Velvet Revolver to play in Van Halen's place

Postby Angiekay » Fri Mar 02, 2007 1:38 am

Velvet Revolver has been tapped for Van Halen's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band will perform in Van Halen's place, and singer Scott Weiland and guitarist Slash will speak on Van Halen's behalf. For now, it doesn't look like David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar will join Velvet Revolver onstage, and Michael Anthony hasn't commented yet. It's still unknown whether Eddie and Alex Van Halen will attend the ceremony.

They should tell VH to fuck off. I'm not a fan of the ROR HOF, simply a glorified Hard Rock Cafe IMO. But if a band won't commit to a single member even being there, I would tell them to suck it. What do you think, Ang?

Yes, I agree, although there have always been bands where a member hasn't wanted to be part of the ceremony, including John Fogerty or remember a couple years ago when the members of Traffic wouldn't let Dave Mason play on stage with them? Ego and attitudes. I can't believe for a minute that Sammy and Mikey wouldn't want to get up there and do some jamming. As far as the brothers go, I've about had enough of their attitude as well. Get the f**k over it already. Either you are going to get out there, respect and please your fans, or you're going to just ride into the sunset. This "yes we are, no we're not" crap is getting OLD! They are losing more fans than not.

Agreed, induction should be revoked if this is the way the band is going about it.

If that actually happens, even I will say it's a fucking disgrace.

I have to agree NIG. While I believe that the ROR HOF is nothing more than a joke ( at least that's what it's turned into the past 5 - 10 years!), the fact that the 2 people that put the "Van Halen" in Van Halen are not even planning to show up seems to me to be the nail in the coffin lid!

While a lot of other artists/bands have blown off the ROR HOF as crap, I'd bet my last dollar if they/their band were nominated- they'd be there with bell's on! 8)

I have always enjoyed VH's music. But with all that's gone on the past few years- and especially this past year or so- I almost can't listen anymore. I just get sad while listening. And that's NOT what Rock 'n Roll is about, is it??????

I saw on another board that Velvet Revolver will not play at the HOF if VH is not there. This is purely a rumor, but good for VR if this is true.

The same thing that Keith Richards has to do with the Ronettes or Pearl Jam with REM. They never pick compatable people to induct the others.

Keith Richards and Eddie Vedder have been tapped to be a presenters at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The Rolling Stones guitarist will stand up for the Ronettes, while the Pearl Jam singer will do the honors for R.E.M. They join fellow rockers Velvet Revolver, who will be on hand to make the presentation to Van Halen, and Rage Against The Machine frontman Zach De La Rocha, who will make the presentation to Patti Smith.

Well, it's one thing to "induct"...and another to perform in place of.

I just can't picture VR playing VH tunes. Slash is a good enough player, no doubt...but playing EVH licks? :? I just don't see it. And Scott Weiland?

Geezus, just get the Atomic Punks to do it.

I don't know how accurate this is, but here is what the DJ on KFOX (98.5) in San Jose just said....

She said that All 5 members of VH WILL be at the Hall of Fame. Alex and Eddie have reserved a table for their families.

She also said that they WILL NOT perform. Sammy and Michael want to, but David said something to the affect of not wanting to share the stage with Sammy.

I am not sure how accurate this is, but that's just what Lori Roberts on KFox just said.

In my opinion, the only people with class in that band are Sammy and Michael.
David, Alex and Eddy need to get over themselves.

I love the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I've been there three times, and I think it's amazing how they preserve the memorabilia for the fans. As for the inductees, I've always been a bit skeptical of their picks. But I'm glad they are inducting VH. And if VH doesn't show up, they will not be the first.

Check this out: http://www.thefilthandthefury.co.uk/ TOO FUNNY! The Rock Hall actually put this letter up in the tribute to the Sex Pistols, and the fans LOVED it. Too funny. The Sex Pistols WROTE IT to the museum in lieu of showing up for the ceremony. LOL

I think they should have picked the Atomic Punks to perform for the Van Halen induction. At least we could hear something that sounds like Van Halen. Check them out if you've never heard them:

Just imagine if these guys played at the RRHOF Induction and Dave, Sammy, and Mike got onstage and jammed with them. That would be cool. Of course it would be better if the Van Halens got onstage, but that doesn't look too promising. I'd rather hear the Atomic Punks than frigging Velvet Revolver.

It would be fun to see the Atomic Punks perform, I'd prefer them to VR, absolutely.

I can't imagine who would have thought of VR to perform. :?

I agree. They could have gotten someone alot better than Velvet. They probably need to promote a new album, another crappy offering I am sure.

Metallica would be much more appropriate.

This soap opera changes everyday. Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar both say they will be there. Atleast for now. Maybe Alex will show up and speak on Eddie's behalf. It will be a shame if neither one of the Van Halen's don't show up.
