OT - Brad Delp of Boston found dead

I want to tell two Boston stories.

Back in 1976 I was around 8 years old or so. My parents took my brother and I to a party at my aunt and uncles house and we where listening to the first Boston album on 8 track. Some person we didn't know says "Hey listen to that.... That's why we are here, and they are there, but we can still hear it here" It turned out to be my first encounter with someone that was high as a kite. :lol:

I was introduced to Boston as a child because my sister who is 7 years older than me was a huge fan. I can remember listening to "More Than A Feeling" and "Rock and Roll Band". Then Boston took a bit of a hiatus and I'll never forget thinking where is that wonderful band that I grew up with. Then they roared back onto the charts with a little hit called "Amanda". I was in-love with Amanda the first time I heard it. Then they added Fran Cosmo and boy did he and Brad compliment each other with their high notes. Boston was/is my all-time classic rock band and I will miss Brad very much. They were very much a part of my growing up and I hope to pass their music on to my own child.

Kind of ironic but when I was pregnant and found out I was having a girl, I kind of passed the name "Amanda" by my husband. Of course, he said no that he didn't like the name (no offense to anyone who's child is named that). My friend's daughter is named Amanda and she will always be a reminder of a band that I love.

Of course, Wikipedia is already updated. I thought this was interesting and sad to note that he and his fiancee were going to be married later this year...

Later life

Delp had been a vegetarian for over thirty years and has contributed to a number of charitable causes. Recently, this year, Brad proposed to his long time love Pamela Sullivan. The two of them were set to be married during a two day break in Boston's 2007 summer tour.

Delp was found dead in his home in Atkinson, NH on March 9, 2007. The cause of death is unknown at this time. He was 55. On March 9th, 2007, the band's official web site was taken down and replaced with the simple statement: "We've just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

My wife is such a fan that she even liked Corporate America. "You Gave Up On Love" is one of our favorite basement karoake pleasures.

I was fortunate enough to see Boston 4 times - starting with the 3rd Stage Tour, then Walk On, and then twice with my wife on the Corporate America tour.

Oh my God. That is awful. Boston has always been one of my top four or five bands and I was hoping to see them this summer. I never got to see them live and now I'll regret that forever. Damn! One of the best voices in rock has been silenced.

I feel fortunate to have seen them on the last tour. I had never seen them before and since I graduated in 1977, it was a long time coming before I saw them. Just SO GLAD I saw them before this happened. I wasn't going to go see them last tour as my wife wasn't interested in going and I rarely go alone to shows. I found a single ticket in row 13 at the Verizon in NH. Must have been fate that led me there to see them before it was too late. :cry:

last time i saw boston was at alpine valley, wisconsin. the infamous place that it is. my husband drank so much, that i had the opprotunity to practice
some old fashioned nursing skills, and change my husband's clothes by rolling him around on the bed like a gomer while he remained comatose.
of course, this was all done in front of all of his friends. :oops:

The last (and maybe?) final show I have in my collection is from 11/13/06 at Symphony Hall in Boston. It was a tribute show in honor of Doug Flutie and Fran Cosmo is not with them, so it is ALL Brad.

I will give it a spin and share some of it if that is ok. Just from 4 months ago.

Quite sad. I pray that God draws Brad's family close and comforts them.

I fell into the whole "Why Knock Rock?" thing of the early 70's. gave all my albums away, Hendrix, Joplin, Doors, Cream-the works. swore off the R & R forever.

Until, the book says Carlos Santana is really a code name for Satan and they were burning Barry Manilow records.

I heard Boston for the 1st time - probably years after they got going- while sitting in my new husband's farm pickup, waiting for him to come out of the feed store. I turned that radio up all way and just drank it in. I can hear it like it was yesterday.

And my maiden name was Boston so I always felt a special attachment.

RIP dear Brad. Thanks for giving me back my heart and soul.

One of my favorite Boston tracks. Thanks. I got to hear them do this one at the '04 show. The lights at the front of the stage lowered and formed what looked like the back of a spaceship about ready to take off. They ascended again as the final chords of "A New World" faded and "To Be a Man" began. Great moment.

I am just floored. Completely stunned. I remember the first time I heard his voice. It was when More Than a Feeling came out and I remember thinking "it just doesn't get much better than this." Well, it doesn't. Rest In Peace Brad. You will be missed.

I'm one of the fortunate. I saw them on Julu18th 2004 on the date my fiance was suppose to give birth. I will never forget Brad, I'm pretty shaken' up. Feels like part of my childhood died. He will never be forgoten.

I usually just lurk and read, but I felt compelled to post tonight. I met Brad in Nashville, Tennessee in the summer of 2004. My best friend was the guy that drew the cover for the "Corporate America" CD so we got backstage passes for the show as well as for the following show back home in Atlanta. Brad stayed and talked with us for over an hour each night about anything we could think of until the tour bus driver actually had to drag him to the bus. I remember in Atlanta he laughed at the driver and told us that he would see us next time and we could continue our discussion. We were looking forward to holding him to that this summer. He was just the nicest, most down to earth celebrity I had ever met and though I only talked with him on those two nights, tonight I feel like I lost a friend. I have been told that Jeff Scott Soto is the same type of guy and I look forward to one day maybe meeting him and the rest of Journey, but tonight is about Boston, Brad Delp & the amazing vocal legacy left by this awesome human being.

So here's to you Brad...Cheers and Godspeed.

This is like a bad dream...I woke up this morning and still couldn't believe it.

I grew up with this music,it feels like a part of me has just died.

That page on Boston's official site is just... :cry:
