Have you looked at the Billboard charts lately? Shitty is an understatement.

True. But that's teenyboppers. I figured the folks who vote for AI contestants are kinda like our age group.

Here is the video of the performance and the judge’s comments. I don’t think this guy sounds anything like Steve Perry, I was watching with my mom and brother and when he said that they both looked at me and I said: “hell no!”

The sound is bad you have to turn up your speakers.

My comments:

Watch this one - John Waite's "Missing You":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5fCxR8_ ... ed&search=

He hits a certain "tonality" in the phrase "Through my frozen heart tonight..." on the word "my":

Very "rounded" in tone; sounded like "mah" - which, to my ears, was kind of "perryesque".

....but then it fell apart for me: He's gotta work on his pronounciation:

Vocals "phonetically spelled out" on the phrase: "I hear your name....in certain circles..."

Should "read" like this:
"I hear your name....in sehtain sehcles..."

HIS sounded like:
"I hear your name....in surrtain surrcles..."

Superfar from Perry. After hearing the guy,Jon Secada came in my mind as a comparison, although my ears are tired right now.

Secada has an extra-ball in his voice, tho. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUWEsox8yRU

I can't even get that close to comparing him to Perry.

Forget about his pronunciation, he needs to stop pushing so hard as he bridges up to the high register. When he gets there, he sounds good, but his "middle" voice isn't a smooth transition up to to head at all. & he ends up pushing too much air out, shouting, & hitting those notes sharp, as a result.

My husband says they need a 4th chair on AI for me & my criticisms :-)

I don't think it was a dig at Perry at all, only the fact that the guy has a big range like SP.

Um no sorry. The dawg specifically said Phil did NOT have a lot of range & his low register was very poor. So u misunderstood that sorry. He was comparing Phil's high register to Perry's.

Um Yeah, that's what he said!Watch for yourself

RJ talks about Phil having all of this range likePerry ,but Phil's lower register blows.

ohsherrie wrote:I saw it Sis. It hit me wrong too. I think Randy meant it as a complement to the kid on the way he could soar up to those long high notes, but those notes are all that kid had. He was nothing at all like Perry. They've had other singers on there in past seasons who did a lot better job on the soaring high notes than this kid did while also doing a good job on the rest of the song and deserved a comparison like that a lot more.

Randy seems to be mentioning his short tenure with Journey more lately. I wonder what's up with that dawg?

His constant mentioning of Perry/Journey makes the rumors regarding him co-producing Perry's new effort even MORE interesting.

IF you listened to what Randy said in regards to the contestant on AI....the first thing he commented on was how "not so good" his lower register was compared to his higher register. The song he sang started out on a lower register, which IMHO, he did not sound good at all; he then went into a higher register and hit the notes better. I believe Randy was only comparing him to how Steve Perry gracefully hit those higher notes and was comfortable with it and in in no way was comparing the talent.

There would have been no comparison....obviously.... 8) :D

Peace~

Carol I am with you. This show is only serious in the last few weeks. Other than that it is conflict of interest. Here you have Simon being a judge with an interest in profits. So he becomes outrageous to sell more commercials for $$$$$. The show is a train wreck & for some reason people in this country go for that and it has little to do with music until the end. Then America votes and shows how musically inept they are. Anyone ever see Ace Young on You Tube singing Dream On. I have NEVER seen anyone attempt Steven Tyler and if only Chris Daugherty could have shut up on it.......... Stay tuned for Ace. If the album he is writing and the backers I read that are behind him, he has it made. Daugherty reminds me somewhat of 38Special so he will do fine.

Considering Perry claims to have either never seen AI or doesn't watch it, I'd say he won't be on anytime soon, but who knows. People are sneaky sometimes. I'm rather annoyed at the amount of times Randy pulls the When I was in Journey card, or even many, I've played with Whitney and Mariah dawg... I'm pretty sure Randy has mentioned Journey or Perry on more AI shows than he actually played in concert with them.
