I was wondering about the evolution of Back Talk, and the MR forums (and any other past or present message board). Have heard bits and pieces here and there. Really I'm curious to know when all these forums sprung up, who are the people that have been around forever, that kind of thing. I realize that Frank was one of the early ones and now runs JF. CJ has been around along time I know as well. Also, when did Dean come onto the scene?
Just looking to get some perspective. Sometimes I get PM's about people and it's assumed I know who they are just because I am known and have a forum.
Drew, if this is out of line, pull the thread because I really don't mean it as a basis for attacking anyone. Just legitimately do not know and am curious.
For the record, I found BT in 2001 and got to see soundcheck in Wilmington, DE because I was a member there. I lurked at MR forever before I finally joined the forums.

You, Liz, are a fool. Best to take your foot out of your mouth now while you can. Tapegate saved this band, like it or not, and yes, I am at the forefront and proud of everything I did. Ross fucking lied. Simple as that.

I told him to stick around and develop a thick skin. He stuck around and started getting into the fray. I posted, "Oh, oh! I've created a monster." He posted back. "No, you just woke a sleeping giant."Who knows where Journey would be today if I had left him sleeping.

Way before the MR forums and the BT forum, there were a few forums about Journey. I've slept a few times since then but the best one I remember was the Skylorde forum that started sometime in the mid 90's. It was really the only forum that wasn't heavily moderated like BT is today. Skylorde's forum was similar to what Mac offers today. The only folks I remember from that forum that are around now are Skylorde, Monker and myself. I'm sure there is more but that is all I can remember.
That's all I know,

Thanks Aaron.
And anyone else that wants to say how they found any of these places - feel free to chime in.

From what I remember, I went from Journey-L to Sky's board...and from there, Sky and I started working on the Journey board....I remember purchasing, setting up and launching the original BT board (I think they're still actually using the same software)....Then back talk took a progressive spiral downward (as well documented here and elsewhere) and I basically said 'fuck it' and stopped posting on journey forums until recently.
IIRC, at the time I gave up on BT...this forum was already setup, but no one really posted here...the only really discussion traffic was over on Andrew's Noticeboard....traffic must've picked up afterwards.

jrnyman28 wrote:So you got Sky's stuff and Steven Lake of course had a great tribute with links and info all around. Monker was a part of the mailing list before this. I know Sony put up a Journey board for TBF in 1995/1996 and Back Talk was a part of journey-the-band.com.
VH1 sprung to life as a place where the fighting REALLY took over. When I joined there it was because what I saw was a a place to openly bash and trash Steve and I felt the need to "defend" Journey and Steve. I learned a LOT during my time at VH1.
Meanwhile there was very little action here. When VH1 closed it seemed all the fighting moved here. It was still only a handful of people though. Some people stoked the fires here and others helped to begin the support of this board. Meanwhile, BT went Nazi and more people came here, making it what we love today. Then Sky and Frank came back.
