Christina Aguilera has infuriated fans by reportedly lip-syncing at a New York concert on Friday.

Audiences at the Madison Square Garden show were alerted to the possibility that the 'Dirrty' singer might have been miming through the entire set when she encountered undisclosed technical problems.

The blonde star's manager Irving Azoff admitted there were some sound-related problems during the show, but did not comment on the allegations that Christina was lip-syncing.

He said: "Miss Aguilera is one of the most talented vocalists to ever grace the stage. However, we did have a technical problem with the sound equipment at the Garden."

Kinda makes you wonder whether it was Steve's doing or Azoff doesn't it?

Forgot to add that it doesn't matter who orchestrated it, it's still wrong. Would love to hear rockindeano's take on this. Oh where Oh where has our rockindeano gone?

The difference is that 'acts" like Christina and Britney et al. were always thought to lip at least a little, because the shwo was so physical (dancing). There's no way you can sing a song while dancing hard and such, and still maintain the same level with your voice.

A whole show wouldn't surprise me in the least, for these newer acts. it's the older folks who REALLY should know better, and do it (and sometimes get caught) that I'm actually pissed about, you know the ones, that I'd actually spend money to see "live". If JSS "had to" resort to doing it, and he's already said fuck no I wouldn't under any circumstances, then I'm more pissed than Christina doing it. Sometimes saving face is more important than making money.

What it makes me wonder is who else uses enhancements.

Note that I don't like to say "lipping" cos I don't necessarily think any of them lip 100% (no, not even SA)... but I personally think every singer uses enhancements to a certain extent. They just don't admit it obviously, and the fact is... most of them don't have someone like to Deano to blog them (not a dig at you Dean, just stating fact).

I reckon we'd all be horrified if we knew the real truth as to who used enhancements and who didn't. There are a few I'm suspicious of but like I said, I'm not the type who'd ever pursue the issue.

This has been discussed before, but the most blatant use of "offstage vocal enhancement" that I've come across so far (for a rock band) is Toto. They pipe in choruses, backing vocals, and an entire pre-chrous lead vocal line during "Africa" straight from the studio recordings.

Like others have said though, it does make you wonder if Azoff has a part to play in it. Not that he'd ever broadcast it if he did. Anything's possible in the music world

You might be onto something there.

But... like I said, it might be that most singers are using these types of enhancements. The unfortunate thing with SA was he got caught out... but who else is at it?

I'm sure if Deano was interested enough to do blogs on loads of other singers then it would be quite easy to do it, put it that way. Just imagine it... Escape To Tape: How Many Singers Use Enhancements? Come in here to find out exactly who does what!!!

I can remember a couple of years ago, before Rocko went to U2 and returned to Journey, when someone asked in the DH about Augeri lipping, apparently she had picked up on something odd at one of her shows. Of course this was way before the latest lipping uproar. It was a pretty popular thread with lots of questions and theories. Finally Rocko chimed in and said it was a 'click track', or something like that, which was an enhancement device used by lots of bands.

This is true. In fact we've lost a good poster going by the name of Journey/Survivor who brilliantly spoofed EscapeToTape with a Roger Waters blog post once when we were speculating about Waters' shows.

Gwen Stefani LIPPED on american idol when she performed and nobody said a damn thing... She held the mic close to her mouth to hide any facial expressions that would imply she was out of sync with the song!

It's a shame.. Especially when this contest is about SINGING!

Thank you! I had said the same thing to a freind who disagreed with me, so glad to see that someone else noticed her lipping.

I sure hope you're right about AI being a singing contest..the way things are going right now it looks more like a popularity contest.
