I'll just say this regarding Neal....If I were in his shoes, on stage with a singer I had little chemistry with, I would be focused almost 100% on my own performance and enjoy my own little world, with the obligatory smile and nod every now and then in SA's direction.

It's not that he didn't know something was going on Moon. It's that he chose not to know the extent of it. Let's say you know your sister is doing something that isn't quite legal, but no one is being truly harmed by it. You also know that exposing the problem would cause more problems for your family than it would solve for the time being. Do you choose to stand on ethics, say to hell with everyone else and dig into it and expose the injustice like the flaky heroine in a romance novel? Maybe it would be better to put it in the back of your mind and wait until the time is right for everyone. Just one possible scenario.

I brought this up a while back.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Neal's IEM mix
was totally void of any vocals and he only heard
what little he could from what was getting piped out of the house PAs.
In essence, he may have known Augeri was "getting help" from time-to-time
but he could have no-shit been in the dark as to how much Elson was "substituting".

Nope, not buyin' it. He knew...they all knew. Jeremey said exactly what I was thinking about the Wiggler and one of his parting gifts from the band...possibly allowing the Dallas DVD to be released. Augeri probably figures if his fans couldn't see the lipping all along for themselves and never believed it, then why not release the DVD and get some revenue from it? They're all gonna deny it happened, especially to the extent of how long and how much it happened.

So, it appears to be a legit publication & this is actually what Neal said...but...I just don't understand the part about "not being aware of the lipping"?? Why not just say, "no comment" - 'cuz how could a guitarist standing next to a singer on stage every night not know? Maybe, this interview will elaborate on that or someone can enlighten me 'cuz right now it makes Neal sound like he was in another world during that time.

If Neal tuned Augeri out a while ago - Meaning if his voice was too distracting and his struggling made it difficult for Neal to focus on his performance - It's very possible that his personal in ear monitor mix had very little, if any, Augeri in his ears. I watched an Under the Radar show during which Augeri looked like he was having a blast and ducked notes left and right and strained on high parts throughout the entire evening, and if you think Neal would have enjoyed listening to that night after night, you are nuts. A lot of automation is running through those IEMs, from click tracks, to backing vocals, to supplemented keyboards. If you are Neal Schon are you going to focus on making your guitar sing, or what appears to be coming out of your singer's mouth versus his monitor system?


Now the extent to which the tape usage was a band decision is debatable. I've always thought that it was initially used as a supplement that grew into a crutch and worse, but the extent of what was used out front was ALWAYS at Elson's discretion.

Thanks for some explanation, Jeremey...although, I think any layperson reading that article when it comes out is gonna think the same thing I did..."huh?" I wonder if that is the extent of what Neal says about in the interview or if he will elaborate.

I think it has to do with a story that was going around
the water-coolers, sometime in June 2006, that Augeri got caught backstage
"Lipping and Tonguing" his Mic...
Kinda like "Mary Katherine Gallagher" did with that poor tree...

WHOA, WHOA, WHOA....wait a minute. You're forgetting one thing. Go back and look at the body language of Neal and Friga. They knew EXACTLY what was going on. There were times they looked embarrassed to be on stage. Almost as if they had to fight to make it through the show. They were robotic, didn't move and hardly ever cracked a smile. If they DIDN'T know, explain why they acted that way? C'mon folks, they knew. Every single one of them.

Won't argue that it is an awful thought if it's true, but anything is possible. I would hate to think it would be true, but the thinking behind management allowing it might only have to do with the realization that those in denial about the whole situation would buy it anyway. Can you imagine pages of conspiracy between wigglers who INSIST that of COURSE the audio is synched up, they never actually have live music in DVDs without it being doctored first. Can you imagine that bunch with their heads in the sand and think they would ever concede that tapes weren't being used? By that thinking, management may have used it to pay off a portion of Augeri's money coming to him, rather than cut him in on any future tours or anything.

I think the reason Dallas 05 wasn't released is because Augeri never recovered enough to re-do the vocals. Is there a chance a former vocalist goes into the studio to re-do vocals for a new release...I say this release is another of Neal's "plans" that never comes about.
