OT Jerry Falwell dies

Postby Wheels Of Fyre » Wed May 16, 2007 7:10 am

Falwell. Get it? Fall - well. As in "the Fall" and well...? A very subtle play and I've always wondered if Falwell was his real name or if he concocted it like some Rock star wannabe. Never had the inclination to research it.

Someone on this board noted that Janis Joplin was a waste of flesh. I don't know that I would say that about any human being but Jerry Falwell (and many other televangelists) definitely tempt me.

I can't understand how a human being in this day and age can speak by and for God and Jesus and on top of that claim that God and Jesus speaks to/through them. Talk about the definition of delusional.

If I were to make such claims my family and friends would run to the phone to call for the men in white coats with butterfly nets. Yet in this world certain people make these claims and somehow rise to power in the religious and political worlds.

The world is simply mad.

I wonder who will succeed Falwell's madness...

They die in 3's, and I think Tammy Faye is next. She is down to 65 lbs. and the docs told her they are giving up treatment for her cancer.

I wish that piece of garbage a nice trip to Hell.

What a divisive sonofabitch.

Hope the hard right is happy with his efforts. He made this country a bitter place. Get in the box you fat fuck!

Fallwell Died? Praise the Lord indeed!
That guy was one of the biggest hate mongers the US ever produced. Good riddance.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I loved comic books when I was a kid. Conan was a favorite. It actually helped me recognize my mortality. In one issue Conan asked a wizard, "Is it true that you can speak with the dead?" The wizard answered, "From the moment that we're born are we also not dying? We are all but the living dead."

We'll all be pushing up daisies soon enough. What makes me nuts is how certain people can outright abuse and exploit others all in the name of God and live such long and properous lives.

I don't agree with everything Falwell did or said but he did more behind the scenes to help people in need than anyone will ever know, including helping unwed pregnant mothers afford housing, food, diapers, etc., among other such things. Unfortunately, he will mostly be remembered for saying stupid things about teletubbies, for instance, and it's those kinds of things that I didn't agree with him on. Anyone wishing him ill will on his grave is as sorry a human being as they claimed he was in life.

Oh come on Dave. The guy got rich off of pretending to talk to God. He had to spend some of the money to help people, or his audience would disappear. In the Bible it says in so many words, "It's easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than a rich man into heaven." Did he miss that passage? Do all of these high rolling churches and televangelists miss that? I was brought up in the Church of Christ. Very meager church with a window unit for air. I do not believe in these rich churches. I don't wish anyone dead or even ill, but I'm not sorry to see them out of business.

I wouldn't want to be standing in Falwell's shoes when he stands before his maker and tries to excuse all the hate he has spewed in the name of God. Good riddance. The world has a little less hate in it today.

You missed the entire point of my post. Like I said, I don't agree with everything the guy said or did. It's a matter of fact that the guy was not as bad a guy as some here would like to think he was.

Gotta agree. I'll never understand the folks that claim to serve the Lord all the while judging their fellow brothers and sisters. And I'm pretty sure God does not ask for money to build elaborate halls and buy fancy cars... whatever.
