Where is Steve Augeri and is he better??

Postby lukather4prez » Tue Mar 06, 2007 10:31 am

hi gang, I wanted to ask this question as I really want to know. I for one blame the ENTIRE Journey organization for the fukkin B.S. that was "Tape Gate".

The way the acted was B.S. Nothing against JSS I think he's great , he's different, not as melodic as Augeri but strong singer and great showman. I luved Soul SIkUs and RockStar Sntk (both his and steelheart dudes songs) and I liked the show I saw in late July last year but...

I am still an Augeri Fan. I know Rockin' Deano isn't and many arent and this site and board is VERY pro-JSS and even more so pro PErry but, for me I liked the albums SA sang on and most of the songs better than the last 2 Perry cd's and I just wanted to know as a fan if anyone has any knowledge if he's better, singing again, performing or what have you!

I luv the few songs I heard from the debut of Tall Stories and I hope " Stevie" is alive and well and will be putting out some music soon.

Anything on MR. Augeri??

There is a thread over at the General Forum of BT, by someone who did a phone interview with Neal and Ross, which will be in the UK magazine called Classic Rock. Neal made mention that he did speak with Augeri, and Augeri told Neal that he is 50% back vocally.

Here is the link if you want to read the thread.

This is a pro JOURNEY board...that includes appreciation for what Steve Augeri brough to the band during his tenure. Arrival is an amzing record...love it.
I'm sure there will be news soon.

As for Jeff not being as melodic a vocalist - WOWSERS! You need to do some research into JSS my friend. Soul and melody oozing from every pore.

Right...and if this site IS "anti cheating", then why the hell aren't you boycoting the whole band? It's really amazing to me the way some seem to put the whole tape gate thing at Steve A's feet...what- the rest of the band just didn't know? They were in the dark, while Steve A and the sound guys covertly pulled off this elaborate charade? Hardly...if you're gonna call yourself anti cheating, then spread blame all the way around.
I don't know...I've kept quiet and read what folks have posted over the past 12 months or so on this, and the thing that bothers me is more than anything is that I feel the band AND many of the fans pushed Augeri under the bus when this thing happened. Hell, the guy was in a bind, and was trying to keep his gig. Could any of us claim to have so much integrity that we wouldn't do the same thing if confronted with that dilemma? I don't know...I'd like to think I wouldn't but I can't swear to it, and if you're honest, I think you'd agree. But above all, to say that the rest of the organization was blameless in all of this is naive and more than a bit unfair. None of this went without the approval of Neal and Jon, you can bet your ass on that. And yet strangely, I 've never heard anyone calling for their heads.

I don't mean to sound inflamatory. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm really just posing some questions. Hell, I like the band better with Soto, and I think when they do get around to recording again, it's gonna rock my ass off- much more so than any of their post-Perry work.
But what the hell do I know? I still think Perry's gonna come back before it's all said and done...

I agree. I have been basically fighting with someone on a yahoo group about their lack of really doing their homework on JSS. Once they see "Metal", it is all over for them. They want to know nothing about Jeff after seeing that ! :D

Dude, we are trying to state the obvious, without really saying the obvious. Jesus Christ, Do we have to spell it out for you? The reason he gets the blame, is because he was the weakest link, the only weak link, and he could have stopped the train from moving, before it derailed.

I don't know...I've kept quiet and read what folks have posted over the past 12 months or so on this, and the thing that bothers me is more than anything is that I feel the band AND many of the fans pushed Augeri under the bus when this thing happened. YES.
I can say I would NEVER pull this shit. Never. And Jeff is on record saying he would never do it either. Last time I checked, Mr. Perry never faked his way to a undeserved paycheck.

I don't mean to sound inflamatory. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm really just posing some questions. Hell, I like the band better with Soto, and I think when they do get around to recording again, it's gonna rock my ass off- much more so than any of their post-Perry work.

The stop bitching about the ten fold improvements of this band.

I still think Perry's gonna come back before it's all said and done...

That my friend is a dream. Kim Jung Il has a better chance of fucking Shania Twain in Switzerland than Steve perry coming back to Journey, sadly.

PLEASE Andrew. This board has never been appreciative of Augeri and has a well known reputation for rumor-starting and Augeri hating. It has CONSISTENTLY thrashed Augeri at every chance. Started pure rumor that is STILL unproven. And thus, I would also say it is also not really pro-Journey. It HAS proven to be pro-JSS. I like JSS AND I think it was a good decision on the band's part to move on as Augeri's voice was toast after 8 years. I just think if you look at this MESSAGE BOARD (NOT you or your website information which has always been very fair and absolutely PRO-Journey) overall and you are being TRULY honest, it is far from pro-Journey and very far from appreciative of Augeri's 8 years with the band. Let's be honest.....

Yes - I'm sure you're right, Deano. But Neal is the most senior musician in the organisation - and therefore must take some of the responsibility.

100% wrong, again.

Go research the last 4 years. Everyone here, save the loons, were ALL supportive of Steve Augeri, and I hasten to add I was more vocal in support of SA than anyone here.

Absolute nonsense. This board was fiercely pro-Augeri before Tapegate. If anything the one singer who has consistently received most flak is Steve Perry.

Negative. Although a lot of decisions go higher than 'band-level', Friga wields WAY more power
in this band than most give him credit for.

And it's very easy to believe that Neal and Jon weren't aware of the extent Elson was
'supporting' Augeri. Those IEMs aren't pumping out what we here thru the PAs.
I wouldn't be surprised if all the guys on stage, except Augeri, had Augeri's vox
muted in thier IEMs and were just catching what they could from the FOH PAs...
Probably thought things were going pretty well if that was the case

Stepping out of lurk mode here. I'm sure there are people here who know more than others. There is also something for being said for having the decency to let something go instead of pounding one's chest acting as if their opinion is the only one worth merit. Especially when those pounding their chests the loudest are also guilty of...perpetuating myth for their own accord.

That being said I find it equally sad that there is so much button pushing going on.

Peace to all
