Tom, you are higher than high. Luke is awesome, but to say he has been on more albums than neal? So? Neal has toured every year for 9 years, put out what, 5 solo records, had Soul Sirkus on the side...there simply is not enough more time for him to do anything else.

Deano,

We were debating who the better PLAYER is. I think it is entirely RELEVENT to list one's total body of work as PROOF of their talent.

Luke has been playing since his teens as well and has a BALL BUSTING collection of credits to his name.

That is FACT.

You fucked up...this PURE SHIT. Read it....fuckin' read it. Garbage.

When I find myself in times of trouble, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

And when the night is cloudy, there is still a light, that shines on me,
shine until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music, mother Mary comes to me,
speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be, .....

Um no, they are not BOTH like that. Neal is very different than that. He will tell you face to face he is better than whomever he thinks he is. He is NOT humble.

BTW, since you seem to know Neal, have you ever asked him if he thinks he's better than Luke?

SJ and Deano,

You guys are too fuckin easy! One comment about the Beatles and you two go apeshit fighting over them. Great for a few laughs.

I'm open minded.

Can you show us something other than an instructional video?

Maybe something live?

Have you heard of Youtube?

Also,

www.stevelukather.com

Check it. BTW, don't let your hatred of Toto "blind" you to what Luke is playing.

You didn't...sorry. It's just that there seem to be so many "Toto-haters" on here.

Try this one on for size...hang in there through the song and just check out Luke's phrasing, note selection, and tone. Very powerful.

It's a matter of opinion, but what i like about Neal is his longevity.

A lot of guitarists can do short little diddies.

Gently weeps was nice. It's so focused on Steve.

What I like about Neal is that he can inject his sound into a song and make it work with everything else thats going on.

They are equals with their technical skills, but Neal's repertoire is more diverse and impressive. He can do hard rock, melodic rock, the blues, Latin, jazz, ballads, and metal with equal brilliance. Sorry, Luke is great, and I love Toto, but Neal is God.

SJ, I agree with you mostly, in your comments, except when it comes to the BEATLES..
They, after almost 50 years, are still on top, and just keep rising
Nothing or no one will ever come close the BEATLES, EVER!!!!!
There are so many guitar greats. How do you pick just one. It has everything to do with taste.
No one has yet to mention Les Paul, Steve Gaines, or the GREAT JIMI HENDRIX.
There are so many more!
I don't agree with some things that Neal has said or done, but, it doesn't take away
from the fact the man has talent.

How about some STEVIE RAY VAUGHN :D

You have no idea about Luke and his diversity.

Name a style...almost ANY style...and Luke can play it. Much much more so than Neal. Did you check out Luke's discography????

Click on a few of the links if you don't believe me...talk about diversity!!

I'd wager that if you asked 100 axe-slingers who was the more talented, 95 of them would tell you it was Neal. Santana asked him to join the band when he was 15...after NS had turned down Clapton! By the way, a lot of those solos on the first record with Santana's were Neal's, too. Tomulator, you're definitely in the minority on this topic/

You're out of your fucking mind. If Neal and Steve sat down to jam, it wouldn't take 3 minutes and Steve would be saying "Hey dude, show me that lick again." Neal could and can play circles around Steve Lukather. He's a hell of a guitar player, don't get me wrong. But, he's no Neal Schon.

You really don't have a clue if you think Neal wouldn't be asking Luke how he plays many things if they ever played together.

I am MUCH MORE INFORMED on playing guitar than you. Therefore, my opinion holds more "weight" than yours does.

We'll just have to "agree to disagree" on this one but, you really are ignorant on Luke's playing while I have probably heard most ALL of Neal's stuff (and love most of it too).

You know what ass face? You come into a "JOURNEY" message board and start spewing shit about Lukather being better than Schon, and expect something different? Go to the Toto message board and spew your shit over there. You will be talking to yourself though, because there's nobody there! You know why? I think you do.
