And here I thought you had passed out in nerve ending-twitching ecstasy. You really ARE built to last unlike SP's solo career.

I've heard these tracks - and I like them. But to say that these songs are more soulful than anything Schon and Perry ever did seems like wild praise to me.

What did Schon and Perry do that was more soulful than those are? You're probably going to say something from ROR which will not win the argument to my ears.

Yes, sometimes partly due to Perry and sometimes in spite of Perry, and without Perry so far. I have thought many times about asking if you were a Journey fan, or a Perry fan only.
Your thinking that Yngwie (not that I care for him) and Satriani are not unique players or are anything alike (from the other thread) show me why it is useless to try to convince you that Schon has done anything worthwhile without the "benefit" of Perry's guidance.

Well, I'm pleased you've actually listened to the Journey back catalogue. I don't have to talk you through it, after all.

Let me clarify: I'm a fan of Journey with Perry (and recently...Journey with JSS in concert).

Your thinking that Soul Sirkus is more soulful than classic Journey gives me that same powerless feeling....

Yes, I have and listen to it all from the pre-Perry albums on, rarely listen to ROR however.
But IBAWY is pretty soulful, live especially even post-Perry.

Matthew wrote: Let me clarify: I'm a fan of Journey with Perry (and recently...Journey with JSS in concert).

I saw Jeff's second show last year, it wasn't quite right to me but I'm looking forward to seeing them again and hearing more, I understand he has come into his own with this material in a lot of people's view.

I'm only talking about 2 songs, not the whole album. 2 songs which should have been saved for the next Journey album, which recall more of an Infinity vibe and would be a great departure from the piano dominated ballad formula of the Cain era...if I won't upset any Perryheads by referencing an era other than Pre/during/or post-Perry...
I'll overlook our differences on the Perry issue as '13 thinks you're a good guy...but then again he likes ROR.

Now this is the kind of noise that makes me regret always wanting you to come out of retirement. :P
I never said I thought Matto was a good guy, :) but we have this weird and unholy alliance of being the 2 biggest ROR fans here and simply canNOT discuss anything '90 on.

I SILL don't know why I even like YOU, given your blindness to the mastery of ROR.

I voted the NOTHING...
I mean he's done so much, and worked so hard, all his life, they all have...
It would be nice though, if he would just say, ''hey..I'M HERE, RIDIN THE HAWG!"
"Surfin the waves."
Nothing too fancy!

Yes, JSS does a great version of that one. In fact, the version I heard (from the Hollywood Bowl, I think) was one of the main reasons I styarted feeling optimistic about the band again.

I was really surprised by how good he was a month ago in London. So much better than those early shows.

Okay - I'm going to listen to those two songs again with the Infinity comparison in mind. Where do you stand on "Believe In Me"?

Yes I think its one of JSS's best from the youtube I've seen. Of course I liked it with SA as well, thought his ad libs near the end were a nice touch.

I think they sound more updated of course, but that sort of vibe
I thought BIM had the Journey feel from the first time I heard it. I think it would have been a good one to replace BGTY with live if a Journey song, thought it was sort of similar but better than Never Too Late from Generations, good stuff from Neal.

Just curious,NMT...Why don't you like ROR?
Is it that bad,or is your opinion influenced by the stories behind the album?

Maybe you've explained it before, but I can't remember or maybe I wasn't around when you did..

So if you have time for this now,can you post ,say...3 solid reasons why ROR is a bad album?

Ripping ROR is like shooting fish in a barrel for cro-magnons like NMT and you who aren't in touch with their sensitivities enough to appreciate ROR.
