I don't want to start anything major here. I just have to be honest, as the tapegate saga has come up again, it got me thinking about the whole thing for a second time. I, being just short of 19, saw Journey for the first time in summer 05 (and also Nov. 05 and June 06). Now that all this has come out, I honestly feel a little cheated that it seems I technically have yet to hear live vocals at a Journey show (minus Deen's). I know now Jeff is in the band, and everything has changed (for the better it seems). However, I can't stop wondering, if the guys had no problem using tapes with Augeri, couldn't try it again with Jeff in say 10 years, if he starts to have vocal problems. It's not like Augeri was the only siner the band has had with vocal problems. I guess in short, is it safe to say the band will most likely not do anything like that again, and the tape days are over, or chould they come back if the band feels necessary. I hope the first option is the case. What do you guys think.
P.S. - I don't mean any negativity towards Jeff. Although I have not seen him in concert, youtube, etc. have led me to think that he is a great guy/performer/singer. I have just been thinking about this whole debacle, and this question came into my head.

Although I have not seen him in concert, sites like youtube and his website have led me to think that he is a great guy/performer/singer and a total asset/step in the right diretion for Journey. I have just been thinking about this whole debacle lately, and this question came into my head.

Knock on wood neither happens but the answer is no way, I'd bow out before resorting to miming unless it called for it (tv shows that don't allow live performance, video shoots, etc.,)

Well I think talking about what they will be doing in 10 years time is premature. Remember in 10 years the youngest member will be 52 and the oldest will be 68 - not a huge deal - but something to keep in the back of your mind:).
I was not around for the tapegate issue but I don't think that would be something Jeff would do.

RumTumJM wrote:First off the bat, I hope I did not offend/annoy/etc. anyone, especially Jeff. with my last post. I just simply wanted to pose a question as a frustrated Journey fan.
Ever since June when this saga began, I have spent much time thinking about the whole thing, like I bet many of you have. I saw the band 3x with Stevie and, in all honesty, I guess I felt a little cheated when I found out much of those shows could have potentially been pre-recorded. (I do not mean tha as an attack against Steve. I understand that he may have started experiencing vocal problems in the later years) Since I am 19, I speak as a next generation Journey fan, who has often had peers laugh at me, etc. because of my intense love for Journey. My own mom laughs when I mention the name Neal Schon because I speak of him as such a deity.
After reading the responses, especially Jeff's, I can officially say that my enthusiasm for Journey has returned to it's peak. I had been debating whether or not I would attend a future Journey concert, but now there will be not stopping me from getting Journey tickets. I have heard (and seen on YouTube) many great things about Jeff as a person/performer, and at this point I have no reason to not believe those things.
Once again, I hope I did not offend anyone, especially Jeff, with my intial post. If I did, I sincerely appologize.
Here's to the return of Journey in 2008!!!!!
Sincerely,
James (aka RumTumJM)
