Does Def Lepard have to carry these bands

Postby squirt1 » Sun May 06, 2007 12:37 pm

Tickets go on sale for Def Lepard with Styx and Foreigner. Now,with Journey and Jeff it was pretty even billing. Styx and Foreigner are jokes at this point.I went to the DL and Journey, but this I'll pass.

Another good double header. In some cases triple header.

Intriguing in that even though Journey opened all shows last year, the thing w/ Leppard was billed as a double header and Journey were afforded status that Styx and Foreigner were not.

This year, there are no BONES made (at least in Philadelphia area radio market) the the Lepps are headling and Styx "special guest (code for "opener" as if).

Same here in Detroit. Styx is clearly the opening band.

Actually, I should split the cost of a good seat to see this show with a Def Leppard fan:) Foreigner and Styx are great in concert!!! I am getting pretty bored of Def Leppard. I left early both times I saw them with Journey last year. They sounded ok, but Journey definitely kicked their ass!!!

Def Leppard on their own can only draw about 4,000. They need help to get asses in the seats. FACT

Def Leppard are excellent live - but unforunately only play the hits from Hysteria and Pyromania.
Tickets for this go around are INSANELY overpriced. Two friends paid $450 a piece for 3rd row. I have
no interest in seeing the other 2 bands so I am not paying that kind of cash.
They have to tour with another band cuz they can't sell out alone but these 2 bands don't appear
to be a good match. Plus now its 3 sets of fans trying to get good seats instead of 2. Sucks..

Exactly... the guy who posted this thread obviously hasn't seen them or atleast not in the last few years. Their most recent line-up mops the floor with most classic bands out there, and they will completely roll over the paint by numbers set-list that DL has trod through the last few tours.

Us Journey fans love Deen's skills on the skins - those same folks should hear STYX with Todd Sucherman and then have the balls to tell me they aren't a steamroller live...

"Blue Collar Man" : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MibLt9Pwbks

"Just Be" (new Floyd-like ballad) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax43enatABs

Leppard is still the draw, but trust me when I say they will be completely outclassed and outplayed by the two support bands. Go and see for yourself. I've seen all 3 bands more times than you can count over the last 5 years...and DL is just not that hot live in recent years (with the limitations to the set-playing ability...and Joe's poor live vocals. He's carried vocally by Phil, Viv, & Sav. A week or so into the tour, he fries his voice just as he's done for the past 20 some years. He's always sounded good on record, but he's a hack live...sad but true.)

Once again, go see this tour- then come back and debate your thoughts.
"All this machinery
Making modern music
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted
Its really just a question
Of your honesty..."

Styx is a GREAT live act. Def Leppard bored me, not to mention they don't play until someone presses play. Haven't seen Foreigner since Lou Graham was there and they were never that exciting live to me. Styx, on the other hand, has tons of energy and puts on a great show.

NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

BON JOVI definitely. Rent their last live dvd. Pretty blatant especially in Living on a Prayer.

Dude, I think it's the other way around! Say what you will about Gowan, but STYX has really hit their stride as a live band in the past few years. And Foreigner with Kelly Hanson, Jeff Pilson AND Jason fucking Bonham? Sign me up!

Carry these bands? Dude, I don't know about that! I am not a big Styx fan, but I saw them when they were touring with Journey and REO, and Styx was amazingly good live. I hate to admit it, but they had a better vibe, better sound, and better show than Journey did that night. That was a big surprise for me. Of course Neal was on fire as usual. I won't comment on the whole Leppard thing.

There's a reason Journey was the third best band on a night of three.

Styx is good live, but until they change up the setlist, I probably won't see 'em. I've seen 'em plenty over the years. Since they also purposefully avoid doing some DDY tunes, there is also less balance in the set.

The one Shaw Blades show I saw was a better show than any Styx show I've seen in the past few years. Tommy has fun with Styx, but there was a marked difference in the SB show in his attitude.
