Meet you there, bro. I stubbed my toe. Didn't bleed. But, it sure hurts!

At least you will have TWO hands to drive with! Safety first!

Can't drive with one hand now can we?

Fuck, on road trips in college at Washington state, I would drive to road football games with 3 other guys, and we would all pound beers enroute. We would piss in the bottles and fire em out the window at 60 mph. Hell, I even pleasured myself on a few long lonely drives from Spokane to LA. One hand driving is a necessity for a dude...unless it's Ed.

I had this happen 3-4 times playing baseball in the 6-7-8 th grade. I think they called it a stoved finger. It hurt like a sprained ankle. I used a popsicle stick and adhesive until my dad fashioned a more rounded piece of aluminum to use with the adhesive. It was always on my gloved left hand. I never got out of homework because I was right handed. It goes away in a few days but it is annoying !

Seriously Ed, if you miss baseball for this, I will have lost all respect for you.

Take a few rubber bands and put one on the upper part and one on the lower part...band the finger to the middle finger...use the middle finger as a splint. You will retain some sort of dexterity.

Man the doctor went off about that. No way to swing a bat. I have never missed a game due to injury. Possibility of the hand being permanently deformed if I tried. Totally thought about just taping it up and playing. The riot act was read to me about attempting it.

Dude, doctors are idiots. They are doctors because they can't play sports. They don't have the heart to play sports, thus they don't have the passion. They would rather read stupid shit about penile erection problems rather than go out and splatter some unsuspecting asshole on the football field. I am proud to say I NEVER went on the DL. Play through anything. Get through the game, then load up up on Jack Daniels and Vicodins. I would never forgive myself if I missed a game.

I would have to disagree here depending on the hand affected.
If it's the poon ditch hand fuck you Dean he needs to heal, otherwise
Mrs AR may have to find a whole new fit and that just ain't right!

my splint went all the way past my wrist. ring finger right hand.

my finger is straight but my knuckle is big. I think the injury was different than yours though cuz my finger was bent in the splint, come to think of it.

hang in there.

Ed,

I am telling you and everyone here that mallet finger is a total pain in the ass diagnosis. I treat these injuries all the time and you will recover quicker from a hip replacement and/or wrist fracture then you will from this. It is an injury to the tendinous insertion of the extensor digitorum at its terminal end. It needs to be kept into extension or even hyperextension to allow the tendon to re-attach. This takes approximately of 8-10 weeks of continuous extension splinting. You even have to keep the finger up into extension when re-applying the splint should you wash your hand/fingers. If you can make it to where you can bend the finger into approximately 10-15 degrees of extension and still achieve full extension only then can they decrease time spent in the splint. If not, back into the splint until you can. If you avulsed the tendon, then you will probably head for surgery to have a pin put in it. Let's hope the joint below it doesn't get so stiff that it doesn't bend.

Believe it or not, that's why they have certified hand therapists! For jacked up fingers like Ed's

I'm going to order these so I can bend the lower joint.

Dude,

Yes, your doctor is correct in that you can have a misshapen digit for the rest of your life or completely rupture the whole damn tendon and require surgical pinning and significantly lose more mobility.

Check out the ASHT, that's why out of 100,000+ therapist in the world there are only 4,000+ in the country certified to treat hand injuries.

No offense sacred eyes, but I'm guessing players in the NHL or NFL would not be seeking "finger treatment." Those two words aside from "plunger rape" might be the two worst gayest phrases ever.

I would NEVER go to a finger doctor, unless I could score some free meds out of the doc.

Please, real athletes don't go to finger doctors.

None taken, Lula.

I was about to come back and apologize to Ed anyways. I've got my mommy hat on and I need to take it off. Men typically don't care about deformities. More wounds the better.

As long as that continues to happen, it affords me my adventures with Journey! :D

Up?
I have had the same injury and I used the quick splint. Now my finger is fine after 16 weeks. I never thought my finger would work again and it is a most frustrating injury.
Good luck,
