Radioactive-taken 2005 ......this is a who's who of westcoast AOR,Bobby Kimball,Fergie Frederiksen,Mikael Erlandsson, Neal schon, yngwie malmsteen(his solo is very good on the song shattered, that means beshad will have to listen to this you yngwie groupie you!!)and the best song on the cd is Carry on with Neal schon doing a voice box solo in the begining of the song. The cd isnt killer , but if you like westcoast AOR or your a Neal schon freak(yes this means you!!! dont shake your head ,no.You know you will get this cd , you would collect Neals toenails if there was anyway to get them) Yes this cd is worth a listen Image

Butchering the beatles 2006 ...........this cd is horrible, not worth paying for thats for sure despite that there are 3 songs that were reasonably done well.

1.magical mystery tour--JSS(overblown pompous guitar solo from yngwie almost ruins this song)

2.day tripper-tommy shaw...nice version

3.drive my car--Kip winger..nice as well

otherwise-----a crappy release Image

Great picks and reviews Yulog!

I agree on Sunstorm, Danny Vaughn, Place Vendome, Last Autumn's Dream, Daughtry, Jorn, Shaw Blades, and Harem Scarem.

Just got Pride of Lions and Pink Cream 69 but haven't listened yet.

Keep up your great reviews!

Dante fox-under the seven skies 2007 ........okay its very difficult to find a rock cd where you like the voice of the female lead--for some reason its is very rare to find a womans voice that goes well with rock songs, by far the wilson sisters from heart are untouchable at being the best at this feat .

Well this cd has a female lead and while it isnt the wilson sisters this girl can sing, i found half the songs on this cd to be pretty good(melodic rock, nice guitar solos etc.) it seems the odd number songs--1,3,5,7, seem to be more melodic and actually i thought the best on the cd.

Song 10 is a 9 min song that initially i thought would be an instrumental song ,which changed directions, then sort of went to an evanescence feel, then became its own melodic rock song with several changes throughout the 9mins plus -its actually a very good song. This cd is not going to hit you like a heart cd--you may have to take a few listens, but if your looking to listen to a female fronted band that has some good content --this is worth listening to Image

John Mayer-continuum 2006 .......this is the first cd by this guy i've listened to, the cd is blues influenced --the songs are good ,nothing heavy --but its the type of cd you could play at a get together with friends in the background and it wouldn't upset anyone(thats the best way i can describe it). On my first listen the first 7 songs sounded good ,10,11,12 also were good songs, again this is a light album but its pretty goodImage

Tom Petty-highway companion 2006 .....okay first off i only have tom petty's greatest hits(i like it but not a huge fan)This cd follows his formula and tradition of song writing with a very acoustic cd. There are several songs on here that i could see being played on the radio back in the 80-90's, its another light album but again there is good stuff on here(nothing tremendous). If your a Petty fan, this would be a cd to get, if your not, it not good enough to bring in someone that never got into him.Still its a pretty good cd

Melodicrock-vol 3 2006 .............A chance to review a "Wombat productions"---will it be sour or will it be sweet?

I will say there were a couple of surprises on this cd some songs that i thought would have been a automatic like didnt work out for me but also the opposite happened as well on this cd.

Okay 18 songs on this compilation of upcoming songs ,rare releases ,japan bonus tracks etc., i liked 10 of the 18 songs--that being said its highly recommended for the reason that it gives you a taste of many good bands that are out there--my best picks are below in no particular order

brother firetribe
novak
tall stories
danny vaughn
ted poley
stereo fallout
redrum
radioactive
rob moratti
urban tale

There is a harem scarem song on here that usually i would have expected i would have liked , but oddly i didnt find it to be one of there better songs, still there is plenty of good songs on this cd. The verdict is, this is a "SWEET" cd.

Not to steal your thunder, LogJam, but I
HIGHLY reccomend you and everyone else checking
out Anberlin's last 2 albums - Cities and Never Take Friendship Personal.

