Led Zeppelin - 'Presence'.

Primal. Natural. Lunar. Powerful.

My AOTW completely blows me away. Brother Firetribe "False Metal."

I've listened to a ton of melodic rock bands since discovering the melrock site in '98. While there've been a few good bands, there was also a lot of clutter. Average stuff...horrible comeback tries...experimentations gone wrong.

That said, Brother Firetribe is probably THE best old-style hard rock album I've heard in about 6 years. The guitars are crunchy, the vocals are over-the-top, and more importantly, they're not afraid to use a keyboard. (Are you listening Joey Tempest and Europe?) If long-established artists need a little inspiration, look no further than Brother Firetribe.

In memory of Brad Delp, my AOTW: Boston, the first album.

The first song off the album, More Than A Feeling, sums it all up.
"Pray, and pass the ammunition!"

My AOTW: Delain "Lucidity"

In an alternate reality where Evanescence fails miserably and commercial goth never breaks through, Delain might've been the follow-up to Within Temptation's "Mother Earth" A mixed affair of goth, melodic rock, grunts, keyboards, and female vocals. Possibly one of the better releases of 2006 and I regret waiting this long to acquire a copy.

A world without WT 'The Silent Force?' Makes me shudder thinking about it. But Delain is still a solid effort.

The Snakes - Once Bitten. It would have been a great Whitesnake record, one of their best actually. It's a great album anyway, Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden can be very proud of this one.

 I can't exactly call "Snakes and Arrows" by Rush my AOTW because it hasn't been released yet, and the single, "Far Cry", isn't an album even though it's the ONLY thing I've been listening to on the ol' iPod.

So, I've got to go with "Far Cry" as my SOTW (Single of the Week)

Hopefully the production of the new one doesn't have the ability to burn out subwoofers, leaving only a vapor trail in its wake...

Silent Force - Walk The Earth. The first three songs are awesome, and I'm getting to like the other songs better. Not that they are bad or anything; first time I played the CD they just sounded somewhat pale after songs 1-3.

I should say, the acoustic guitar with keys part on Walk The Earth sounded very familiar... have been looking where Michael Schenker and Phil Mogg got credited for inspiration, but haven't found any reference yet. :?

I have two AOTWs, one to make up for last week, and one for this coming week.

Last weeks: Slamer 'Nowhere Land.' I wasn't a big fan of Seventh Key, and so it was real nice to finally hear a worthy follow-up to Steelhouse Lane.

This weeks: Sirenia 'Nine Destinies and a Downfall.' Great female vocals. Very commercial. Grunts in moderation...fits perfectly between Lacuna Coil and After Forever.

Yeah this week I'm gonna go with Genesis - 'Turn it on again' the best of....I put it on the other day with 2 or 3 other discs on shuffle and I was surprised at how many tunes I really liked.

This week's AOTW (and a bit of a surprise for me...) ...Masterplan "MKII." I had always felt Uli Kursch and Jorn Lande were the engines behind Masterplan, and I thought for sure that their departure would result in disaster. But surprisingly, the band held their own, and Mike Dimeo came pretty damn close to filling Jorn's shoes at the vox.

Awful album cover though. Too generic. What happened to the artist who did the first two album covers?
