They are a joke simply because writing your own music , playing live and actually having a great singer and selling millions and millions with huge sellout concerts and radio airplay for 30yrs is passed over. The ones to get in are rapcrap and one hit/album wonders. They sound more like the UN where everyone is on the take($$$). The R & R HOF is political and a personal profit machine for some. They no longer have credibility.

Pat Benatar
Heart

Sorry Angie,

Styx Genesis and Benatar are simply not good enough. I like them but they're not even close to a RnR Hall. I would vote Rush in, because of their technical progression and their influence.

They are more close to a RnR hall than Wilson Pickett, The O Jay's or the 5 different times Eric Clapton is in. C'mon I can only name 1 Blind Faith song. Sex Pistols had 1 album. Not only should Genesis be in it based on the previous inductees - Billy Squire, Reo Speedwagon fuck even LA Guns have sold more records than some of than half of those in there. Not only should Kiss be in there Ace Frehley should be in as a solo act. Hell Paul Simon was inducted twice. Ted Nugent has had more influence than the Ink Spots.

Excellent idea Andrew! Then maybe, the bands that rightfully deserve a hall of fame honor will get one!!! :D

Something I have had in mind for a while....just how to execute it so it legitimately means something is the big question.

Just tell what I can do to help and I'm there. I was actually thinking of you when I posted about starting a new one.

Padon my grammer in the last post , I've been drinking. Why don't we put the Knack in as well. More people know My Sharona than Percy Sledge.

True, by Sting.
Clapton should be in solo only, MAYBE MAYBE Cream (shortlived though)

MelodicRock Hall Of Fame. That's got a great ring to it.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

Angie,

How in the hell did Jan Wenner get inducted into the RR Hall of Fame? Isn't he just a writer? :?

I roll w/ AKay on that, Dean all the bands mentioned in her post incl/ Heart, Styx, and Benatar are Cooperstown quality.

Dude, are you telling me there's no kinship (and not just in differently spelled names) between Schon and Neil Giraldo?

NoMoreTails, leap out of the weeds where you're watching from and back me in the cool, calm, collected way that only you can that Giraldo is THAT good.

And know that that's not damning EITHER guy with faint praise as I think they're the premier rock guitarists of that time. Just that as criminally underrated as Neal is, Giraldo's plight is even WORSE.

There is a category for non musicians and he was inducted into that.

Here is what was said at the induction ceremony in 2004 when he was inducted:

Rolling Stone's Wenner, who is also the vice chairman of the Rock Hall's executive board, was feted by Mick Jagger as "one of the first music critics who understood what we as artists felt. Jann almost single-handedly pioneered the idea of rock'n'roll as a vibrant art form. It was Jann and his staff that elevated our music to a place where it enjoys the status of other musical forms."

I may have overlooked his name but shouldnt Bernie Taupen be in for writing all of E. John's hits.

Thanks Angie, for clarifying that for me. And he did induct himself, right? Bad Bad man ! Loves to toot his own fucking horn !

I say fuck Mick's speech. There was alot more artists out there who didn't get a good write up from this piece of shit (Journey being one). So he didn't understand all artists either. This dude needs to be out of the chairman's spot, and put someone in who will consider everyone, just not who they like, into the Hall of Shame. That also includes any minions who vote as well. Then maybe people will call it the Hall Of Fame, and not Shame.
