You ever heard a cover version of a song that you thought was as good as the original( or better) !? Share with the rest of us!

One of my favorites is Yngwie's version of "Voodoo Chid" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyRdHESZS1Q

I also like Yngwie/Jeff doing "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsF8fhp_EgM
(Keep in mind that Jeff is singing this version, but Mark Boals is lippin to Jeff's voice! )

Sheryl C did a fine job on "The First Cut Is The Deepest," lyrics by Rod Stewart.

Stones, Just My Imagination. The Human Riff on top of his game. (Ain't Too Proud To Beg ain't too bad, either).

Journey's live Voodoo Chile floors me.

ANYthing Van Halen covered on the exquisite Diver Down.

Recently Poison took a horrific song in We're An American Band and actually made it rock.

The Powerstation's Get It On (Andy fekin Taylor allowed to rock as he NEVER did in DD).

I like Skid Row's new cover of The Alarm's Strength a LOT.

Rod Stewart's Cigarette's And Alcohol.

Foreigner's kickass live Not Fade Away.

Styx has a good I Am The Walrus.

Neal and Sammy's "Whiter Shade", of course,
Soft Cell's "Tainted Love" was better than the original.
Wall of Voodoo's cover of "Ring of Fire"
Rise Against's cover of "Any Way You Want it" is great (punk cover)
just the first ones to come to mind... I'm sure I'm forgetting some great ones

Oh yeah! and Jeff's cover of "Save Me" is awesome (as well as most of his Queen stuff)

Hey, Nig! How are you?

I haven't heard it, but if it is Poison, it sucks.

Yeah, there we go. Drums and guitar in that song are badass. Tony Thompson RIP.

Some of my favorite covers:
Ronnie James Dio/Yngwie Malmsteen - Dream On (Aerosmith)
Krokus - American Woman, Stayed Awake All Night (Guess Who)
Molly Hatchet - Dreams I'll Never See (Allman Bros)

Worst cover ever :
The Dixie Chicks murdering "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.

I am good, you?

I agree about the HSAS tune. How could I forget that? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-afckEMU8k

Yep, Tony Thompson was a goddam WEAPON. Hits extremely hard on Get It On.

PS, yes I am guilty of liking Poison. Don Was produced their We're An American Band and he made a big difference too.

Carry On Wayward Son is great, but where is Jeff & why is this guy lipping to him? Thanks for sharing it, I hadn't heard Jeff sing that one. 8)

The VH video for Pretty Woman is funny! :D

One of my favorites is Can't Find My Way Home, by Styx

Not hard to better the original of that tune. But that was a monster hit when they came out with that. Remember, everyone was wondering if they could follow up Shout at the Devil? Which reminds me, they remade Helter Skelter, but I wouldn't say it's better then the original.

Here's a tough one. Which version of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds do you prefer - The Beatles' or Elton John's? I think I may have to go with Elton's.

Agreed, I hate both er, no ALL Helter Skelters including the Overrated 4's, Motley's, U2s', and anybody else who went near that junk.

I roll w/ Reg Dwight's Lucy In The Sky, all the way though it was cool to hear Lennon come on and sing it with him Thanksgiving in MSG as documented on Here And There.

Speaking of Beatles covers, Journey had a good one early on. Anybody? Anyone? Bueler?

U2 remade Everlasting Love. That's another tough one... I like both a lot.

I absolutely love that one! Reminds me a bit of Prince's "Cream",but GIO has more balls to the sound. The drumming does it!

Love JSS doing Purple Rain,Guff doing Journey's I can See It In Your Eyes and Perry covering anything Sam Cooke.

Gotta think of others too when I get some time to maybe find them on Youtube.

Great topic! :)

I'm excellent, nig. very busy. Have you heard Alison Krauss' version of Can't Find My Way Home? Very pretty. Quite different from Blind Faith's (still the best version, imho)

There's not one song on the Def Lippard covers CD that I would rate over the original. Half of those tunes I had never even heard of.

The Shaw/Blades new covers CD sounds great.

I actually enjoyed that CD. However, I hadn't heard most of the songs before, either. If I had, it might have been a different story. A couple of good ones on the Wal-Mart $5 Yeah! part 2 CD or whatever it was called, too, although it pissed me off that I had to buy it separately from the main CD.

Johnny Cash's "Hurt" was excellent, and way better than the original (though I'd bet Cyndy would disagree, lol)
Cash's "In My Life" (Beatles) is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard.

& Jimi Hendrix made "All Along the Watchtower" his own.

Jeff Buckley's "Hallelujah" is amazing (though Cohen's is still my fave version)

Oh, and William Shatner’s "Lucy in the Sky"…
Simply awesome.
