I'm logging off for the day....

PLEASE GOD, do not let me wake to a 5 page thread in the morning. I'll say a little prayer. Anything under 3 pages and I think I'll be able to manage.

That was the idea behind the concept. Despite the 18 month tenure of the "jolly Joe" look, like my old bobby knight av, I decided to go with something that more closely represents the style that won each guy multiple National Championships.

Yeah, the Bobby Knight av was sort of like the Gary Cherone of your avs. Never really fit in.

Hey folks, a few things to comment on:

The tombstone thing.
Get over it. We wanted to go out with a few funnies. I mean, come ON! Who the hell makes up a tombstone for a site with less than 250 users (probably of which only 1/2 were even remotely active)...not to mention a site that's been up for the better part of 4 whole months. It's like crying over the death of a pet horsefly. We were barely a blip on the journey-online radar...the site didn't progress the way we envisioned it...Mike and I had specific goals set for the site and there's no shame in looking at a venture (whether it's business or otherwise) and saying "this aint working the way we planned, let's bag it now before it really gets out of hand".

The digs
Again, same thing as above. We wanted to go out with a few funnies. We had written 10-20 different versions of the various numbers and at one point we said, "fuck it, this shouldn't be too complicated" I really thought I was going to take more heat for #1 (on the twinkies comment)....but the Steve Perry thing. COME ON. The guy's career IS dead. Anyone that thinks otherwise needs to see a shrink. So by analogizing our site with something that should be considered a given, we thought we were safe there.

Reardon
He's not the sole reason the place shut down, far from it. But I will say this...it got old, real fast, worrying about what Reardon had hiding up his sleave. I analogized this to AR last night...it's like living across the street from a known sex offender...You're scared to death that one day, the guy's going to try to talk to your daughter, so you spend all of your time (including time that you should be at work, mowing the lawn, banging the wife) watching this guy to make sure your daughter doesn't get offered a piece of candy. Eventually, it becomes so all consuming that you can't help but realize the quality of your life is ruined. The guy *was* maintaining several usernames on TJF, he never posted from the same IP ONCE...you get real insight to just how demented this guy is, when he sends you a PM from one of his 'personas' telling you that he just got an email from the wife of another one of his 'personas' saying that the persona was killed in a car accident. I mean, what kind of sick minded whack job does this sorta thing? To go to these lengths to perpetuate this game is downright, well, sick!

Listen, I try not to take myself too seriously...it's unhealthy to. To take this band too seriously is a character flaw among Journey fans. Hell, I don't think the band members take themselves too seriously. Gotta love the story about the purple shirts.....people online bitching about the Purple shirts...so what does Neal do? order 5 more!!! LOL!

So to that end...try not to read too much into this....Mike and I had a plan. It didn't work the way we planned it and given the way things were progressing, it would have taken more work to put the plan on track....work=time...and time is of short supply right now. I'd rather spend my time enjoying the Arnold vs. Geoge Takai files Deano's posting...than to police a psychopath in Joe Reardon.

Hope that clears up alot...and for now, let's all get back to havin fun here.

Completely understand you and Mike's reasons,Frank...The site had a promising start, but IMO there was too much negativity at one point...just for the sake of negativity I guess.

The Reardon issue can really be time and nerve consuming, because he DOES have enough patience to see everyone losing patience...
Now that he ran out of message boards,he may start gearing up for another Dickhead Award for 2007!

Enjoy your time here,Frank, and your peace of mind.

Except didn't AR post at TJF under a false username called X? Or was that Reardon pretending to be to AR posting as X? :? :)

I hope that Journey fans can post opinions about Journey without being attacked. It seems that some of the comments already are attacking people who were members of TJF and who have not even posted here yet.

At least wait for a person to fuck up before you unleash the hounds.

That is my opinion.

Not really...it was AR, but he wasn't doing it to mislead anyone at all. He will freely admit that he came clear onwho he was quite early on....and he shouldn't HAVE to post under one username because he uses that user name on another site...thats silly... He also wasnt maintaining 2 usernames the way Reardon was....

The only thing that amazes me about Reardon is the unwavering effort to announce that JT is not him! It is the ONLY constant, consistent thing about him!!

So Frank, if Reardon never used the same IP twice, how did you finally "know" for sure?

Maybe you bet let Andrew in on it as well sonce he will likely make an effort to get back in here...

Well, unless there were hundreds of deleted posts which I didn't see my impression was that Joey Delight/Journeytroll made a very positive contribution to that site. In fact, it could be argued that he/they worked harder than anyone else to make it work.

The Joey Delight persona rarely said anything that might constitute a "car wreck". Nothing I saw him write compared to the crap I saw posted against TVL on this site at the weekend and that's for sure.

As for the Journeytroll persona...well, who was it that introduced the Journey chats on that site? None other than Journeytroll and most civil he was too when I joined in for a chat one night.

Again - I'm happy to stand corrected if the mods there had to delete stuff all the time - but as far I could could tell Reardon rarely went as far as he does on the alt-music site.

That's Reardon's schtick. He will stay largely normal for a period of time and then completely go bonkers. I experienced the same thing on a short-lived forum I started last year. I allowed him to join up and he eventually went nuts and I had to excommunicate him. Besides that, while he's acting somewhat normal on one site, he goes somewhere like the alt.music.journey newsgroup and posts all manner of vile things about certain people of which I am one. The things he's posted about me on that newsgroup are vile and he's done even worse against others.

well, nothing in particular. You take the whole package and you put it together. The whole Linda Reardon email about Joe Reardon dying in a car accident and conveniently emailing Troll was enough to make me really question what the hell was going on...I always found it odd that Troll and Delight went to tremendous lengths to say they weren't the same person...hell, Troll's location tag was "This is my only username". It's like dealing with a troubled child...they go to such great lengths to convince you that they're not lying that you have no conclusion to come to other than that they are....Because why on earth would you have to say you're not lying so much, if you weren't indeed lying?!

Mathew, There's PLENTY of posts that were edited and/or deleted by mods....let's try not to make this about reardon...I made it clear that he is nothing more than a contributing factor to the closing of the site. The fact of the matter is that the site wasn't progressing the way we wanted it to....and the constant worry/policing of reardon made it that much more difficult to really do the things we wanted to do there.

Shania - his first reaction to Delp's death was scary - but he then went on to talk about his own relevant experiences in the past and then went on to talk about Delp's suicide in a much more reasonable and compassionate way.

No, I'm not ignoring the fact that Reardon has problems nor that he has been cruel to people I like on this site. But equally I'm not going to demonize the guy for having those problems.

Surely not, I have always gotten a boot in the ass of Troll/OA/JR/JD/Stempler/ShawRiff/Kappy's.
I am guilty of tweaking him both here and there and for that I feel bad for the 'bat and Frank.

But there are fewer things funnier to me than when he's on an Ewarpath.

I still say we make a forum just for the dysfunctional Journey fan like JT/Reardon and let them just go bonkers...you can ban them every now and then just for amusement...and catalog the emails and such from the various names, and then post them for the world to see the stupidity.

True and for a good while now part of Troll's profile have been the words "This is my only username."

Dave28, you yourself caught that one guy over Frank's place who CLEARLY had been begged by JR privately to do so, lying when he posted an obviously contrived and out-of-the-blue "Let me get this Troll/Reardon nonsense out the way now. I KNOW they're 2 different people, BOTH guys have been at my house at the same time." He did everything but write, "now that that's out of the way...."