New band with a modern sound but VERY melodic, big hooks and
big harmonies! I'd listened to a few tracks before but,
at Drew's insistence, I got both of these albums and they
are KILLER :D

Here are 2 videos:

"Paperthin Hymn" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2exE-td4F3k

"A Day Late" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmehOnmx1GU

Carl, your not stealing my thunder, would be happy if people put up more stuff like you did--always looking for more music.

Im not too big into modern music but i'll give this a listen(Carl , you seem to be into a lot of the newer bands maybe you could put up what you think is the best or worst of that genre. I dont have many of the newer bands in my pile of cds to listen to, and it would give people here more of an idea whats good and what to stay away from.Image

Riot-army of one 2006 ........i was told this was a melodic-hard rock cd. Personally i found more songs to be like speed metal(well maybe the drums anyway) I found 2 good melodic songs on the cd ,songs 2 and 12 There were some other potentially good songs that were ruined by the drummer with that speed metal type of drumming which wasnt needed and took away from this cd.Overall i couldnt recomend this cd

Goo goo dolls-let love in.......let me say right off , i'm not big into the newer bands i think there is way to many bands that sound the same. That being said this cd does have some good songs on it--nothing tremendous but some easily listening stuff my guess is that if you like the GGD's this will be okay but if not this cd may not grab alot of people from this board-------i would be on the fence on this one.

I love the Goo Goo Dolls Yulog! They aren't too new though! They technically formed in 1986 and had some hits through the 90's! Their album from 98 is one of my favorites!

Gothard-domino effect 2007 ...........This isnt out yet, i think next month. They have changed the sound a bit on this cd its a bit darker, moodier but an excellent album, i give them credit for not sticking to the same thing each album(playing it safe)and i say this and would prefer albums more like what they have done before this cd, still this cd really is a good cd--on first listen i liked all but 2 songs. relistening to those 2 songs i liked 1 of the 2.

If you like Gothard--its a different cd but still a must have. If you have never heard them ,this cd is on the heavier melodic side(sometimes people compare the singers voice to that of the scorpions singer, the music is quite different)I would suggest listening to clips first --if you like the voice, your going to like this cd, the band and the music.Image

Brett walker--spirit junky 2007 Okay this i believe has been released in europe but im not sure if it has here in the states yet. Simply put ,this is a great cd! its an acoustic AOR dream--the harmonies and music are top notch--i dont know why this guy isnt huge --- a great smooth voice, this cd is fantastic!!

Stan bush--in my life 2007.......not sure this is out yet--should be soon if it isn't yet. this cd is not bad, theres nothing heavy on here more of a straight ahead Aor cd. I liked half of the cd on first listen--if you like Stan bush (i liked this one more than some of his past ones) could be a good one to get

If you havent heard of him try out some sound samples before getting it, overall a decent cdImage

I just got a pre-release of this. You are right, if you like Steve Lee's voice you will like this new cd. A whole new mood from a great band. Many thanks to Andrew for making some older songs available on MR-X and introducing me to them.

Night Ranger-hole in the sun 2007...This is a tough one i have always loved Night rangers songs in the past. I expect when they put an album out it will be full of blazing guitars , great harmonies, and catchy hooks. This cd as well as the last has departed from that in some ways, I found half the songs on this cd to be very good , the others had good parts in the song but lacked that catchy appeal that would bring you into their songs. I found them to be heavier songs but not necessarily heavy with guitar solos-if that makes sense, still this is a good cd and may take a couple of spins to get a good feel for the overall message from this cd.

