That is King Diamond, not Kiss.

What's the Difference?

No, not whatever. You need to call up Azoff, Friga whomever, and get an ironclad answer as to why they object to this. If Bruce can say yes, what fucking reason does Azoff have?
I won't reprint the whole email here, but basically they can be quoted as saying they can't get into the specifics of who or why, but the answer was a non-negotiable NO.

It's pretty obvious what the reason is. If you offered 50% of your take to the band, you would receive a letter with permission to play. They don't like seeing others profiting off of their music. Even if it does result in people being turned on to Journey. Short sighted, yes.

And the answer came about 3 hours after I contacted Baruck. I'm not shouldering the whole blame on Journey, because anything that goes through Azoff concerning Journey may as well go through Lee Phillips first before they even look at it, and you know how that goes...![]()
Anyway, nothing in life is easy, Disney didn't bat an eye and moved to the next band down the list (I believe a DOORS tribute, if you can believe that the Doors would agree to sign a letter but Journey would not)?! The letter would not have prevented or stood in the way of us performing, legally, but Disney is so paranoid about their own trademarks (mouse ears, etc) that they wouldn't move forward without it.

J,
We kind of went through some of the same shit.
About 3 years ago we got a ceist and deceist order from BMI.
They wanted several hundred thousand dollars in compensation, because we had/have 1 minute soundclips on our webpage. They claimed that the soundclips, would prevent people from purchasing the original artists versions of the tunes we had posted. We contacted our attorney, and reached a settlement and now have to be a member of BMI,with their logo affixed to our page, and also a yearly fee we have to pay. We weren't charging anything for the clips and had/have them available for free.

We just recently had a lot of Journey fans saying that Journey was no more than a tribute band now. I don't know why they felt that way now and not back in '98, but for some reason they did. I and a lot of other people did feel that way back in '98 and were pretty vocal about it.
In a way, Steve Perry is part of Journey's trademark. They no longer have that trademark and Jeremey comes a lot closer to that specific vocal trademark sound than Augeri or Jeff. Maybe they're afraid people who only want to hear those trademark vocals will go see Jeremey(or Hugo for that matter) rather than see a Journey that doesn't come as close to that sound.
Just a thought.
Hey, Jeremey, like the new pants.

You know, I've given this a lot of thought since we talked to Jeremey about it in Roanoke. My totally cynical speculation is this: Journey has a new kick-ass lead singer (get 'em Jeff!!!). Perhaps certain veteran members of Journey resent the fact that their contributions to the success of this band are often overlooked because of 'the Voice', and would love nothing more than for him to just "Go Away, go away...". As long as there's someone out there with the amazing talent that Jeremey and the boys have, it makes it much more difficult to forget about Steve Perry. Anyone that has ever, and I do mean EVER, heard Frontiers would have to agree that they do nothing but honor this band.
OK, there it is...fire away!

Fire away my ass! You made a GREAT point. I agree, that quite possibly COULD be the reason. Awesome post.
