Mayweather-De La Hoya Thread

Postby Saint John » Sun May 06, 2007 9:25 am

Predictions please. I see De La Hoya winning the fight. Mayweather is a great fighter no doubt, but I think Oscar is going to be a bit too much at this weight. Maywether is a punk who has gotten a bit too full of himself. De La Hoya puts him on his ass in the mid rounds and wins a decision.

I think Mayweather is going to bust up De La Hoya. I hate to say that and definitely hate to see it because I'm a De La Hoya fan. I think OD is past his prime and should have retired already.

Have you watched the pre-fight coverage on HBO? Both are in great shape. I just think Oscar is going to prove to be a bit too strong and a lot smarter. Mayweather has never really been in trouble so it'll be interesting to see how he reacts IF OD can get him into trouble. Judging by his cockiness, I think he'll try to punch his way out of trouble which is going to land him in BIG trouble. Mayweather has the better skills/talent, I just don't believe he's disciplined enough to win this fight. IF he is, he will win. I do think OD knocks him down at least once and wins a decision.

Me too. I bet De La Hoya. He's +160. That means for every $100 you bet you win $160 (plus the $100 you bet). Mayweather is -200. So you have to bet $200 to win $100....actually you would get $300; your money back plus the $100 you won.

That's changed a little bit since I saw it. When I looked it was Mayweather -180, De La Hoya +150

Boxing's so bad now.
I miss Tyson. The Real Deal. Foreman. Holmes. "Destruction And Destroy" Manos De Piedre. Sugar Ray. The Hitman. The Foul Pole. Big Daddy. DoubleL. The Duke. Merciless. Razor.

Damn sport sucks now. Trying to hype this piece of shit into a Leonard-Hearns, you gotta be kidding me.

Pretty dumb to judge the fight BEFORE it happens. If you've followed the HBO coverage you'd know that these guys have put in 100% effort into their preparation. This seems like it's going to be a classic. I just ordered it for 54.95. I'll have a full recap immediately after the fight.

Why, dude? DeLahoya appears shot. The weight disparity and Mayweather's questionable ability to carry his power with him to 150 may help him, but all things being equal he should DESTROY Delahoya.

You're my man SinJin, but I'll read your report in the morning after I watch my tapes of Hagler-Hearns and Tyson-Ruddock

LOL Spinx The Jinx!!!

Hey man, I still say if Buster Douglas had shown up for Holyfield in the shape he showed up for Tyson, that woulda been a TERRIFIC match. I'da still rolled with Commander Vander, but it coulda been a classic.

You know he isn't Mexican right? He is American. That pisses you off I bet.

Can't watch boxing. Fixed, bad characters. If I want to see fighting, I will turn on the NHL.

Damn right.

Selective "Americanism."

DeLayahoya "from" LA? Traitor, hang him, bust a cap in his ass, SCREW the US.

Time to make some money? Roll across the border, then claim "asylum and persecution in MeHiCo, please lemme stay" when caught.

Very good fight, but not great. Mayweather won 8 of the 12 rounds I thought. Boring at points because Maywether is so elusive and at times he chose to not fight. De La Hoya gave an admirable effort and it was worth the $55. Had De La Hoya not abandoned his jab he may have won the fight. A guy willing to stick to his jab will give Mayweather a very tough time.

PS The judge that had it 115-113 for Oscar had to be drunk.

Didn't live up to the expectations. Mayweather was a boring fighter while Oscar was pressing most of the fight not really landing any punches. It was a power hitter VS a dancer. Formula for a bomb of a fight. I believe Oscar faught the better and smarter fight and had him winning by descision 7-5.

A very close fight with Oscar certainly the aggressor.

Picking a winner is quite subjective as we all look for something different.

Mayweather has very fast hands and accurately caught DLH at times.

I couldn`t really decide who had won but I`d like to see Oscar now give it up.

Wow, they KILLED eachother. Man, if Hearns had any chin at all......

Bowe-Holyfield I was on classic yesterday. Another war. Holyfield loses title for the first time.

Mayweather is a BUM!

Postby aorgeneral » Mon May 07, 2007 7:35 am

First off no matter what Oscar did HBO commentators didnt even mention it! It was clear that they were kissing floyd's ass. Oscar blocked many of Floyd's punches, and as Oscar said If he didnt press the fight there would not have been a fight. I can see them having a rematch most probably with the same result because the pretty(arrogant) one will NEVER be a man and engage in a fight with Oscar or anyone else that has any power. Lets face it he LOST to Castillo the first time and was given a GIFT and he RAN from Zab Judah who himself has NO CHIN. Mayweather is overrated as are Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy. The Pac man is the best pound for pound fighter out there now.
