OT: "Import CDs"

Postby belar » Fri Feb 23, 2007 7:38 am

I've been checking out some of the music Andrew lauded in his 2006 Melrock awards via iTunes downloads, and I've decided that I need to buy some of these CDs and investigate further. The only problem is that I'm in the US and many of these CDs are only available as imports online for $25-$30 each. Does anyone know of a good online source for music where I can find some of these artists' music (The Poodles, Harem Scarem, House Of Lords, etc.) a little cheaper? I really would rather buy the physical CD than just download the albums from iTunes.

Any help is appreciated.

I think you can find some of those names on this site:

http://www.musicbuymail.com/index.php?sn=905752fc8a494cff58c652da2cd8a1b4&cur=2&tax=0 (click on the album covers on the left)

Haven't checked it throughly, but the prices seem better.

Thanks Shania. The prices are better. Shipping is a little steep, but if you buy multiple pieces in the same order, I guess it's more reasonable.

Another vote for NEH Records. I've used them a fair amount and no problems at all. www.aorheaven.com out of Germany is also good if NEH doesn't carry the item, but it takes a bit longer to get the cds.

:D Well, while I download boots using torrents all the time, I just don't feel right downloading studio releases. I like to buy the CDs to support the bands, you know?

Actually I 100% agree. However, I don't have the same disposable income I used to so torrents do help me decide where I will spend my money. If I like it, I will still buy it!

Very Happy Well, while I download boots using torrents all the time, I just don't feel right downloading studio releases. I like to buy the CDs to support the bands, you know?

I don't see any other option. It's not like I can go down to the store and buy a Harem Scarem album. I'd have to pay at least $20, probably closer to $30, just for a single Harem album. I like their music, but $25 for about 40 cents of plastic? That's bullshit...so off to the torrent sites I must go. The labels are in trouble, and I hope there's a special place in corporate hell for them when they all go under.

I feel bad, I wish I could support a band like Harem...I go to a lot of concerts, and that's my primary way of supporting bands (since bands make more from touring than album sales anyway, typically), but since HS hasn't had an album released in the U.S., oh, I dunno, EVER, I doubt I'll ever get to see them live, unfortunately.

There is so much music I love that I can't buy (affordably) anywhere, that I stopped feeling guilty about downloading a long time ago. I can find a million copies of Justin Timberlake's album, but Thunder's new album doesn't even get a U.S. release? Come on.
