OT/Happy uplifting Songs

Postby styxman » Tue Apr 03, 2007 6:27 am

Right here's the quest, find 10 songs that are happy in the melodic rock world, uplifting and not depressing and all about lost love etc. I bet the fuck nobody can. Can anybody find a Journey song that's not sad or about what might have been?

This leads me to the question are we all sad and hanging on to what might have been, no happy go lucky Beach Boy types in the melodic crowd, no Captain Sensible who gives a fuck types. Are we all on a permanent downer listening to this sad lack lustre stuff...I need answers

Any Way You Want It

Higher Place

Escape

Lovin' You is Easy

Raised on Radio

Top of the World (Van Halen)

Mas Tequila (Sammy Hagar)

Those are just off the top of my head -- I'm sure someone will come up with a lot more. It's not as bad as ya think!

Oh fuck I've picked a wrong topic for discussion here, is escape happy? Raised on Radio, sounds a bit sad to me, no mother or father figure just a radio. Top of the world, Van Halen, looks like someone fell off the top there for sure  Lovin' you is easy, but it don't last does it  Higher Place, that's like let's get the fuck out of where we are...wouldn't you say?

Sacred Eyes by JSS is a beautiful love song. he is the best at the mushy stuff. he has a bunch like that. he writes more about love in the moment. some are REALLY in the moment!! like 4U and then Color My XTC and Succomb by Talisman.   I've noticed this about his writing and he is pretty consistently writing about being gloriously in love, a lot of the time. . But then there are the 'fell outta love' crashers, too. :x

that's 4. I'll get more..............

pretty much every song ever written, is about love for or of something. So you can't escape the notion of love...

I've fucked up here good style, what I was getting at was the 60's thing, happy songs, real innocent happy songs. Let's get rocked, is aggresive, Dude looks like a Lady, is that a happy song? More than a feeling, is a sad song. High on you isn't happy happy happy, neither is Hold the line.

I agree, but surely there's got to be happy songs that don't relate to love, lost or found

It's got the 60's theme of Rock and Roll, so I guess you're on the right wave length

But Styxy, it's the angst in the songs that people identify with. I mean even the Beatles didn't stay with stuff like I Wanna Hold Your Hand and She Loves You for very long. If you listen to the words of those there's even a little teen angst in them.

Can you name 10 songs from the '60s that had no angst in them?

Cherry Bomb - John Mellencamp. I don't care how bad of a mood I'm in, that song has the ability to bring me out of it.
I like to sit out on the front porch, where the birds can see me, eating a plate of scrambled eggs, just so they know what I'm capable of.

I'll bet you've heard it. It's just got a name that doesn't fit the song.

Here's someone else singing it.
