Now, now. {shaking finger, incredulously} According to HOTS, you only post when responding to criticism. You wouldn't want to mess up that caricature, would you?

Seriously, though, thanks for the info.

I think most of us here just plain like good music. Many of the 'harder' rock bands have vocalists that are amazing, like Chester Bennington or David Draiman. I've had the opportunity to hear both Chester & David sing songs (live mind you..) that are not of their catalogues, and holy shit, those guys would give Perry a run for his money. Crystal clarity, amazing depth... blew me away. I always said, if I'm not hoarse and sore by the end of the concert...must not have been a good concert!

Hell no.. not this fan anyway. Ozzy, Def Leppard (older), AC/DC, Black Sabbath.. some of my favs .. although I just totally dated myself. Course I became a Journey fan thru going to the Lep tour last year.. so maybe I am not the best judge.

Ah Kim...wish you were out here...we'd do Ozzfest together!!!!

Thanks for the info, Jeff! Love the tunes and I'm always amazed at your versatility as a singer. As for "heavier" stuff - You should know that years before I knew that Steve Perry was anything but a nose in a muscle tee, I was singing Judas Priest, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Suicidal Tendencies in high school cover bands! At one time I actually wrote the lyric "carving out your corneas with a rusty can" in a song. It was not a ballad. We all have our phases  ...

Isn't former Fuel-frontman Scallions playing Bass for these guys now???
I love Fuel, got to golf with them once when I was stationed in Va and hated

I am not one to rain on the parade, but I don't like it...Not at all. In fact, I fuckin hate it. Unlistenable. My opinion. I want no rapper crapper shit. Again, just my opinion.

Soto, wake Garfriga up from his "Touched by an Angel" marathon, call that fuckhead Deeno in Oregon, get Sconny back here, and record. You don't need Ross. You can play bass. Fuck, I'll play bass. Let's get this shit on the up and up.

Get your ass into the fucking studio, and record me and others, a Journey record.

I listened to the clips & I was afraid to post...but, Deano did it first so I guess it is okay. :) Um, it sounds like Rap to me & I dislike intensely Rap...actually, I hate when people blast it loud from their homes & cars. But, one of the songs, "Believe" sounds good when Jeff sings "I still believe..." I am not a headbanger either 'cuz I don't care for heavy metal...I like melodic & music that doesn't make my head & ears hurt.

I haven't downloaded this yet but I have listened to the clips! Awesome! I really love it! JSS, you certainly are one talented guy! I don't think there is any genre that you can't sing! You amaze me! Wish I had one tenth of your musical talent!

Listened to the clips and only care for a couple of the tunes. I hate the rap stuff. Some of the music is very good but I can't enjoy the lyrics at all when the rap crap is going on. Not my kind of thing.

These songs show just how versatile Jeff's talent is, and I can appreciate that, but I just don't really enjoy the rap/hip hop sound.

Hey I have a question - for really anyone who is a singer of this genre of music.
I am a trained singer myself - and I have tried to sing in this manner and it felt like my vocal chords were shredding - it hurt BADLY. The roughly - screamish singing thing. I love the sound - Metallica, Linkin Park, Aerosmith, that kind of sound..
How does this not ruin the vocal chords and cause permanente damage? Anyone know?

It's gotta have something to do with individual physiology. Some people would badly damage their voice singing that way. Other people can sing like that forever. Who knows. I'm surprised that a guy like Brian Johnson of AC/DC can even still talk, much less sing after singing like he does for the last nearly 30 years.

I also wonder if it is a guy thing. There are very few female metal singers that sing with that gravel, screaming sound. I wonder if it is painful. The RedList has this sound and it is great - but I wonder if it does damage or hurts like hell.

I think it's a pretty good album. Sounds to me like a combination of Linkin Park, Disturbed, Eminem and the Chillies, with some Rammstein thrown in for good measure. All great bands and this could hold its own against any of them. I too am NOT a great fan of rap, although Eminem's quite cool, but then there is much more going on in these songs than just Rap.

On another day and in another world an album like this could have really taken off. As Jeff has said its all a question of timing. But then that is true of so many bands that make it big - they just happen to be in the right place at the right time with the right sound for that moment. The same band a year earlier or later would disappear without trace.
