Stranded-from Sentimental.

The entire Palisade album is excellent.( getitgetitgetitgetit)

his solo stuff is quite a bit harder than the Takara, which is ok by me.

the Queens' dvd --he's a monster on the Queen's bass stuff plus he produced that video, and sang

Live at the Gods 2002. the acoustic set is amazing. he produced this video also. bass guitar and vocals.

you can listen to samples at garyschutt.com, and there are videos clips

I'll check back later.........

Debbie, I've got the JSS Queen dvd and the Gods dvd and totally agree with ya on Gary. Also enjoy the onstage chemistry between him and Jeff, they work well off each other. Almost as much fun to watch as JSS, ok not quite.

And Behshad.......mine would be JSS, Gary, Neal and Deen. All kick ass at what they do and it shows in their passion of it on stage. :D

I don't know much about this effort. any insights would be appreciated. Jeff? Eric? Bob? I see that Lonely Shade of Blue is here. I thought that was Jeff's song. (I love that song!!)

awesome stuff so far!! incredible bass lines on Eternal Faith! atta boy, Gary. (did YOU vote today?)

thanks for your thoughts.

Takara is a lot of fun, it has been guitarist Neal Grusky's baby since the inception and Jeff brought some incredible magic to the songs during his tenure. I learned a lot from watching Jeff work on these tracks. The Eternity album features the best of the Jeff years, and there are soundclips on the band's My Space page at http://www.myspace.com/takararocks.

I am also a huge Marcel fan (great writer too!), but to Gary Schutt's credit he is a versatile utility man who can do it all - sing lead, high harmonies, play bass, guitar, keyboards, mix, produce videos, etc. He is also funny as hell and extremely humble - just the kind of guy you would want in a band. Check out his video and vote, it is phenomenal!

Not to make it sound like a competition between the two of them but fid you know that Marcel can do all that too and then some!? and in addition to all that Marcel has a bachelors degree(and going for masters) in Psychology.

Does Gary's bachelor's degree in songwriting, recording and performance from Berklee count for anything?

Gary has a degree in Music Composition from Berklee, not that it is a contest or anything.

I love Marcel--he's awesome. incredible stuff comes outta that bass when he is around. he plays it like a guitar--more melodic than foundational bass lines. not good or bad-just a different style. I didn't know anyone could play a bass like that. wow

hi Eric!

You did a great job on Takara too! I'm lovin' it!

BTW-Eric will be on the East Coast coming up. Maybe he'll get to play somewhere close to some of you.

Eric? more info?

Hey thanks for the plug! I was originally flying in to perform shows with American Angel surrounding the release of our new album Vanity. (Visit http://www.americanangelrocks.com, or check out samples at http://www.myspace.com/americanangel) but sadly they are sorting through some internal problems which take priority. However I'll be at the Canal Room in NYC this Saturday night checking out my friend Hugo singing for the AMAZING Journey tribute band, Evolution. They have a website at www.journeyshow.com with all kinds of audio and video. So if you'd like to come hang out on Saturday night and see what all the fuss is about, come on over and introduce yourself - I'll be the only bald guy in the room with a ponytail. : )

All the best, Eric

Glad both you and GLY mentioned that.
Here's a difference: Marcel didnt have to get a bachelors degree from Berklee, that talent just came in "built in". If it had come in "built in " for Gary, maybe then he wouldve had a chance to get a degree at something else besides the music he is so great at! So when it comes to the overall talent, I think Gary himself would agree that Mr Jacob is a tad better!
Sorry , but couldnt resist to post this as this is startin to sound a competition after all !!

Behshad, that's kind of mean! Who's to say he didn't have built in talent but maybe wanted to learn about production and recording so he could maybe do other things with his music career other than just playing? Many musicians go to Music Schools when they have natural talent. That's what draws them there in the first place.

Well, not that this is a competition or anything... ...but a bachelor's degree in music means understanding theory, reading and writing sheet music, classical, modern (the 1800's) and all that goes with it. It requires a real love of music as a whole, and the kind of commitment that I personally couldn't commit to - and I majored in music for two years. (For what it's worth I started off as a psyche major because the auditioning process for music was intimidating - it's a hardcore degree to pursue.)

Everyone brings different skills to the table. Marcel is a phenomenal bassist, while perhaps Gary is more of a multi-instrumentalist. Both are prolific writers, although I've never heard Marcel sing. Jeff obviously thinks highly of both men to work with them both so extensively. I don't know Marcel personally but I am a fan of his work. But I seem to be losing the plot...what was the point of this again?

One point that most of people including yourself keep missing is that Marcel plays more than bass!
He can play and shred on the guitar. He is a great drummer and he also plays keyboard amongst other instruments.
I have the highest respect for both of them . But I personaly think Marcel is just a tad better.

I won't argue about Marcel, I haven't seen him play live. Gary can play all above instruments too though, and I've seen him play guitar live, and he is awesome as well :D

I KNOW Gary can play all the instruments above. In fact if you look at my reply to chynablue, It was mentioned in chynablue's post that Gary plays all the instruments. This is starting to feel like an Abbot & Costello Image

  Sorry!

You may be right, I guess I would have to see BOTH of them play to know if you're right.
