Don't mistake it with GHL which has songs from the 6th AND 7th.

Dude, GHL sucks, and oh by the way, was recorded 2 years after the 1981 show in Houston, Texas.

Not ALL of it, tool.
It's a hodgepodge of the ESC4P3 and Frontiers tours and the ESC4P3 tracks on it came from 11/6 and 11/7 Houston.

If you hadn't thrown GHL out you'd know this.

I threw out Arrival, 13 and Gens...I still have GHL. That might be the worst ever sounding Live record.

Deano, I agree, I was there Friday night for the show and the taping.....the Summit was absolutly electric all night and I feel even more lucky that I have a perfect, digital copy of the whole thing thanks to Espee......It was also my very first Journey concert too, good choice, huh?..... :D

Every live show I've gone to or heard was NEVER the same vocally, and before you rip me a new one, by that, I mean you can be singing along with him and think he's going one way with it and totally goes another and blows socks off. THAT is what I've missed since he's been gone. You never knew if he would sing the song one certain way. It kept the music spontaneous. Neal always improvises and for the record, he is a guitar GOD. Totally unnoticed by the media, but he is a legend.

That's what made Perry a head or two above everyone else. As far as Neal being unnoticed, I guess that depends on where you get your news from. He's heralded, but like you, I think not nearly enough. This has been posted before, but take a look and see what a true musician can do. This is nowhere near his material, but IMO steals the fucking show.

Thank you for the link! And by no media attention, I meant all of the truly good guitar players know who he is, but the average joe, when asked who the best guitar players are, usually say Eddie Van Halen. He's good too, but IMO Neil is up there with Hendrix. I just wish the media would recognize and make him the god he is.

Dallas was after Houston, on 11/7. Not the day before.

Houston was 11/5 and 11/6. The filming was done on the 6th.
GHL has song from these two shows. Not Dallas.

Yep, sure was. Brain fart.

The filming was done all on one day, but the sound recording was done in two days. Perry used vocals from both days to get the best backing vocals possible for the DVD. Or so I read.

I am almost positive Perry said that the BGV for the CD were recorded in a mobile studio on the road after the shows for the MTV broadcast. What you are hearing on the Escape DVD isn't necessarily exactly what the audiences heard on that given night. The Pro Tooled, remixed, and remastered results, however, are stunning.

They do sound AWFULLY fat, J.

Sounds like there are like 3 Rosses, 3 Neals, 3 Cains and maybe another Perry or 6 all singing BG on the DVD.

I've NO problem with that at all, either.

Absolutely not. It would have been disappointing had they NOT sounded that huge. The rerecorded BGV tracks were in the original MTV special, but the remastering process helped out tremendously in thickening and compressing those tracks for the DVD.

i'm not a movie buff, so i don't have a fancy home theatre set up, but this dvd alone makes me want to get a 5.1 surround sound system. anyone got any recommendations? i've got JBL 120ti's & am considering one of the intimus concert set ups from aperion.

If you want to drop a grand or so, and want huge sound without taking up much space, I've been VERY impressed by the Bose systems. The only problem I see is it's integrated DVD and amplifier, but the reliability on that brand is also very high.

I prefer the pcm stereo mix.
I must have bad surround it's always distractingly echoy.

Those JBL's are great speakers.

I would keep those as your two fronts and add to them.

I bought a Sony 6.1 system, seperate 800w AV amp (100w per box and 200w sub) 2 x HDMI sockets on the back, huge sub, really discreet from a euro website £250 (GBP), so probably 400 USD? - must be available in the US. First thing I played on set up was the 2001 vegas DVD, it sounded immense, no messing with seperates etc and a bargain. Good brand, ultra reliable...

jeremey:
i keep hearing that the bose systems are good, but overpriced. aesthetically, they sure are nice & invisible.

jrnyjunky:
my JBLs are over 20 years old & in need of refoaming, but i love them & would never part with them. i'm sure my neighbors aren't too fond of them or my hafler 500. wouldn't it be difficult to voice match a center, sub & rears if i wanted to use the JBLs as the fronts in the 5.1? obviously, i don't know enough to even know what i'm getting into here.

deano:
i ain't got that much bank, but i do want the best. i'd rather not get anything than get something mediocre.

i know i just have to go listen & compare a bunch of systems, but it's so damned overwhelming when i don't even know where to start. :?

They are pricey, but I don't believe overpriced for a specific market...You're paying for the low profile, the amazing technology, and the ease of getting into the system....It is cheaper to get a very good component system, but then you have to piece it together yourself, and you're at the mercy of a 16 year old Best Buy Blue Shirt....Or you can get a home theater in a box, but in most cases you get what you pay for.

Good luck!!