Best songs:
whatever happened
there is life
fool in my life
revelation 4am
wrap it up
being

Pink cream 69-in10sity 2007.......i have listened to past cds by this band and didnt get in to them basically because of a lack of a hook to their songs--its heavy rock and musically sounded good but just didnt grab me, that being said this cd has made a drastic change for the better by bringing in hooks and the singer softened his voice in areas which made for better music. I would have to say i thought the first half of the cd was the best as they do revert back toward there old style in the latter half of the cd.Not a bad idea for them ,allows both old and new fans to enjoy the cd. Best songs for me upon first listen are:

no way out
crossfire
i'm not afraid
a new religion
out of this world
wanna hear you rock

This is heavy rock! but i would say this is this bands best cd so farImage

Wetton /Downes--IconII rubicon 2006.....Another good cd from Asia bandmates Wetton /downes.There are moments on the cd that sound very reminescent of ASIA if you are a fan of Asia or wetton ,this is another good cd. Best songs were the first 4 and the last 4 on this cd

Thunder--Robert johnsons tombstone 2006....Another solid release from this band, on first listen i liked 7 of the 11 songs-people at times have descibed the singers voice as sounding like Paul Rodgers(maybe a touch like and not as noticable on this cd) Just a straight ahead rock and roll cd. Recommended

Cornerstone-two tales of one tomorrow 2007....UGH!!!! If you are a serious Journey fan ,i'd be hard pressed to think any of you would like this cd.Its dark, gloomy ,hookless and gets worse as it gets closer to the end of the cd.

I must say this is not in the same genre of music as most that i've gone thru, my guess is people who might like this cd still live at home with there parents, wear a lot of black, have painted there room black, own alot of black lights and furry posters, collect gargoyles and swords from QVC--well you get the picture.Image

Joe lynn turner-second hand life 2007... This will be out next month. The first song is just great and had me thinking i was going to be another killer album. This would not be the case though , i did find some good songs on here but none that were as good as the first song still i believe that joe lynn turner fans as well as rainbow fans would like this cd as i hear both of these influences on this cd.

Best songs:
love is life
second hand life
blood red sky
over the top
cruel

I'd have to say overall i'm on the fence with this one ,maybe a couple more listens might bring me over.

The ladder--sacred 2007...This one isnt out yet ,i believe it comes out in about a month. lets give the good first. There are some good songs on this cd.

It's a straight ahead AOR cd, initially it reminded me of something , i couldnt quite figure out what(it just seemed i heard some of these songs before)then i started to get a backstreet boys(the most recent cd) feel on certain songs especially song 3. I continued to listen,I found the middle of the cd had the best to offer, songs 3-7.

I got the feeling of familiar throughout the cd so i continued to listen and then song 10, "mean streets"( this song opens with an obvious rip off of Seal's "crazy", how embarassing!) the song itself wasn't one of the better ones on the cd. Personally i feel, if you have one song on your cd that touches on another person/groups hit its not good but if you have more than one its called RAP.

I didnt research the other familiar song(probably for fear i would catch another copied piece) That being said i did like 6 of the songs on this cd(could be because i liked them before when they came out by the original artist--i just need to stop, i could do this all day)

So i guess the cd does have some good music, you may find yourself saying "hey this sounds like......". For this reason i sit on the fence with this one(if i get a chance to research this i will edit my post later with any other findings)

Zion--Zion 2006...i was hoping for so much more on this cd.The production is horrible, sound is just plain bad throughout and its just not his best stuff. still i found 7 songs on here that i like(i dont know why but i did)---i cant recommend buying this its that bad in sound, but give it a listen especially if your a Curci fan and see if you can go away without still liking some of these songs.Image

Decoy-call of the wild 2007 I believe this comes out next month and is not in the same genre as most music that i've put up here, this is a much heavier cd.Crunchy guitars, heavier sound , at moments it reminds me almost of tony harnell-the voice register is that high, there is some real good stuff on here but again if you dont like heavier stuff this wouldnt be for you. Best songs:

Call of the wild
Heavy metal thunder
make a stand
forever and ever
the real deal
Peace of mind
If you need to fix for a heavier sound check this cd out.Image

Winger-Demo anthology 2007(out today) Two cds full of demo's from the first 3 cds which shows how the songs initially started out, some sound very similar some have some interesting twists that i didnt expect to hear. The big kicker is there are 9 songs that never made it to any of their cds ,and they sound great . I can only imagine how great they would have been if they would have completed these and released them(i personally wish they would go back and do so).

If you are a Winger fan this is a must ,some great unreleased music on this cd. Image
