Great interpretation of Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin!

Postby Deb » Sun Apr 22, 2007 10:33 am

I know this was posted before a long time ago, but it's worth a second look! Some newbies may not have seen it. Jamie and Dave are from here and just got married in Banff a couple of years ago. They are so cute. :)

I'm sorry...I don't think there's such a thing as a "great" interpretation of that song. LTS is probably 90% of the reason people trash Journey. That song is open season with every other musician I know, and almost all of them are Journey fans. AWFUL song...can't be saved. Throw it away, and let's never speak of this again!

The worst video from Journey ever, and the worst song. Perry sure fucked this up for us.

But 7...that is a sentimental song. I remember being about 10 years old or so, listening to my k-tel greatest hits (whatever) compilation. I HATED the song then. It wasn't until I became reacquainted with Steve Perry & Journey about 8 months ago that I came to recognize and respect that song. And then...after seeing the video, it sealed the deal for me!

I just wish he woulda combed the back of his hair before they rolled tape... :?

I think that song was written by someone on prison, and carved into "Chuck's ass".

(Family Guy reference.)

LOL, like how the skaters picked out red and black too.

Must be a chick thing with this song, I've noticed like 90% of the guys hate it, yet 90% of the gals like it. While I agree I wouldn't miss Open Arms in concert, sure would miss LTS. I've always preferred that song LIVE to the studio version. Besides Jeff does a great job on that one.

You all are out to lunch. I love this song. It's about a man that gets screwed over by his woman as she's found someone else, and then gets screwed over the same way by someone else. Then you get to say ha ha, you screwed me over and I'm vindicated by it. How much more relevant can this song be? It's perfect.

That IS what the song is about. Perry wrote it in about five minutes after he saw his girlfriend making out with some guy outside the studio. Unlike "Patiently", it didn't turn out so well. If you want a song in that vein, I suggest Asia's "Only Time Will Tell"...

I see it now
It's become so clear
Your insincerity
And me all starry-eyed
You'd think that I would have known by now

You're on your own
Inside your room
You're claiming victory
You were just using me
And there is no-one you can use now

Or the last verse of "Heat of the Moment"...

And when your looks have gone
And you're alone
How many nights you sit beside the phone
What were the things you wanted for yourself
Teenage ambitions
You'll remember well

Or, if you're looking for something more dynamic and abstract, try Sting's "Shape of my Heart"

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
He don't play for respect

He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart
That's not the shape, the shape of my heart

And if I told you that I loved you
You'd maybe think there's something wrong
I'm not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one

Well, those who speak know nothin'
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost

I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that's not the shape of my heart

Yeah, that works too, but LTS is one of Journey's greatest hits and as well it should be. Nobody in music history made anyone enjoy singing Na Na Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na Na Na.... No other band could pull that one off. It's fucking genius.

For me, LTS, Lights and Open Arms are pure shit. Those songs are usually a beer break or the time I bend down and piss into one my empty beer cups. Pure shit...all 3 of them.

I like it too, so count me in that 90%. :D It's the "stripper" beat that gets to me. Perry looks a little too Demi Moore-ish in that video for my tastes though. Maybe one of these days I can enjoy Jeff singing it live.

Newbie checking in..I've heard about this but have never seen it; so thanks for the link. You're right, they are very cute.

I love LTS (or, as Kevin Cronin (sp?) referred to it, the na na song  ) But then I love all the dirty dozen!

Can't wait for the new CD 'tho, don't even care if it does have some SoulSirkus influence, I'm ready for Journey to ROCK!
