I am pretty certain it wont be, Jeff will naturally bring in his own influences and having looked at his myspace page the bands he says he is influenced by include living colour, extreme, seal, prince, terence trent derby!!??? yuk, hated all these bands and their music.
All very very different to journey and journey style music!

And talking about extreme I went to see them live years ago when Hardline supported them, god it was the most boring band I have ever seen!!! Hardline were superb and stole the show IMO , what happened to that joey gioelli and that amazing voice???

Nope. Can only speculate. We'll have to wait and see. I know Jeff is a good writer so it's going to be interesting. Can he bring the studio magic back? Pretty tall order... :D

Have you listened to Terence Trent Derby?? His voice is very similar to Steve Parry's... albeit in a slightly lower register.... TTD was in turn influenced by Sam Cooke...the same Sam Cooke as influenced Mr Perry...its all relevant Milly !!

Mills,

There are some pretty strong personalities here with a lot of passion which makes this place pretty cool. JSS reads and post here a lot which is also very cool. However, the majority thinks JSS's is a great fit Journey and that's cool, more power to them. I fall in the minority so just get prepared to take shit for it if you're in the minority too.

I can't speak for all on age but I'm getting up there at a whopping 40. :)

If you're new to the whole Journey thing, do yourself a favor and pick up the Valentine CD and figure out who Hugo is. If you don't already know Hugo you'll be a happy camper.

L8r,

Aaron

Well said Aaron! Why is it anyone on here that doesnt think JSS is the bees kness is shot down in flames? We all have our opinions and dont need some cantankerous hot headed moron flying into a rage about it!!

PS Im just wondering what is the average age of the people on this board? I felt like a youngster at the journey gig last week and im 34! I expected to see a lot of guys in their 50's maybe but thought we'd see plenty younger too

Sounds like you've finally figured it out Rox, congrats!

JourneyRox wrote:Jeff's not a melodic singer b/c he doesn't sing in his high register ALL the time? I guess that leaves only Perry & Lou Gramm as this person's definition of "melodic" then b/c no one else I can think of sang most songs in the high register. That definition even blows Stevie Nicks out. She sang a bit too low.

Damn, I have misunderstood melodic all my life. I am so depressed now. Should I go jump in the ocean?

Hi Aaron definately not new to journey just to this web board!! I am very familiar with Hugo, met him twice at THE GODS , got some cool photos of the man! Got all his solo stuff and open skies, he's great but not as great as steve perry!
40 aint that old! but at the gig in mcr last week a vast majority were looking like they were in their 60's!! scary or maybe they had all had hard lives!!

Speak for yourself, kid. Everyone will have their favorite incarnations of Journey. Mine happens to be the Perry era and now Soto. Jeff brings back the fucking excitement of a Journey concert that was severly lacking, to me, when Augeri was aboard. Jeff brought back the excitment for me for my favorite band.

Why don't you just admit you are a Loon...........

Mills,

I must now say that you really suck! You've seen him live singing his own stuff, I'm very jealous. If Valentine doesn't do any shows state side, I'll be at Firefest in October to watch what you've already seen. As a matter of fact, I'm watching those two Gods shows on DVD right now thanks to a very cool person on this board.

As far as Hugo goes, I'm betting he's a shitload better now than Perry is. ;)

Cheers,

Aaron

Hugo sings in a falsetto or some kind of head voice. He's got no power. Jeremey sings the stuff way better in my opinion. I've only seen each of them on YouTube, so that's what I have to go by. Hugo is kinda creepy to me with his mimicry. Jeremey just sings the music, and I can respect that.

Perry is and always will be better than Hugo.

Did you just pick which bands out of his list would support your theory?

This is what I cut and paste from his site
Van Halen, Journey, Queen, Extreme, Paulo Mendonça, Living Colour, Prince, Terence Trent D'Arby (Sananda Maitreya), Sam Cooke, Maroon 5, Nikka Costa, Seal

Yes some of the people you mentioned.. but Journey and Queen at the top.. Don't only put what will support your opinion - to be fair - put it all in.

Opinions vary bro but I understand where you're coming from. Jeremey is good too, no question about that. Hugo has demonstrated the ability to write his own original stuff which to me sets him apart. If you haven't heard Hugo's original stuff, let me know and I'll fire you a good example.

Don't you think Perry sang most of the time in head voice? I'm betting so. I'm not sure what you mean about the mimicry but he freaks me out doing that Perry clone thing. He should find his own persona for sure.

Funk pop crap? hrmm.. If you think that bands such as Queen, Living Colour are the ones that ruined your music you are mistaken. And what music wouldyou be refering too? Bands such as Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins are what changed 80's and early 90's music into a totally new direction.

Agree with your view entirely... Hugo's voice comes from the throat... Jeremey's from the chest.... its about projection...and J does it to perfection!

Aaron, I respect your opinion. You have a right to it and anyone is allowed to like who they like. Hugo is good at imitatiing Perry, but it's just an imitation. To me, it's like a movie set, there doesn't seem to be any substance behind the facade.

IMO Jeremey blows him away.

As for Journey, Jeff is their man and I'm lovin' what he's bringin'. Nobody will ever really replace Perry, but with Jeff we can love our Journey and our favorite tribute band. :D
