How did this go from Obama's comments on the VA Tech tragedy to talking about War in Iraq? I'm curious to know people's comments on what he said. I've heard enough about the war.

I don't think that he touched on it, Greggie. It just came up as what some are thinking should really be an issue. There are even political cartoons about it.

connecting the dots ...

In his email a couple of days ago Bob Lefsetz http://lefsetz.com/wordpress
Lefsetz included an email from Sam Cutler, former tour manager for the Stones and now in Austrailia (http://www.smh.com.au/news/film/the-day-the-music-died/2006/12/10/1165685550250.html)

He started out bitching about the greed of labels and people who put on events like Live Earth - and he also included this about rap music and how the record companies use it:

It's destructive shit, low level culture of the most primitive type, but no problem, it's a living. It suborns all the values that liberal democracies hold dear, encourages young people to see legal systems as inherently oppressive, glorifies the consumption of noxious chemicals that harm the human body, but no problem, it's a living!

We take the music from black disaffected street gangs, re-process it, and sell it back to the ghetto whilst the mindless savagery of the lyrics and the psychopathic intensity of their delivery give our young people a swaggering machismo that finds its outlet in gun-related mayhem all over the
country. Never mind! It's a living!

Maybe there is a connection between the lyrics (and Imus' statement) and the horrible shootings at Virginia.

We develop a tolerance for abuse and violence - especially verbal.

People have said its ok for the rappers to use it because their music is art.

We get accustomed to that and then it is ok for Imus to say it "on air" because he is quoting rappers/music.

We get accustomed to bullying - especially on the internet.

Every time we say "ok" to any level of abuse or violence it raises the bar - it's ok for students to be carrying weapons - or have easy access to purchase them (this is not a rave for gun control)

Maybe that is what Obama meant about the many levels of violence.

Just saying that there maybe a connection.

Hug your kids today.

Then he should have touched on the influence the rappers might have had on his issues.

You all should be so proud to be part of such an outstanding party. So proud!

So the GOP are responsible for Obama's words now?

Don't be stupid. They cut and paste and take everything out of context and YOU fucking know it.

Dude you're not going to hear from him. Obama's entire quote was quoted in context. There's no cutting and pasteing, and Dean knows it!
