Yeah, I'm aware of that...I still submit, however, that the 'ex' in their relationship was enough to destroy any hope for musical longetivity...It's an absolutely disastrous dynamic to be in a band with someone you are *or* were fucking...it only leads to one thing. There isn't a single example of a band that actually stayed intact with that dynamic. Fleetwood Mac, Heart, Ev, it doesn't matter....

ABBA, they all swapped and stayed together. I see your point though.

Except the relationship problems within ABBA did change the mood of the band (as is clear from the Winner Takes It All song and video in 1980) and eventually destroyed it....

Okay, I think that this could happen in any type of business too, I've seen it in the military and of course look at the current situation with NASA. :?

Strangegrey shut -up, Abba is a good band.
ABBA was a Swedish pop music group active from 1972 until 1982, and the most successful to come out of Scandinavia. The quartet topped charts worldwide from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. They remain a fixture of radio playlists and continue to sell albums. The group has reportedly sold more than 370 million records, making them the sixth best-selling act after Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, and Michael Jackson. :D :D

Milli Vanilli won a grammy....proof positive that record sales dont always equal talent. ABBA is a musical abortion....period. They suck, they always have...and just because the judgement of a large number of people is impaired, it doesn't make it good.

If that were the case, there would be no explaining how some really bad people get elected to office....or how sanjaya made it as far as he did in the american drivel finals.

Popularity != Talent
Abba != good

Weak argument, ABBA wasn't part of the modern day "make believe bands" they are from the old days when you had to have talent to break into the music world and actually sell records, now people are made in studios like AI and Brooke Hogan, etc. Vanilli sounded good because there was talent behind the microphone, it just wasn't those guys. Anyway, perceptions is what makes the world go 'round and lots of people hate Journey too. p.s. the official ABBA website has 125,000 members, have their own museum, over 370 million copies have sold world-over, there is a long running Broadway show that features ONLY their music, fact.

Abba was HUUUUUGE when I lived in Europe. They had some duds, but songs like "Fernando", "Super Trouper", "The Winner Takes It All", "Happy New Year", and "The Visitors" will stand the test of time. They wrote some fantastic pop songs, with memorable hooks, fantastic harmonies, and good musicianship.

Anyway, I think Evanesence will devolve into the Amy Lee Band with these developments. It's sad, because that first LP blew me away. I figured they'd be around for a long time.

I have to team up with Steveforever & 7...You can't be serious.ABBA was amazing AND huge.

I've posted this before and it's one proof that ABBA really meant something musically.Ritchie Blackmore said that the only things he listened to were ABBA and some classical music.
He said ABBA was pure melody,it was inspiring him....Just sayin'... :)

Still my favorite Evanescense song. Her and Paul McCoy should have sang more songs, I like their voices together.

Evanescence has the best videos!

Has anybody ever heard the song "You"? It brings me to tears every time i listen to it! "You know you're all that I live for. You know I'd die just to hold you, be with you!" Such beautiful lyrics!

Oh, GIVE me a break. Do you actually believe in the smelly brown viscous fluid that has risen to just under your neck line?? Crap masquerading as talant existed LONG before what your 80's concept of 'Make Believe Bands' is. Milli Vanilli just happens to be the representative 80s version of shit that sold records but was none-the-less, shit. There are COUNTLESS numbers of bullshit manufactured groups from the mid 70s, early 60s and even dipping into the late 50s. Sorry, hate to break it to you. ABBA was shit. Pure and simple! If you think this sorta thing only started in the 80s...and bands prior actually had to work hard prior, then please ask the person doing your typing, to stop and return to the cave (because I find it hard to believe you've figured out how to turn on a computer all by yourself! :roll: ) I need to call Geico and tell them they've got it all wrong...."So easy, SteveForever can do it!" :roll: :roll:

Shania,

you hurt your argument on two counts...first "huge" is NOT and NEVER shall be a reason why a musical act is considered good. Will you have good acts that are popular? Yes, fine...I'll give you that. But you will never have acts that are good BECAUSE they are popular. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Abba was shite...plain and simple. Just because they sold alot of records, it doesn't legitimize them.....Hell, George Bush was re-elected in 2004 by a greater number of voters than any prior american president.....tell me how that one's working out? eh? Popularity doesn't mean goodness.

As for Richie Blackmore, that's like quoting Elton John when he says a woman is hot. :roll: Have you actually seen what Richie Blackmore has become as of late? The guy is a freak show. http://www.blackmoresnight.com/index2.htm The guy left behind a legacy of great music in the 70s and early 80s to record medieval circus music. The only place you can see him perform these days is at your local Medieval Times....

What do you mean bands like this? Bands of this type of music or bands with hot female lead singers?

The song was better BEFORE they added Paul's vocals IMO...

This is a joke right? I would put anything by Right Said Fred, Milli Vanilli, Leif Garrett and/or Erasure up against anything off of VD, er...VH3. VH3 is just about the worst piece of shit recorded....no comparision...but thanks for the laugh! ;)

Sorry folks, I think ABBA's a musical abortion. If the 70s gave birth to some great music (and it did) Abba is the afterbirth....Horrible band with simply zero talent...ZERO talent.
