Live in Houston 1981 : the Escape Tour
Holy fuck that album just abso-fuckin-lutely knocked my socks off. That is what live music should sound like!!!!!

I just got my Survivor in Tokyo (1985) DVD in the mail yesterday and I worship the ground Jimi Jamison walks on, but man that concert left me scratching my ear. He was just sharp a lot of the time and really rough sounding. I prefer Survivor SONGS to Journey, but I'll limit that to Studio recordings. This live Journey album is absolutely freaking me out in its perfection.
Perry's voice sounds like heaven. Song after song after song.
Not to mention the musicianship. Perfection.

I simply cannot believe I've only been into this band a few weeks. I feel like there is so much to get into.
I shelled out $22 for the Journey karaoke CD the other day (go on and laugh, I LOVE to sing!) and I brought it with me to a local watering hole on Saturday night. Both my parents and my sister were there and they keep laughing at my newfound love of Journey. Anyhow I took a stab at "Separate Ways" and yeah, I'm no Perry, but I FELT THE PASSION and I actaully got a standing ovation. That is my very first ever karaoke standing ovation. HAHA My dad was kind of spellbound and he kept asking me later "Who is this Journey??" LOL
So since I got into it a few weeks ago, I've been limiting myself to the Frontiers and Greatest Hits just because I can't freakin' get enough of Separate Ways, Don't Stop Believin' and Send Her My Love. On repeat.
LOL

I think you'll probably find Generations is probably loathed more than loved by most Journey fans (although, it certainly has some fans on this board). Glad to hear you're discovering Journey. Better late than never. The 1981 Houston DVD is definitely Journey at their finest!

Well, John, I was gonna save this for that other place (where we have secret handshakes and drink each other's blood), but since you kinda brought it up...
Arrival does NOT rule!!!! (Sorry Ed...)
My dear friend Joe (Duke 22) gave me a copy of Arrival last weekend, and against my better judgement, I gave it a listen. There were a few decent songs on there, but mostly I found it boring. I definitely heard some 'Perryisms', but I think I heard more of a mild Rod Stewart influence than a Steve Perry influence.
Now, having said that, and once again proving how 'looney' I really am, I think some of the songs on Arrival would have been f*cking awesome had they been performed by Journey with Steve Perry on lead. But, that's just me...
