We all know that Rolling Stone has always portrayed Journey as a band that "nobody should be a fan of". Hell....anything Rolling Stone says...we should listen to.

So Journey's a guilty pleasure? Big deal...they're making a hell of a lot of money just being a guilty pleasure.

Now Meat Loaf, IMO is the ultimate guilty pleasure. I don't know where he is on that list.

I do too, very impressive list. I just don't know what a guilty pleasure band is. I love em without any guilt whatsoever! ;)

One of my other favorites rank at number one. Yes...RUSH. GOD, I FUCKING HATE ROLLING STONE.
A guilty pleasure in my eyes would be listening to Smooth jazz or something...not bands (most of them) who paved the way for these crap wannabe bands to happen. Anyway...sorry...had to rant a little.

Wasn't at least one Journey song in a VH1 guilty pleasure list too?

Rolling Stone sucks.

I don't waste my time trying to understand what's their take on music.
They're just a bunch of Andy Warholists fighting to minimize everything that is holy in music.

Just take a look at their editor's pick for the RS top 5 singles.
Justin Timberlake at #5,#4,#2 AND #1.

I already posted this on the Styx board, but I'm so pissed off, I can't think of anything else to say...

1. Rush - the best progressive music band in history. Period.
3. Journey - the best singer and best guitarist ever, plus a co-founder of Santana and the world's best jazz drummer.
5. Chicago - incredibly influential before they cheesed out in the 80's
6. Boston - the technically perfect singer and guitarist. Notice a trend here yet?
7. Foreigner - Lou Gramm? Flat out one of the best vocalists ever.
9. Bon Jovi - 100,000,000 albums can't be wrong.
12. Motley Crue - the greatest melodic hard rock band in history.
13. STYX - incredibly complex and orchestrated music; spawned DDY and Tommy Shaw. C'mon.
14. Eddie Money - very underrated and very talented.
19. R.E.O. Speedwagon - I can see a bit of the cheese factor here, but they're still great.
21. Lionel Richie - Whaaaa? Name a better singer. You can't.
22. Kansas - I'm starting to get PO'd now.
24. Hall & Oates - sold more albums than Simon & Garfunkel and Loggins & Messina combined. "Maneater" sucked, though.

Rolling Stone magazine is a piece of crap, and it has been a piece of crap for years.

Jan Wenner, who did, or still does (?), work for that pos magazine, is now chairman of the RR HOF. That tells me Journey will never have any chance of getting in with Wenner at the helm and only three musicians on the committee.

Rolling Stone does indeed SUCK! And I told them so.

I had a subscription for the last few years ( I've had one off and on for many years- but my daughter asked me to get it this last time) And I recently let it "lapse". They called to ask why ( IE- were my mags coming damaged, missing issues, etc.) and I told them that the thing just "sucked" now. Their only "redeeming" articles are the political ones, and I can get that elsewhere. Don't need a "music" mag to get that stuff!

I might pick it up occasionally now- when they have an article on a band I like ( yea- like that's gonna happen  ) But I'll stick to getting my music news here! ( Thank you Andrew!!!)

As for the ROR HOF- It started out with good intentions, but now it's just a "suit-show". Jann Werner is proof that "absolute power corrupts- Absolutely!"
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, wine and chocolate in hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "what a ride!"

Fuck it....let's terrorize that bitch AND that magazine. Maybe then, we can lift the label of being "corporate" fans.

Good point Matt. Thinking this just a little deeper, could this be another of those signs that Greggie was talking about in another thread? Could this music be regaining it's popularity and this be RS sticking it's toe in the water just in case it may need to wade in later?

Too late. Fuck them. Don't want their support now because it's convenient for them. They stick their toe in the water and I'll bite it off. 20 years later is WAY too late. Fuck Rolling Stone, it's writers, staff and readers.

During Tapegate, you don't want to know what they were going to run and not run. I have all their writers email, because all their writers emailed me. It got so ridiculous, that the last time we talked, they were going to run a story on Tapegate, but I told them that they might want to reconsider because their story was so full of inaccurate particles, it wasn't even funny.

Their article would have hardly made a ripple in the Journey world. I don't think too many Journey fans read that horse shit magazine. Sure would have been negative press for future fans though. But I doubt they number a lot anyway.

Exactly! It's an honour. But still...I am a bit disappointed that Journey didn't make it to Number One.

The only good thing that ever was associated with RS, is/was Cameron Crowe.

RS can't have it both way, trashing the band for decades and now all of a sudden publish a list of guilty pleasure bands. Is this what the uproar is about? or is it that they weren't #1 on the list?

The first and only issue of RS I've ever bought was the one with the naked John and YoKo on the cover. I have a few others that my son-in-law has given me because there were articles he knew would be of interest to me.

Other than that I agree with Whocares.

Who cares what these dickheads think. They're forever bashing "corporate rock", yet who graces the cover of this once "mighty institution of journalistic integrity"? Justin fucking Timberlake, Brittany Spears, and Flava of the month Rap guy...or if all else fails, they just throw some half-naked actress on the cover ( Not that I'm COMPLAINING about this , mind you- check out this month's GRINDHOUSE cover as proof- very nice, but hardly a display of sound journalism) These fuckers sold out worse than STYX or Speedwagon ever thought about. God, it hacks me off that this douchbag (Weiner) is keeping Journey, KISS, Boston, etc... out of their rightful place in the RORHOF!
