What I can't understand is.....WHY????

I think that the attention and sympathy were a big part of it. We were all calling, and emailing, and texting constantly to make sure she was ok. Then obviously they knew that we would all want to send something. Flowers, CD's, etc. He (the person that started this) even asked for a necklace that she has always wanted but then said she was a very modest person and didn't like expensive things. This person knew that people were planning care packages, and shit like that. Thats what I think it was for - it was all about the attention and the gifts / money. I had already bought books, a few CD's, and shit ready to send to her, it just needed to be wrapped.

But in all honesty, I would do it again. I would pray, and be concerned, and want updates on a person that I thought went thru this. I am much more impressed with the generosity of the people on MR, JSS Forums and the Annex. And is what I will take away from this - how thoroughly fortunate I feel to be apart of this group of caring individuals.

I haven't even tried to read between the lines of the whole story.When someone is in danger I go "blind".
Just like some of you,I was ready to contact that Ralph guy and send something to her.

Now I feel sorry for Victoria,but I'm not upset that we wanted to help her.
Our prayers and concerns were honest,and I'm sure we would do it again if someone would ask for help.

Well Shania, just because some of us read between the lines, doesn't mean that we don't have compassion and don't care. I prayed for this girl just as much as anyone else did, blindly, and then when I realized things were getting too dramatic to be real, I was a mess. I was near tears with every post when I realized how Jeff and so many others would be hurt if it turned out to be a fraud. I still could not be 100% sure it was a fraud, so my prayers continued. I too was very moved by the whole community on these boards!

That's right! This whole episode sickens me because a "fan" (and who knows what her original intentions were all along!) was a part of this hoax. I don't know who she is, but I hope if she & her friend have a shred of conscience that they feel the guilt & apologize...that girl blew it big time. Now she can see what "she could have had" a Rock singer and a whole lot of strangers that were so concerned & worried about her! Sad, especially since some people wrote that she was this sweet, caring person! But, I can also say that I am glad there wasn't really a girl in a hospital in critical condition, which would've been worse.

Jeff, your admirable character shines through - I feel bad that you went through such a range of intense emotion in such a short time over this. Your family & friends are lucky to have someone like you. It is hard not to feel for other people on the forums because you get to "know them" through their posts - god knows I've cried over many posts & what happened to some fans.
And, all those prayers are never wasted - God knows the truth & will honor all the heartfelt thoughts and prayers in some way.

Remember that girl that was here a while back pretending to be one of the moderators from BT? Some people in the world are just plain dishonest & evil - they all fall into the same category 'tho "rotten".

Thanks for clarifying. It touched me at first too. I was right there with you, until the story got more complicated. I think I have a natural tendancy to be skeptical of people. My husband was a detective who handled fraud cases for a few years, and I learned you just never know who to trust. It is very sad that we can't always trust things at face value. My biggest worry was it would come down to money, and I thank God all of our prayers worked for us not to be conned any further for that to happen!

Your right. I dont think it should get any more attention then it already has. That seems to be part of what the nut was looking for and everyone is giving it to them by continueing on and on about it. Lets let the authorities handle it and do whats needed to be done and let it rest. If she doesnt get in any trouble for it in the legal sense then karma has a way of coming back and will bite her in the ass...in the end. I just hope this doesnt further jade people from acting on impulse with their hearts and thoughts in the future. When things like this happen the worst damage to come from it is not financial or anything. ..the worst is that it hardens people from trusting and doing for someone in need the next time. I hope this doesnt happen. The world is full of good, honest people that are in need.... so our prayers are not really wasted. There are bad seeds that come along now and then to spoil things and try to take advantage of people and/ or a situation, but if we let the few bad ones stop us from giving when needed then we have let them defeat us. I will still give my trust and give with a happy heart like we all should. We can only try to go on instinct and trust our intuitions as to the validity of a situation and to what our senses tell us about them. In this case it was hard because we didnt know the person and just reacted to what we read here. So we cannot feel bad for doing the right thing. Like I said, I hope the "bad guy" doesnt win in this and manages to harden some folks when giving of themselves the next time someone is in need and I hope that everyone can still maintain and give their trust and give from the heart.

I never intended to make anyone "feel stupid" I just suggested that if the perpretrator of this scam did it to gain attention, then they had succeeded.
