The OSCARS

Postby Behshad » Tue Feb 27, 2007 12:07 am

So did anyone watch the Oscars last nite!?
Even though I dont like Ellen DeGeneres, I think she did a pretty good job.
I was happy to see Scorsese finally get one for "The Departed"
The only thing that annoyed me a bit was how English got butchered by so many winners. Worse even when some had their speaches in their native languages. If you know youre nominated and you might have to get on stage, at least prepare a 2 sentence "Thank you " speach in english.

It's the one day of the year the wife has control of the main TV. She watches all the "pre-game", the whole thing. Not my cup of tea. She said it was good.

I didn't watch any of it. I really wanted to see Ellen host it, but just got busy with other stuff and never turned it on. I was glad for some of the winners I've heard about.

Not really! Well not if youre a movie buff. Specially since this years Oscars was broadcasted in HD, it was nice to see in high def how our tax money can provide some glamour for 1500+ overpaid people in the film industry
It also gives you some brownie points if you watch it with the wife

Not my wife. She only likes horror movies. We saw The Number 23 over the weekend. Intresting, but not that good.

Nah, I turn the shit off once Joan and Melissa Rivers on the red carpet stops.

I HAD kicked around watching to see if Clint or Scorsese would win but once I saw Degeneress was hosting I turned it right the hell off.

Really, that's disappointing for me. I really like movies like that. I don't like the blood and gore horror stuff, but the ones like Sixth Sense and What Lies Beneath are great. I thought this looked like one of those.

IMO, those two movies blow The Number 23 away, Sherrie. But you should still see it - it just didn't grab me.

Didn't watch. The only person I had hoped would win was Will Smith. I thought The Departed was highly over rated. Little Miss Sunshine was okay, but Oscar worthy? Movies just really suck these days, IMO.

I watched the whole thing too. I think e started at noon yesterday. I think I heard my husband moan about a hundred times. But I ignored him! :) I thought it was great. Loved Penelope's dress. It was gorgeous. But there were lots of others I thought were pretty too. I was happy that Scorsese won too. He is a great director and deserved it. And I thought Ellen was funny. I heard on Imus that he didn't like her and Fox didn't like her. But I really thought she did a good job and I enjoyed the whole thing. Then I turned the remote back over to my husband.

I'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD. Did you ever see Stigmata with Gabriel Byrne and Patricia Arquette? It's a great one, a little bloody though.

I agree, great movie! Yep, little bloody (that doesn't bother me though), but the story was awesome IMO. Some parts were a little scary to me, lol. I'm a big fat baby with scary stuff, lol. I remember when we rented "The Ring" when it first came out on vid, I left & went in another room to watch TV, while hubby sat through it, lol. Too scary for me! lol.

Joan Rivers monologue, opening the red carpet segment was outrageous. What a terrible way to open an otherwise great Oscar event this year, imo.

"Gals" is a loose term for Ellen and Rosie OD.

to me Al Gore's movie and that song were the DUHS of the night... or gimmies for the year (if they did not win the awards that would have been the upset) ....
Glad for Jennifer Hudson, The Depaarted (GREAT MOVIE by the way) and Alan winning from little miss sunshine...he was great in the movie!!

Best mess up of the night belong to Will Smiths son... he was so embarresed, but it was funny and not scripted so that part was cool...

Ellen was classy and funny!! I hope the OSCAR next year goes to Billy Crystal again!!
I think Jay Leno would be a great host though as well, if ever asked!!

let's see...
Rosey? gay - check,
Ellen? gay - check.

me see's a theme.

A waste of time except for a very few exceptions like Forest Whitaker winning and giving a great speech. I can't remember the last time i saw an Oscar nominated movie in the year it came out.
