd noise generated at some of our smaller venues.

C'mon Marty. You know those other groups might not have even have existed for this side of the pond if the Beatles hadn't broken ground for them. Geez, just to stand in The Cavern. The Bee Gees are just personal favorites of mine.

If Uncle Irv asked me, and Soto and Schonny begged me, I would tell them to eat dick..No way I go over the Pond to Europe. I can read history without the foul smell of B.O. and brown shit stained chicletts in my grill all day. No thanks.

Marty, you are good dude. You have to admit though, that you would rather live in North America minus Mexico(toilet), than the UK, right?

LOL....sit boo boo sit.  I hear ya and I wouldn't trade the Rockies for anything, but since I missed visiting my relatives when they lived in Sydney (they have moved to Coromandel, New Zealand) I definately want to get there some time.

And thanks Andrew, some day. :)

Larry hon, I guess he may have looked like some representations of Christ, but to me Barry Gibb was absolutely gorgeous.
