JSS fan and I didn't even know it

Postby montyollie » Sat Mar 31, 2007 9:24 am

Okay, I'm a little slow on the uptake. Then again, I'm very new to all this music, as you guys might have figured out by now. Heh heh. I just recently discovered a latent love for SP and I've been lapping up any and all old Journey that I can find. Bought the freakin' Journey karaoke CD (Legends 104 hahaha) and it's all I sing at karaoke these days, too.

I knew JSS was the new frontman, and I knew the fans seemed to really dig him, but it was overwhelming and I didn't really know where to find his recordings of Journey songs. And I was having a hard enough time catching up on all the SP Journey. FYI I have not even BEGUN to tap into the SA years.

(OT My DVD arrived today! The Houston Escape tour. I can't WAIT to watch it!!!!)

Anyhow... I was just on Wikipedia and D'OH!!!!! found out he's the freakin voice behind Mark Wahlberg in the movie Rock Star.

Jesus H.

Rock Star is one of my favourite movies. You know what I was doing on September 10, 2001? Sitting in the movie theatre TWICE for two consecutive viewings of that movie. I bought the soundtrack that night.

I remember it so vividly because I blogged about how much I loved it and I loved the music and I had Verve Pipe's "Colorful" on repeat that day (Mark in the post-grunge era haha). It was my last "normal" entry before the world came crashing down the next day. I remember listening to that CD a LOT post 9-11. I loved "We All Die Young" and "Blood Pollution". Seriously.

I think I went to see Rock Star a couple of more times after 9-11 to get my mind off things. It was such a nice way to escape for a bit.

Anyhow, turns out I have taste. HAHAHA I should have known I would love JSS. I just watched a few YouTube clips, and MAN oh MAN, I see what all the fuss is about now. He's the perfect replacement frontman for Journey.

Now I need to find out when they are coming this way on tour. LOL I'm driving to Texas from Canada to see Jimi Jamison, so never let it be said that I'm not a ... okay, I'll say it... LOON for the music I love.

:)

Actually Jeff is the voice behind the first singer in the movie for "Steel Dragon", not Mark Wahlberg's character, & on the soundtrack sings Stand Up, Wasted Generation, & Livin the Life. Mike Matijevic was the voice behind Wahlberg's character.

NO WAY. Okay, now I feel retarded. Who sang the Mark Wahlberg songs? Because it definitely wasn't Mark Wahlberg. And I loved that voice.

Okay... scampering off to give the other songs a listen. I *know* I love Livin' the Life though.

He's a more well-rounded singer now but check out this live version of "I'll Never Let You Go" and take a listen to some of the stratospheric, glass-shattering high notes this guy could hit back in the day.

I just unearthed my "Rock Star" CD so I could rip it to my MP3 player. Sure enough, Sammy Hagar wrote "Stand Up".

No wonder I love that CD so much. LOL Sammy can do no wrong in my books.

And looking at the pictures on the sleeve reminded me of the one thing about that movie I couldn't STAND: Jennifer Aniston. Not that she's a two-bit actor, no, it was that her hair was SOOOO inappropriate in that movie. No one (not even me, and I was into Depeche Mode and Erasure in the 80s) had FLAT HAIR. No one. Her hair should have been backcombed in that movie. It was very distracting.
